Any one ever do the self-employed dance?

Been running self employed / non incorporated for 10 years.

Only got serious this past 2-5 years .

Now that I’m actually AMASSING revenue…

My income tax rate is.fucking criminal

I’m making in revenue 4x then before…but I’m getting slammed with insane income tax
.then also paying EMPLOYEE AND EMPLOYER PORTION CPP @ 9.8 % or smt
And I just read that for 2023 CPP for self employed is gone up to 11.4%.

Need to get creative with accounting or incorporate…

Either dump everything into RRSP

Or …

Buy some equipment/ vehicles…

Need more expenses really…it’s funny how that works

If I buy a asset I can reduce my income pay less tax - and have an asset. That I could then sell?
A big problem is using my vehicle as Its NOT a full time business vehicle as I use it for personal.

So i can only write off 20% of all vehicle related expense, insurance, gas, maintenance.i probably use the vehicle for personal 5%.

I should revise that for this year…I only work…I’m gonna look into writing it all off…fuck it maybe its worth taking incorporating and selling the truck and everything to the company …or leasing a vehicle for full time vehicle.to expense it all
. Better than giving the govt 20k for last year n more next year…

I can’t lie hahaha
.so should I just buy a POS car lol ?

I really need a private business advisor / accountant to help make all this go away.

Incorporating would solve alot of this .

The money is left in the business regardless
…but it’s only a seasonal.business so it’s kinda weird.

Pretty much I need convincing to switch from self employed to Incorporated.

Need to roll over…

Just been doing self employed for 10 years. I’m used to the system and comfortable.

But the math is not working out.

Im netting 25% of total revenue

and paying 23+% income tax + 10% CPP on it …

And i only work 5 months of the year

So sounds like i need to incorporate and take a pay cheque.

Or get creative as fuck .

Before tax time buy stuff you can write off better to own shit than give it to the government. Get a good accountant to do your tax’s . Save all your receipts write off meals work clothes part of your energy bill if working from home . That’s about all I can recommend.

Pretty sure you can claim a part of your mortgage if you work from home…lots of cool money saving tricks for the self-employed!!
