Gorgeous man. That place is on my bucket list for sure. I’ve bee infatuated with Montana since I was young. I’m so glad you got to go.
Howdy, can I ask a question: if I signed up as a lvl 2 Member at slot 41, would I then send 10$ to MomOnTheRun for 8$tracked +2$, along with my address for receipt sometime in October? Or am I missing something? I just want to ask before signing up. Thanks so much.
Facts man Facts!
So many times ive noticed the best looking, tightest buds wernt necessarily the winners after being cured and smoked. Its that perfect InstaGram Flower shot bud. Gotta look good for the camera. I had this “Stupid Stick” flower when i was young. Had that brown mex-brick look to it. Didnt look anything special.but oh man! Scorched ya! Messed you up. Just didnt look anything special.
Ive seen it quite a few times since then. I still play faves amongst my seed ladies but the truth is in the smoke and effect. High Times did that to us so may years ago, what the ideal bud looks like.
Knobby ol fox-tail Haze nuggs are the best.
Just wanted to second that. Often the early leader in flowering may not be the desirable pheno when dried and smoked.
cheers
OK friends, here’s the update on the seed run. I got home and harvested the plants tonight. Day 73F. They’re done done. Here’s a little before and after.
First the tent when we left, day 66F at 5am, and tonight:
You can see there was quite a bit of yellowing and pheno #s 4 and 7 on the right dried out the most. I have to say tho, I’m pretty pleased by their progress for almost 8 days alone. They’re truly beautiful flowers. And doing their life’s purpose by paying it forward with new life!!
I cleaned them up before harvesting; pulled most of the big fan leaves.
I normally dry trim, but in seed runs, the more leaf you can remove up front the less PITA it is shucking and sorting. It’s still a ton of work tho doing all that by hand. A labor of love.
Pheno #1 tonight before and after cleanup:
Pheno #2 before and after cleanup:
Pheno #4 before and after cleanup:
Pheno #7 before and after cleanup:
Smells in the tent were honey, sweet cream, melons, light citrus blossom, and a good representation of the original herbal essences shampoo “with henna for highlights” that an ex used to use. All with that funky kushy undercurrent of dank.
Here they are chopped and hung and the tent reset to veg/reveg mode for some clones and scraggly twice-revegged moms. Only half the tent is lit to keep the temps down.
I’ll put them in paper bags by pheno as soon as the leaves start to crisp up.
@oleskool830 @Badger a good time was had by all. We had 2 reasonably light days of smoke before it really settled in thick up in MT and WY. Still a fun trip, but man am I getting tired of smelling campfire all day and night. The whole West is on I feel for all the folks affected by it. First COVID now this. Oof. Hope they can get it under control soon.
Man I don’t have a clue about any of that stuff. It seems like there’s some people in the bottom of the original post that should be able to help you, but I think that contact info block of names got corrupted by bad edits.
@LemonadeJoe or @MomOnTheRun would you mind helping out this kind friend, and also please take a look at the bottom of post #1 and fix that to the correct contact names? I’d hate to have people PM’ing their addresses to regular users… that doesn’t seem safe.
You sure got that right. If all peeps are looking for are bag appeal and yield and smell, sure, judge a book by its cover. But if kind readers of this thread care at all about the actual end product, don’t try to impress us by posting about finding keepers halfway through flower. You can’t know and neither can we. The worst is when supposed “breeders” do that. lol
Oh yeah, I forgot to post pics of the clones. Here’s the before
and after we got back:
They’re plum crazy. Well all but that one straggler who’s still figuring it out.
Here’s some budshots from tonight. Pheno numbers are in the file names. They’d normally be harvested between days 56-63 for most phenos. I’m guessing not many will go past week 9 from flip.
Yep, fairly ragged from running long and drying out, but get a load of that solid Kush structure. I could see some pretty decent yields coming from these.
I still haven’t disturbed a bud yet to check seed progress, but I’ll know in a week or so how the pollination turned out.
I love the way you think nube don’t judge a flower before you have tried it some of the best things are the small scraggly looking plants but have the best effects. I think there’s alot of breeders out there that are just making pretty plants with nothing special to the effects. Really looking forward to the Good Medicine and Cheech Wizard runs I think there’s some gold to be found in those lines. Keep up the good work your an inspiration to me and I can’t thank you enough for all your doing.
Great job as always @nube. You do such a great job at documenting your runs. These F2 will be special indeed. I especially cant wait to see the clones so i hope you will at least show us the finished flowers on those. FInally, I sure do hope everyone who signed up for these finds the time to grow them out and document them, shiiit even F3 them. Keep this love train moving You rock Nube
Absolutely beautiful glad they turned out great
@nube You are so spot on regarding bud/bag appeal. Like you said, I’ve seen weed that didn’t look smokable knocks your socks off while some beautiful buds are meh. It’s very easy to get caught up in the seed company pics and see the frost and get all excited. But the proof is in the pudding.
Those are soooo good lookin’. The truth is in the smoke of a cured bud. That’s a chore I will save to do for myself soon!
All Love…
The bear is lookin for terps, man!
Very true. I love sativas, but they don’t win bag appeal contests. But like anything that’s subjective, you shouldn’t let someone else tell you what is or isn’t aesthetic. I often find the natural appearance of classic and less hybridized strains to be more “appealing”.
I’m with you bruv!
Damn @nube, you knocked it out of the park on this one. Nice turnout for seeded bud, absolutely gorgeous bud.
I didn’t know where to start with this post, but your trip to Mo made me wanna take off for the wilderness…lol
Also to mention, you might be a pioneer in this game. Stay true brotha
Wow, that lake is like something out of a dream. It looks like you are truly living life to its fullest.
It’s that Guava-Tangie. That is funny. AGNB does a great job as a straight man and The Terpmeister takes it from there.
Great pics @nube ! Looks like yall had a nice time, glad it went ok for you. The smoke has been crazy up here in the mountains. Of course, I live only 20-30 miles from the Grizzly Creek fire. Went to costco in Gypsum the day before yesterday and it was still raining huge ashes on us in the parking lot. Doesnt seem as bad today, but man it was real bad here last week.
Yeah man, that’s been a big complaint for many years. That’s why I don’t go for hype strains. I think a lot of people smoke so much that they can’t even tell effects or potency from one strain to the next, so they only want looks & terps. I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum. Those are nice to haves but I mostly care about potency & effects as long as it’s remotely decent plants/harvest. That’s the thing I never understood about any cookies strain - it’s terrible yields, underwhelming terps & flavor, and the effects are boring while lacking in potency. I guess it’s like the mcdonalds of weed.
Let’s hope they’re decent and plentiful. People can make their minds up about them, but I hope they keep paying it forward!
That’s why I don’t get excited by the super zoomed, flash on, overexposed, night shot bud porn. Most of those cookies crosses just don’t do it for me and never have. But sex sells, as does hype. We have a racist sexist troll “billionaire” who’s gone bankrupt 6 times for a president, so I guess you could say most people are sheep. This is also why I appreciate bodhi’s complete lack of marketing and hype. Wishing him and mrs. b the best during these troubling times!
Haha man we saw a black bear up in Montana about a half mile away across the valley, and a mountain lion hunting deer in a field about 150 yards away. Just got pics today of a bear where we stayed! Obviously attracted to the terps in my bag, right? @Kingmambo lol
I’m with you. The nubile hairless leafless look of today’s hype strains really doesn’t do it for me either. I don’t find hybridization to necessarily be the problem; rather, the selection direction ain’t my predilection.
Go, man! Go! Getting out in nature is good for the soul. Much like rubbing your feet on a dog. And I’m just a newbie, there’s nothing special about me or what I do at all. All credit to bodhi and Mojorising.
Just important for me to spend as much time in nature as possible. We often forget we come from nature, despite our best efforts to make everything as unnatural as possible in this world. I hope COVID shows us that we’ve been going in the wrong direction. Like picking weeds in your driveway instead of spraying poison. How fucking hard is it to just pull weeds every few weeks? We gotta get away from the screens and get back to doing stuff together as a family outside, with and for other people. I guess socially distanced for awhile still, but that doesn’t prevent us from volunteering in community gardens, for parks and trails services, etc.
Oh yeah? Whereabouts? MT or WY? Don’t be too specific.
Ashes been falling here for a few weeks too. Stay safe, man!
About the grow, I plucked and labeled a single lower bud from each of the plants and put it in a small tupperware on top of the light fixture to dry and sample separately. You can see it in the hanging harvest pic. Anyway, ripe seeds are starting to fall out of them even though they ain’t dry, so that’s a good sign. The seeds aren’t huge, but the size of a seed is 100% irrelevant to its potential. Looking forward to hearing about germ rates from some people I sent early preflower F2 to before going on our trip.
Couple hours outside of the west gate.
