Chiefer’s Den

Amen. People who say “this is my keeper” based on looks alone during the first time flowering are nuts, or they grow for different reasons than me. I don’t really care what a plant looks like or how it yields (within reason) as long as it smokes great! I’m not trying to impress anybody.

As such, I don’t see any reason to cull any females before they’re dried and cured and smoked multiple times. But, still, only popping 3 beans there’s a pretty good chance of getting no females. I wish you the best!

Double Dawg Biscuits day 64, she’s running out of steam, but I’m trying to hold off a day or two to let the trichomes milk up a bit more. I’m considering cutting the top half and giving the larfy lowers a bit more time to see if they’ll chunk up and mature a bit. I think if I’m going to stick with these small containers that I’ll need to come up with a better strategy to keep them fed better. I’ve been considering adding an organic liquid fertilizer to try to keep up during flowering. I’m considering Neptunes fish and kelp or perhaps Dr. Earths liquid line. Anyone have experience with these??

Living soil doesn’t need perlite or coco. No stuff that decomposes very slowly. I haven’t watered my pots in 25 days now. Still moist. Plants doing good considering a bunch of diverse abuse.

Add chopped up bananapeels, nettles, dandelion, thistle, tree leaves, grass clippings, horse manure, kitchen scraps and some worms instead. Mix into your starter soil. Then topdress with that after every harvest, as your soil sinks, or whenever you feel like it. The more diverse organic matter, the better.

Now it takes a while for living soil to settle and balance itself out, but once it gets going it only gets better and better.

Maybe get a bag of worm castings to get started as well, they often still contain worms and their eggs.

I up potted the Pura Vida (@nube ) runt. I didn’t think it was going to make it, but it’s been plucking along so new shoes it is. I noticed a few fungus gnats, so I top dressed with 1tsp bio live and 1tsp castings. That was massaged into the top of the soil and then all containers got a sprinkle of de to cover. I am using a wick buried about an inch down on these pots, and it had been working well, but recently I’m seeing them run away a little and am seeing runoff water in the bottom of my trays on a few.

The Pura Vida f2 got a similar mix to the others (1/3 tsp Azomite, small handful of castings, 1/3 tsp insect frass) the only difference is I gave 1 1/4 tsp of bio live instead of 1 tsp this time.

I removed my reservoir containers, added more DE, and aimed the fan more directly over the top of the soil. I’m considering picking up some mosquito dunks to water in and plan to bottom water for a little while.

Thanks man, looking back at my pictures from a week ago, the smaller plants have really started to catch up. At this rate I’ll be ready to flip in no time.

Up potted BLB (front center) and Citrus Milf (back center). I reintroduced the wick system for those two, this time placing the wick low in the pot.

Soil mix for up pot from qt to #1 (.7 gallon) trade pot:
1.5 qt Roots Organic soil
1 pint worm castings
1tsp azomite
2/3 tsp insect frass
5tsp Bio-live
1tsp Dr Earth Tomato, Veg, and Herb
2/3tsp flower girl

Two of the Pura Vida f2 appear to be ladies so they earned some new shoes. All three At x DCP look like they could be dudes, but they’ll get a few more days just to be sure.

Getting ready to flip soon. I’ve been waiting for AT x DCP to sex, they all look like dudes to me but I’ve been giving them some time to show. They want new shoes, but I’ve been holding out until I see female preflowers to upsize. I cut my light timing down to 14/10 last night to try to get them to show a bit more preflower development.

The third Pura Vida finally got chopped. The other two are ladies and doing well. This one was a runt early on and I was pretty sure it was going to stall out and die, but it carried on and made it all the way until today. It’s stem rub was a nice sweet kushy smell.
Overall this was my best veg group so far. I kept the whole group mostly happy, and although I had a few fungus gnats I avoided having the chase any real plant problems.

Fat leaves :maple_leaf: :sunglasses:
2 girls is better than none. Can’t wait to see the flowers !

Did the small one end up being a male or were you just tired of waiting for it? I agree with Windy that it had nice fat leaves and at least 2 girls are better than one. That kushy sweet smell is what you want to look for!

It looked like male bits to me, it took a while to start showing, but I’d say I’m 90% certain on my assessment.

The other two smell different to me. One is sour citrus arm pit funk, and the other is burnt rubber and toast with some tootsie roll sweetness.

May the flowering commence!
Black Light Bubba (Dino Party, front left), Citrus Milf (313 seeds, front right), and 2x Pura Vida f2 from @nube in the back.

Everything was up potted into 2 gallon trade pots. Roots organic soil with worm castings (1 1/2 to 2 pints), biolive (4tsp), Flower Girl (4 or 4.5 tsp), Azomite, and insect frass (2tsp each). I watered with a little Root Ruckus (kelp/humic). They are on 12.5 hours for now and will be moved to 12/12 in a few days. I plan to move to 11.5/12.5 by mid-flower.
