My cats are leaf chewers, they do similar damage like that, usually worse though. 
If your cat don’t get in the grow room, must be some kind of bug like the others have mentioned.

I think you have the same type of cat we do…I’m guessing his paws are completely black? Does he look like a small version of a big cat?
