Hm. Maybe that’s what BeagleZ was talking about a while back. Like more as a preventative than a cure?

I really don’t feel like fermenting anything haha, but maybe I’ll start doing some kind of shit like that. I’ve actually got bokashi bran in my soil mix right now (bought it from BAS, damn sure didn’t make it myself haha). I can’t remember when I added it to my soil mix, but it was at least two grows-ago. I wonder if it takes a while to break down to start being effective.

Or whatever haha. I dunno.

Did you ever listen to the Residents or are they a little too weird even for you? This song may be a little much for a shroom trip but this performance has always stuck with me since I first saw it.

Edit: Still don’t know how to link the video and not the link itself…

Yeah, I’ve listened to them, like back when I was 14 haha, mostly because I knew Les Claypool was a big fan of theirs. And I was a big fan of Primus, so… Never really got into them, but, uh

that’s not why haha. I love weird shit. But it still has to be good. Or evoke some sort of emotional response in me, no matter what it is. The Residents always struck me as a sorta “weird for the sake of being weird” type of thing; it didn’t seem to be coming from a “genuine place of weirdness” haha. I dunno if that makes sense.

They always seemed more performative to me, as opposed to somebody like Mike Patton or Eugene Chadbourne or Thelonious Monk or whoever, who I always figured would be doing their thing no matter what, in their bedroom or basement or wherever, even if nobody was listening.

Edit: btw, @ElGalloBlanco if you can find Eugene Chadbourne’s album I’ve Been Everywhere, scoop it up immediately and give it a listen. It’s that sorta avant- jazz/country shit, not too sure I’ve ever heard anything like him. But I listened to that album for the first time when I was 15 and it BLEW MY FUCKING MIND haha. The answering machine recordings interspersed between the songs are worth the price of admission alone haha, never mind the songs. “You Still Live With Mom and Dad” is still one of my all-time favorite tracks.

I picked up a couple live recordings of his at the independent record store in Tampa when I was a kid; my mom really dug them and she had great taste in music, so…. haha.

Damn dude, listening to the Residents when you were 14 haha, that’s hardcore. Their live stuff and show is definitely performative but I think their music and riffs definitely come from a different place. I like Les Claypool quite a bit myself, he does some covers of King Crimson as well, I like their live stuff too (although definitely not considered weird), Three of a Perfect Pair, live in Japan is a performance I enjoy a lot. Also, Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade are touring this summer so look into it if it is still of interest to you, I will be going to the show in SLO.

Sorry to get on the topic of music but recently I have been trying to get into different at least new to me music and seeing what’s out there and it also makes me think back on the music I used to listen to or enjoy more or less throughout life. I’ll look into Eugene and see what he is all about and any other rock music you may recommend haha?

Really? It’s hardcore? I dunno, I just would always read interviews with musicians I liked in, like, Rolling Stone and, uh, Guitar Player Magazine haha (I don’t think that’s actually a real thing, but I read a lot of music stuff when I was a kid is my point; Drum Player, Bass Guitar Magazine haha, whatever…)(it’s the curse of being a multi-instrumentalist when you’re 13-years-old) and wherever. Anything I could get my hands on, really. And you’d read interviews with musicians you liked and they’d mention their influences, so you’d check them out, too.

I remember when I was like twelve, the first time I saw a picture of Cliff Burton wearing a Misfits t-shirt onstage and thinking,”Whoah! He’s wearing a Misfits t-shirt…” (I was way into the Misfits before I ever started listening to Metallica) and then realizing that, yeah, of course, musicians like other musicians haha. That’s why they play music. Duh!!! Haha. Music’s what got them into music.

Anyway, maybe I’ll give the Residents another listen. I honestly haven’t listened to them since I was a teenager.

Yeah, I remember Les mentioning that he really loved King Crimson in interviews, too; I checked them out when I was a kid and was like,”Huh… How interesting… This dude who I really dig likes King Crimson and The Residents. And they both suck…” haha! I’ll never, ever be like,”Yo! Let’s crank some King Crimson!” haha. But maybe I’ll revisit their shit, too.

Don’t apologize for that, dude! Are you serious??? “Sorry for talking about music,”??? Nah, bro. We can talk about music allllllllllllllll day long. I fucking love music. It’s the only thing that keeps me going… haha.

How much time do you have…? Haha.

Can’t really remember to be honest hahaa, I think the last thing I suggested was using LABs for PM.
But once words like actinomyces and cyanide come out my eyes glaze over, beyond my pay grade
I just mix shit with sugar lol

Nahhhh, you mentioned something about it. I remember. And if I actually remember something, it for sure happened haha. Something about labs and, uh… something haha.

Honestly, my eyes start glazing over at “LABS.”; once cyanide gets mentioned, my eyes cease to exist at all haha. I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure cyanide is, like, something I don’t wanna be around at all… ever haha.

This reminds me of like a mellow Gwar lol
That was some weird shit

Spinosad : it’s even too toxic for minitiger. Joking…

I knew a farmer that used to spray diluted raw milk on squash and pumpkins in order to prevent or control PM. Googling it seems like it’s a pretty common organic remedy, no idea how effective it is though. Raw milk contains lactic acid bacteria strains though, wonder if that has anything to do with its use.

I remember years ago seeing some weird looking ladybugs on a cucumber plant with a mild PM infection. Looked it up when I saw it and it turns out it was a mycophagous ladybug that feeds on mildews. Kind of cool to see even if it won’t fully eradicate a PM infection.

I would say for sure. It’s the favorite food of lactobacillus. Feed them and they will come hahaa

Haha, yeah, I was thinking about that when I was like,”If it kills bees and birds, don’t use it!” Meanwhile, every day I drink enough to kill an entire flock of birds…

I’ve read about that, too. Never really considered it because PM hasn’t ever been an issue with me until this grow. Plus, milk’s gross haha.

And I say “issue for this grow,” but the PM’s gone now. I think it was because those two Pura Vida f2’s were just soooooo bushy down near the bottom and I was being sloppy when I watered, getting water all over the leaves on the lower portion of those two plants. I defoliated and they seem fine now, so… I think I will maybe just defoliate and hack off like a decent portion of the lowers before I flip every time now moving forward. And I actually did do that for every plant BUT the PV’s this grow, but I’m not sure I did it enough.

“I remember the first time I defoliated…” haha. It really did kind of feel like,”Shit, man, is this too much? Not enough? I dunno what I’m doing!” haha…

Yeah, I’m gonna look into this a little more. Because you can just water it in, right? You don’t have to foliar with it?

Anyway, I didn’t take pics last night. Didn’t even water. Around 7pm, I got up off the couch and took my clothes off and passed the FUCK out in bed, woke up at 5am and was like,”What happened?” Apparently I slept through the alarm I always set for when the lights turn on at 8:10pm; my girl said she tried to wake me up but I didn’t react at all. I guess I drank too much yesterday. Kinda weird, too, because I took our dog for a walk at like 6 and was fine. I dunno what happened.

Woke up this morning craving an apple and some almonds, so I was just hanging out in the kitchen, eating those, and then realized I wasn’t seeing the lights leaking out through the vents in the grow room. Opened the door and the tents were still shut and only the two humidifiers that I leave on during lights-off were running; the other three humidifiers were off, the window that I always open to keep temps at an acceptable level was shut…. What a mess haha.

Plus-side, temps were fine, so I may just keep the tents shut from now on in the wintertime. Humidity levels were looooooooow, though, 22%. Not good.

Anyway, I’m gonna water and take pics tonight. And try not to drink so much today… haha.

Haha, I did see Gwar once live just cause I felt like I had to, pretty raunchy stuff haha, I was so surprised to see so many people wanting to be showered with fake blood haha. They made fun of George Bush and brought him on stage and that was funny but they also brought out Lacey Peterson and I was like, that’s just fucked. Those were some crazy guys, saw a documentary on them once and it was really interesting to see what it took to put on all of those shows. It was definitely a labor of love for them.

When I was 14, I was listening to Nirvana, STP, Primus, Soundgarden, Rage, Alice and Chains, basically, mostly grunge music haha. I’m sure if I heard either the Residents or King Crimson I would be like what the hell is this shit, but I am no musical savant either haha.

Dude, Robert Fripp (guitar) and Bill Bruford (drums) from King Crimson are some crazy good musicians, but hey, enough of all this 80’s shit haha, I was born in the early 80’s and never listened to any of this stuff until adulthood (although I haven’t listened to either band much for the last number of years either).

I have time for whatever you feel like typing, just throw some band names out there and I’ll check them out.

Ohhhhh, is that who BeagleZ was talking about? I read,”Qwar,” and was like,”Who the fuck is Qwar?” haha.

I get that whole,”You gotta see Gwar at least once!” thing, though. That’s why I saw them once, too haha. Don’t love their music, but I mean… Come on. It’s Gwar! Haha.

Yeah, I love that. That’s actually what I was thinking about when I was talking about Eugene Chadbourne’s I’ve Been Everywhere album yesterday. It’s such a teardown of that whole Reagan-era bullshit. It’s not overt, you kinda have to read between the lines, but it was perfect for it’s time. And it’s still a good album.

Eh, I dunno. Maybe they were just critiquing the whole “media sensationalism” of that story. Or whatever.

I actually had to Google who Laci Peterson was just now haha. I kind of remember that whole thing, but not really (although I think my girl and I watched something about that on tv a while back; we got really into “true crime” shit during the COVID quarantining thing). If I was at that show, it probably woulda gone over my head haha. I woulda needed to turn to whoever was next to me and been like,”Who’s Laci Peterson?”

Yeah, for sure. Me, too. I listened to all kinds of stuff. Those were pretty popular bands, but I also sought out lesser-known stuff, too. Shit that wasn’t getting played on the radio.

Although I will say that I missed out on the whole “Nirvana craze,” just because I was in this place for, uh, “bad kids” when Nevermind broke. We weren’t allowed to listen to (or even talk about) music and stuff. When I finally got out, I listened to Nevermind and was like,”I don’t get it. This sounds just like the Pixies…” And a thousand other bands I was listening to before I went to that “crazy kids” place haha. Like a combination of The Melvins (who I still love) and The Pixies. I LOVE Bleach, but Nevermind sounds way too “glossy” and over-produced. It’s too “shiny.” Shine’s fine for, like, Dre-produced albums, The Chronic, whatever, but it’s not okay for rock ‘n’ roll haha.

STP suck, btw haha. I’ve always despised them. Although I did like Scott Weiland’s style after they disbanded haha.

Badmotorfinger is a fucking awesome album, I actually occasionally listen to that one, still, too. “Jesus Christ Pose”? Fuck yes haha. That song kicks ass.

Yeah, they’re good musicians. But there’s a big difference between being good musicians and being good songwriters. There’s a big difference between “proficiency” and “artistry.” Or there is in my mind, anyway.

I feel like any asshole can play an instrument well if they practice enough. But that doesn’t mean they’ll ever be able to write a good song. I’ve known a BUNCH of people who can play, but they can’t write good songs. Just because you can sit down and play The Goldberg Variations, that doesn’t mean you’re an artist.

I mean, I feel a little overwhelmed by this haha.

We haven’t really been listening to any new music lately. Or rather, I haven’t heard anything new that’s blown my mind. I tried to get into Japanese Breakfast for a minute, that chick’s pretty good, but after listening to it for a day or two, I was just like,”Yeah, I don’t understand the hype…” I’ve tried to get into a lot of stuff, but I’ve mostly just been listening to shit from like ten or twenty or thirty years ago. Or longer, even.

That album Ode To Sunshine by Delta Spirit is really good, been listening to that one a lot lately, you might like that one. I love it.

The Chico Hamilton Quintet’s always getting a lot of play over here. That’s some old-ass shit, but they’re good. Not “rock music,” though, so I dunno if you’ll dig that haha.

Rufus Wainwright’s first album gets a lot of play over here, too, but again, that’s not exactly “rock and roll,” (and it’s not new, either), so I dunno if you’ll like that one. I love it, though. That song “Sally Ann” was what I would always sing in my head at, like, 530am when I would walk over the Burnside Bridge in Portland after we would be forced to leave the homeless shelter on Grand in Portland.

Shit… I’m thinking, I’m thinking… haha. I was listening to Meantime by Helmet on repeat yesterday, but I’m sure you’ve heard that one haha.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth gets played a lot here, but again, that’s old. Great album, though.

I dunno, man haha. You’ll have to be more specific. Honestly, I’ve been listening to a lot of sorta “classic rock” lately, like Sticky Fingers and shit, just because that’s actually kinda “new” to me. I never listened to shit like that when I was a kid, never appreciated it, just because I was all “punk” and “hip hop” and like,”Fuck those old motherfuckers!!!” haha.

But yeah, I’m sure I’ll think of some other stuff. I’ll let you know when I do haha.

What’ve you been listening to?

I saw the lead singer of The Damned pee directly into a fan’s mouth from the stage one time when I was like 13.

People are weird… haha. Who knows why they’re into the things they’re into… But we don’t judge… haha.

Yeah, being from California, it was a pretty big story at the time. I just googled it too and was surprised that happened in 2002, I thought it was more in the mid 90’s… Anyway, I think I saw Gwar in 2003 or 2004, can’t quite remember? But yeah, I was happy they were bagging on George W.

That’s definitely true enough, although many shitty bands somehow get a break and can make a career of it while also many great bands or musicians never get the same chance. But hey, I guess that goes for a lot of things.

Yeah, didn’t mean necessarily anything new as in age, but mostly new to me. Don’t get overwhelmed and I appreciate your insight, I’ll check out some of those out for sure, Sonic Youth I am familiar with but I’ll have to look into that album again.

That’s just fucking disgusting haha!

For sure. I moved here in 2001 and had a LOT of shit going on at the time (living with a strung-out escort, had my own crack thing going on, all kinds of shit), so it doesn’t surprise me that I was totally oblivious to that story haha.

But even if none of that was going on, I’m not sure I would’ve paid attention to it. I don’t typically get wrapped up in stuff like that. If I don’t actually know the person who was murdered, I don’t really care about it haha…

Right, but I don’t know what you have or haven’t listened to haha.

It was definitely pretty wild to see when I was just a youngster, going to shows for the first time. For sure one of the things that made me realize,”Fuck, man, there’s all kinds of shit that I don’t know about…” haha.

Is this real? I’m gonna sign that petition.

Are you talking about Gwar or Qwar? You keep typing Qwar, which, I don’t know that band.

I do miss those Marshall stacks, though… The BC Rich guitars, not so much haha. I always thought those were kinda dumb…

I was actually thinking out loud to my girl a while back about,”Maybe I’m gonna buy a stack and a Les Paul…” and she didn’t seem too receptive to the idea haha. We’ve got a piano and a drum kit over here already, though. Might as well add 100 Watts of Power to the mix… haha.

I just wonder if a Marshall stack might affect my grow light situation…
