Day 56. The plants are looking pretty done, but I checked some seeds from a lower branch and they were not quite ready. So one more week.

Chernobyl-1

Chernobyl-6

I’m noticing now that a few are blurry. Toooo stoned.

Took the day off work yesterday to harvest and trim. #priorities

First, here is my very haggard looking GDP. Looks like I got a good number of seeds from her, considering she is a small plant in a half gallon container.

Next is Cornbread. The one was my favorite from three Cornbread that I grew out recently. I was surprised how chunky she got in a one gallon container. She could easily have gone another week, but I need the space for another project. I’m sure I’ll get a few seeds and a bit of hash, so all good.

Next is a strain of mine called Mystery Woman. This one was the winner from a ten plant selection I did last year. Strong astringent lemon smells and flavors. I actually put her in after I had cleaned up the pollen. I was growing her for smoking, but I’m not mad that she has a few seeds. Grown in a one gallon container.

Next are the two Chernobyl females. Apologies in advance that some of the pictures are a bit blurry.

Chernobyl #6 has smaller buds and more internodal space, but had a stronger smell. Both have about the same amount of resin. I would describe the smell at harvest as very sweet and reminiscent of Bazooka gum, but with a tropical undertone that reminds me of pineapple. Both Chernobyl were grown in five gallon containers for nine weeks.

Lastly, the Chernobyl #1. This one has larger buds than the #6 and yielded a bit more. It did not have much smell up until last week. I was actually unsure if I wanted seeds from it. However, it developed a really unusual sweet smell; like if Bazooka came out with a burnt rubber flavor. It is nasty, in the best way. One thing I learned is that the famous Slymer cut is not the only excellent Chernobyl pheno to be found.

What is next?

After I know how many Chernobyl F2 seeds I end up with, I’ll make some decisions about how best to share them.

Now, I’m growing out a clone of the Chernobyl #1. I want to see what she does unpollinated, to give me a reference for when I start popping the F2 seeds. I’ll post pictures here.

I was also planning to grow out the Chernobyl #6, but I may have f**ked up and gotten the clone mixed up with one of the males. I’m not totally certain yet, but it looks like it. It is not a big deal, because I don’t have space to keep clones long term, so she was going away either way. That is why I got into making seeds in the first place.

I was curious if others have described some of the smells I’m picking up. Subcool described Chernobyl as Lime Slurpee. Both of mine are very sweet smelling, so I get the Slurpee part. And pineapple is not that far from lime.

I found this old RIU topic where some other phenos are mentioned. This guy had a “fuelly diesel lemon/lime smell”, which sounds a bit similar to my burnt rubber bubblegum pheno:

Someone else had one the smelled like “grape lime bubblegum”: Chernobyl - Phenotype searching | Page 4 | Rollitup

Since Chernobyl is very much a polyhybrid that was never stabilized, it is not at all surprising that it has many expressions. I expect we will see a ton of really interesting variation in the F2s since all four males looked different. If anyone just wants Slymer/Golden Ticket, hunting these seeds will not be an easy way to find it.
