Cola’s starting from scratch garden

Just been down in the shed. (ignore the sink paste for now was literally using it for spacial reference) removed all the fans from the sinks. Marked up.

Using a 2.5mm hss bit to drill

And tapping for the m3 screws. (that I actually forgot to order)

That’s all there is to this bit to be honest. 9 more to go.

And @ReikoX not one for faffing about myself bro. Hoping to get it up and over something ASAP. I sent half the autos you shipped me out to @Gaz29 today too. Was supposed to be yesterday but never got to the postbox due to being high af :joy:

Sweet, hope he gets them safe and sound. Taping heatsinks is a slow process that requires patience. :wrench: :tools:

Takes about 2 mins a sink using the drill press and then tapping. It’s all the smoking in between that takes the time. Need to find a way to mount them as the issues I had getting the Arctic 11 Pro is now causing me issues. Sure I’ll come up with a decent solution though. Will ponder that over a smoke now :smirk:

Cant beat some herbal inspiration eh. How about using some spacers between the fan body and the fins?

beautiful. that’s going to be a powerhouse of blazing lights! How many total watts will it run?

252w of cobs and 120w of solstrips. So 370ish watts for a 2x4 tent. Both aspects of the lighting are dimmable

nice! you may need to dim it, 46 watts per sqf should more than cover it.

one soldered and fitted. Its a bad solder. A terrible solder. It’s all I’m doing whilst this high. I’ll plod on tomorrow haha. And I will need to dim it. I’m already certain of that bro

@Muleskinner I recon that’s a lot for a 2 x 4 tent too but it could be used in a bigger space, maybe up to 4 x 4 x 8. Look forward to seeing the finished product producing :yum:

exactly…I’m thinking it won’t be long before this light is moved to a 4x4 area. Once you have more light capability you tend to use it!

I was always taught it’s better to have it and not need it. Than need it and not have it @Albannach

Can i give you a wee tip from the world of diy audio. Get some quad eutectic solder, it’s expensive but oh so worthwhile. Melts like butter and that is important when soldering sensitive components that easily damage with excessive heat. A

That may be a fried chip. I won’t lie to you. It happens. I do have a few extras but it may end up being another spectrum. I got excited and carried away with my little self didn’t I :joy: just so happens I have to go to the Royal Mail sorting office tomorrow so gonna grab some more thermal paste. An actual new Tap and die set cos my last trip out was a fail.

It’ll make you more cautious next time eh, if you can, pick up some cutting fluid or just use 3 in 1 oil when drilling and tapping your heat sinks. I’ve built a few power amps over the years and snapped drill bits and taps in the heat sinks, easy to do when they are so small.
Good taps set helps, HSS at least, oh and use all 3 taps in the set, starter, inter and plug cutter.

Single piece tap set I’ve got at the minute mate. M3 to m12. Its a case of drilling out with 2.5mm hss bit and then tapping. That tap and die set has done well to be honest. Will have a look for good solder too but I’m hitting brick and mortar shops so you can imagine the struggle foreseen haha

There’s always a workaround, one is to wiggle the drill bit in the hole a little cos an M3 tap is a bit too tight in an M2.5 hole, the tap threads bottom out if that makes sense Good luck tomorrow btw.

The solution to mounting them was a nice simple one. Cost £20.10 at checkout and will be here by the 16th. Gives me time to get the rest in order
