CaptainRon's Imaginarium: Off-grid, indoor growing, geothermal greenhouse build, a place to store my thoughts

Cant wait see the amnesia finish, soma sacred seeds was like the bodhi seeds of my generation. Cool dude unique seeds. I would love some buddhas sister or reclining buddah seeds from him. Think im going to treat myself for christmas with a good repro of soma strains. Hows that haze smelling?

Alrighty guys,
day 52 and DLA 1 & 4 are getting flushed. Also because I over fed them with a ferment I made from white clover. Started to burn and curl. I seemed to have flushed at last possible second. Almost got to the buds…:partying_face::clown_face:
Thankfully they look to be about +-10 days from finish.

Last update the DLA’s also started showing signs of a calcium deficiency. I hit them with a second 1tbspn/g gypsum that week. Haven’t shown signs since :+1:

The haze has taken all my abuse and has been fine on calcium.
Perhaps the DLAs require more calcium in mid/late bloom?

I still have 2 plants outside, one getting chopped tomorrow and the other looks like it’ll go until November…
It’s been very nice out the last 5 days or so, 60-70F, clear skies.
Cool nights getting as low as 28F. These girls have been taking it all like champs!

She radiates a heavy skunk aroma until you bud rub, then you get what I can best describe as cherry chapstick. I only say chapstick because I can’t pinpoint the floral smell shes actually putting off with the cherry. So I’m getting a cherry floral scent that’s very similar to what cherry chapstick smells like. :+1:
I love her Midnight Purple coloring! She looks like jewelry in the sun! Gorgeous plant :purple_heart:
Chopping her tomorrow.

Her sister:

Same gorgeous coloring but with a completely different bud structure. Smells very sharp and sour with a sweet cherry on the underside.
Looks to need several more weeks.
May get lucky with weather up here and we may pull it off on time!

Another gorgeous day out up here.
Have a great day everyone!

Cheers :potted_plant:

Beautiful plants :kissing_heart:, you’re facing a great harvest, I made a new LABS batch with just 1 liter fresh milk and as expected more thick and creamy curd … :yum:

I love that outdoor plant shes your best, full of frost and nice blue lavender colors. I know youll enjoy those when it gets cold and your stuck inside. My favorite part of growing is the anticipation of harvests. Nice fade on that dla too. Ive noticed plants crave cal mag under leds, no idea why. When i used hid never gave cal mag but once a month if that. Almost there man

I think I’ve read that large parts of Afghanistan have very calcium rich soil, so those plants tend to be calcium hogs. Could be totally off on that but there ya go. I’ve also seen many folks on here describe the LED/calmag connection as well.

Here’s a little bonus content for y’all.
There is actually a third plant outside.
DLA10. To be honest I didn’t expect her to make it, but the weather has been unusually warm with clear skies and she looks to be about 8 or so days from the start window to chop.

She has beautiful lavender/periwinkle leaves. Almost seems to have a blue color to her.
Chocolate brown hairs with hash plant buds.
No noticeable nose when sniffing, but bud rub is similar to the ones inside; sweet lemon, sorta starburst, with something on the bottom. Can’t really describe it but I bet it will develop more post chop.

Another beautiful day up here.
Hope the sun is shining where you are.

Cheers🪴

You too brother! Appreciate your updates and the outdoor bonus! Great weather news. Hoping it keeps up. I’ve got a Black-Tiger girl outdoor that I wasn’t sure was going to make it either. She persevered though and is sticky and glistening in the “October-Summer” we’re having. :crossed_fingers:

Plants are looking gorgeous! Cant get enough of the purple! I love the dream talk man because that has to be some sort of explanation for why the brain just runs wild at night and the dreams almost never connect from one moment asleep to the next. Hope your doing well so far and having a great day!

Alrighty my friends,

Sorry for the long delay since the last update. Honestly the plants haven’t changed much since then and I figured why keep uploading the same photos at this stage.

Today is day 62 of bloom.

My plan with this grow was to only feed guanos during flower via brewed teas. I never tried this and was curious if I could finish a plant(s) with a simple fertilizer regime. I did that once and then chose to top feed them instead with it. I think this is where some of my early issues were beginning to come from which I then began chasing the whole grow until I over fed with the clover ferment. I learned a lot this run and will continue using guanos but only as a booster and not a main feed source.

I was listening to the potcast a while back with Duke Diamond and he mentioned using only teas for his soil and having exceptional results with Dragonfly Earth Medicine. Until I can grow and make my own I decided I’d give them a try. 2tbl spn/ g of water, brew for about 16 hours with worm castings and an air stone. Mix by hand of no air stones.

Harder to find than I expected and about $40 a jar. But with only needing 2tbl/ g of water these should last until I have my own crops for my own inputs.
I really like ferments but they are wicked potent and easy to overdue. Plus using brown sugar can make soil PH go a little wild when in small containers.

I also learned that my sweet spot seems to be 5g containers for the way I like to grow. 3g are a little too small for me to run successful carbon feeding. Just not enough soil. If I run 3g again I will likely mix in bottle nutrition as well.

At week 4 I also ditched the full spectrum LED for the California Light Works - Solarsystem275. Only 200w and for a bloom space of 3x3(veg up to 5x5) with controllable red and blue spectrum. Plants have bulked beautifully under the light and haven’t shown signs of needing more light. I’m also on a light sch of 10.5/13.5.
My solar batteries are thankful for the switch.

With that said…

DLA’s:

Two of the DLA’s are looking like another 3-5 days with the other two at a week or so.
DLA 10(outside) is still holding on strong. About another 3-7 days until chop on her. Healthiest looking of the 5.

Amnesia haze:

Looking like a 12 week finisher.

My best buddy, Floyd checking on the plants.

Big chunk of Chaga I foraged:

Smashed up into small pieces, dehydrated on my wood stove for 16-20 hours. Brew it with my green tea each morning. Stoked to have found quite a few birch trees with fair amounts growing.

We also saw about an inch of snow mid week last week:

It was hilarious seeing my chickens interact with it for the first time. They hated it haha.

I think that’s all for today.

I have some Apollo plants going for the winter and probably won’t document as I will hopefully be too busy hauling trees this winter :crossed_fingers:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Cheers🪴

@CaptainRon . Great update. I also live off the grid and one thing I have experimented with is using a “ pulse width modulator” to turn my homemade lights on and off. I cant remember right now but I think the light cycle is 5 seconds on and 10 seconds off. That way the lights are only on for about 15 minutes every hour but the plants grow as well as they do under continuous light. I have not tried to flower using this schedule. Also it probably wont work for every model of lamp. Just something you can look into. Peace man. :v::grin::+1:

I put the loupe to the girls :face_with_monocle:after my post and it looks like DLA 1&4 should be done by Sunday with the other 3 looking like mid next week. Amnesia haze is looking like she could be ready by day 70.

@Hemp between you and I, the red LEDs over embellish the colors. Under white light the red isn’t as popping.

@Magu that’s wicked cool, thanks for sharing! Something I’ll definitely be looking into.

@HighTilliDie always great to see you pop in! Hope life is treating you good.
In years past some ski resorts would be already dumped on with snow to where you could hike to the top and have a full run down. Seems like another life at this point. 70* yesterday and today.

Dang man i missed your update. Everything looks perfect dude nice job! Love the fall purples. Whacha planning to run next? Weather sucks here been gd 80 everday for 2 weeks, but we dont have global warming right lol. When i was a kid it was 30 degrees from November to February.

What kind of smells you getting on those? Whats the dla lineage it looks an awful lot like bubba kush or a hashplant to me.

The DLA is artifact 1(Mexican chocolate f3) x 88g13/hp. Spot on with the hash plant!
The artifact 1 is an old afghani. Seeds were given to Bodhi from an old friend labeled, ‘roadkill.’ He changed the name for obvious reasons.
They all smell very similar. Roasted, spices, lemon, and a few things I can’t explain. Very complex when just taking a sniff of the plant. On bud rub you get super glue stick with a sweet lemon followed by a little funk. Smells excellent.
They are all chopped at this point and drying.

The haze is still going and could be chopped any day now. Honestly just waiting for her to dry out.
She’s under 16/8 lighting to fatten up with 50% red/100% Blue and white. I guess blue is supposed to bump terpenes on the last two weeks.
Rasta Jeff from Irie always talks about flipping his plants to 18/6 for the last two weeks. Says they get massive because of all the extra light and says you won’t see any signs of reveg in just 2 weeks.
Idk but I’ve been doing it for the last few days and she does look fatter each morning. :man_shrugging:
Smells like black licorice and passion fruit with an undertone of over ripe fruit.

I currently have 3 Apollo fems in dirt. They did suffer from wet feet from some cold nights, but are still young. They’ll grow out of it :crossed_fingers:
I also just popped 4 regs of Sour Iron Maiden by Doc D.
Sour diesel(archive cut) x A5haze/thai bx. Name alone I was sold. Then I saw its SD haze :exploding_head:.
Another user here grew them out and wrote that his pheno smelled of burnt rubber and was his favorite morning smoke. I’m not going to document a weekly veg with these plants. I’ll do a big post once I flip with photos from veg. Then do a weekly flower update. I think I’m going to try the 3g pots again and teas.

I also have A.m. Haze (A5 x mango haze) and Good ol’ Mountain Dew (electric boogaloo(PNW dogshit) x Appalachia) both from High and Lonesome and some Chem 91’ s1 from csi for next year. Plus any fun things I gather from here. @nick131740 How do you think your cross would handle it up here outside, or best kept indoor?

I think I’m going to do a ton of 5g pots outdoors next summer. If I moved the plants under my awning at night they would never get morning dew, rain, or frost. Took one plant to Nov 2 this year. Granted there was some warm weather there was also 28* early mornings.

Tbh id probably do it indoors. Ive got no experience with outdoor stuff, but i bet the nl#2 would be good outside. Are your apollos from bros grimm? Thats a great srain if youve never grown it, good yield of spears.
