I do the sweat and dry cure myself. I was saying for a first timer it is far better to jar a little dry than wet.
Has anyone ever done a Malawi Cob cure with a Bodhi strain?
working on some time bender right now doing just that!
Do chem crosses often go past 70 days? I donāt have much experience with themā¦ but I did grow an Old time Moonshine x Ultimate Chem that took a really long timeā¦ that was an old Elite Genetics crossā¦ my experiences with Snowdawg were that they finished around 70 Daysā¦ but you donāt see many Snowdawg crosses anymore. I really liked that oneā¦ besides the fact that it was, according to an oldtimer from Oregon named Pigfarmerā¦ āa Powdery Mildew loving whore.ā lol
Heck Yeah! I have a pack of time bender. Let me know how it works out.
Will do! I have to dry them down slowly per tangwena. So itāll be one month drying this Sunday. May take a small sample and let you know. But he recommends waiting at least 3 months for the full effect
Yeah, for example GMO (chem x cookies) and its progeny can be late finishers, at or after 70.
I agree it could have gone longer too @minitiger. Bodhi says 56-63 though I know these suggested flowering durations are often exceeded.
Vegged for 5 weeks.
I need more experience, but main concern with flowering too long was creating an environment of decreasing THC/increasing CBN production. I need to get more comfortable with letting the plants go longer.
Intuitively I feel like following @CrunchBerries approach to curing would have headed off any crispiness I might be dealing withā¦
Next B gear to be tried out will be 4Play (Chem 4 x Wookie)
For sure. I always tack on an extra 7-28 days to the breederās suggested āfinishing time,ā depending on the cross. If itās something like that Hashplant 1 you grew, I add a week; if itās some sorta āSativaā-dominant, Haze-type thing, I always add 2-4 weeks haha. Iāve been having to chop all the plants from my last few grows a week or two early because I keep getting aphids and thrips right near the end of it. The current one is the first one in like a year-and-a-half that I havenāt gotten pests, super-stoked I can just take my sweet time letting everything finish properly.
Thatād probably happen only if the pistils have been all withered and red/brown/whatever color for a few weeks, if not longer. It wonāt happen if the pistils are still white, though. Honestly, Iād rather have my plants grow for a week too long than a week too short.
Either way, though, Iād definitely wait until at least half (if not more) of the pistils have withered.
I appreciate sharing your perspective on finishing time @minitiger. Do you also follow change in trichome color as a way to discern finishing time?
Ummmm, I dunno. I think the only Chem crosses Iāve grown were Lucky Dogās (aka SkunkVA) Diesel Therapy (ECSD x 91Chem bxsomething haha) and Chem Fuego (( Sour Diesel x Headband) x 91 Chem bxwhatever), but both of those used a Chem as the male portion of the hybrid. I chopped both of those crosses earlier than I wanted to, I think around day 62/63, on account of the aforementioned aphids. I woulda let them go longer if it werenāt for them.
Every Appalachia cross Iāve grown has gone longer than 70 days, though. I realize thatās not straight Chem, but itās in there. And considering Green Crack is supposed to be super-fast, Iād imagine itās the Chem in the Appy male (plus the females it was crossed with) that made them take ten+ weeks.
Hahaā¦ Dude, Iāve tried every conceivable method of trying to get a good, close look at trichs and nothingās worked. Iāve used my 30x loupe, one of those macro lens things that you attach to your phone and even a big-ass magnifying glass and none of them helped me see, like, clear or cloudy or amber or anything. The trichs always just look silvery and shiny to me. I even busted out my loupe for the current grow, been sitting on the table in the room for like ten days, but I havenāt actually scoped anything yet. I figure, you know, if it didnāt work the first 25 times I used it, it probably isnāt gonna all of a sudden start working now haha.
My experience as well. The scope manufacturer recommends taking a sample and viewing it statically under it but I brought the scope to the plant which is some really tough viewing when trying to keep it focused for even a few seconds.
I bought my first loupe about 3 days ago, and the guy at the hydro shop said 30 is basically a glorified magnifying glass, and that 60 is better for checking trichome colouration.
Iāve been messing around with it the last couple days, and Iād agreeā¦I can clearly see trichome heads at 60x but just that they are trichomes at 30x (it has both)
Way easier with a closeup photo guys.
If anyone is interested I am following a benefit auction (someone I am familiar with and know is legit) on IG,
Sour Diesel Chaco Cut x 88g13hp
bid is $110 right now
Send me a message if you want the IG, but please be sincere if bidding as it is for a good cause and donāt need any non payers.
Maybe Iāll go buy a 60x here pretty soon. Iād actually read that 60x was, like, too magnified, which is why I bought the 30x maybe eight years ago.
Honestly, I seem to be doing okay just going by feel haha, observing the plant, noticing when they stop drinking so much water etc etc. It would be nice to get some sort of up-close visual clue re: the trichomes, though haha.
Youāll notice a few posts up that I mentioned the macro lens that I bought and found useless. Itās the same one that other OG members have used for really, really good macro shots; it does not, however, work on either my iPhone or my girlās (hers is a newer version).
Little 30x microscope does the job, best with LED light. $10 to $20.
Listen to the Tom Hill interview on The Pot Cast. He talks about divergent pairings for breeding, and how their variations lead to progeny with more extreme expressions.
Extreme expressions may lead to a standout plant that sits well above the rest. It usually just takes big numbers to find these individuals because diversity brings in bad feral traits that we donāt want in our lines.
In contrast, Bx work seems to lead to stability with a reduction in resin quality. Just look at Karmaās Sour Bx workā¦ Thousands of packs sold, yet nobody has managed to find the āreal sourā.
With that saidā¦ I donāt think we will ever see a fresh male from Bodhi as a main-line release. We will probably get Runtz x 88g13hp in 2030
Chems will go 9-12 weeks. They are run best when vegged really well, then allowed to go through significant wet/dry cycles. Failure to allow them a complete generative drydown will result in boofy Chem with no terps.
@3rd_i you did an awesome job with that Chem 1 x HP. Looks like a beefed up healthier Chem cut. Looks like you allowed her to dry out real good based on the lower leaves yellowing.
