Coronavirus Facts and Fiction - January - May 2020 [Closed]

Bean counters have destroyed many businesses unfortunately!

I only had a few n95 masks left over and being of “that age” cannot afford to part with any unfortunately.

My chosen Dog food is gone as well :frowning:
Of course it was selling for 4x the normal price before disappearing. Having multiple dogs meant choosing a second tier food FTM.

This is the first information I’ve seen about infection in children, so I figured I’d offer it for anyone else interested. There are tables and graphs at the end if you don’t have time to read it.

Absolutely don’t give up your PPE. Your health first. The ramp up of manufacturing and initial stock will all be going to them and the well connected anyhow. We’ll be the last in line.

We had a sufficient number to plan our excursions accordingly and only gave up an amount that wouldn’t put ourselves in jeopardy. Now we just have just enough extra for the occasional friends of the family type emergencies. So, no more being donated out from this house.

Kinda makes me glad I bought 100 refills for my respirator I use when I spray paint. That is if it gets that bad here. Only one case in my town 4 in the county and our county is the largest and most rural in the state.

TY @Marcus420…Best for yours too!
I have 3 large ones and now have over 150lbs of dry + some more in cans…We should all be good, or they will share in my own human provisions!

In case anyone is worried or in need of a GREAT food supply…checkout Omaha Steaks (and others) online. Horribly expensive, but WTF…There is still little fresh meat or poultry to be had in Reno, NV. Aside from the rush to buy…we had a snowstorm over the weekend that closed the passes down between California and Nevada… Hopefully things will get better this week.

Bought a couple of hundred $$ of burgers last week. I was surprised that they even were taking new orders…alas the delivery(s) have slipped again!

I have no affiliation…

I think the panic is because it’s a silent killer of your mentors.
For most of us it will be terrible but we will live.
What worries me is you might not see symptoms for two weeks. This enables the virus to spread.
My worry for my self are purely economic. But only in keeping roof over head and food in belly and self sufficiency in meds.
But I worry for my mother who has recently undergone surgery for breast cancer and had to go for preventive chemotherapy on Tuesday.
She has to go again in three weeks and it’s making me think.

There is a rash of work vehicle break ins in my area, package thefts. I had a neighbor wearing a balloony red latex suit, black boots, a Breaking Bad hat and a scarf. Bozo meets Walter meets Saw. I barely got a glimpse of him before he saw me and slammed his door.

Corona (Wuhan) Virus Facts or Fiction

Does vaping increase/decrease your chances of contracting Wuhan?

Which is better/worse, dry herb/eliquid?

All fiction at the moment since there is not enough studies/data to parse atm but there is this:

"According to Dr Michael Matthay, the associate director of critical care medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), the answer is yes - although it is not currently known to what extent.

“Based on prior studies with other pulmonary infections, both bacterial and viral, it is highly likely that cigarette smoking and vaping will increase the risk of coronavirus pneumonia and increase its severity, though we don’t know to what extent,” he said."
according to SFGate.

Rare bit of commonsense from NIH:

“It is therefore reasonable to be concerned that compromised lung function or lung disease related to smoking history, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), could put people at risk for serious complications of Covid-19,” the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIH) states."

Young people and vaping, does it explain the rise in younger patients with Wuhan?

  • Nearly 40% of hospitalized US coronavirus patients are between ages 20 and 54
  • One in five young American adults uses e-cigarettes regularly or occasionally
  • A Chinese study found that smokers are 14-times more at risk for severe coronavirus infection and 14% more likely to get pneumonia for it
  • Research suggests that vaping and smoking make people similarly vulnerable to respiratory infections and to worse complications of these illnesses

Good article on vaping in general:

Not on anybody here but, for at least the extent of this crisis, maybe putting down the pipe, pen and dry herb vapes seems to make survival sense.
Edibles for the win!

EDIT
Just saw this:

All vaping concerns would be with nicotine I would think?
Although I’ve told my mum to hold off buying cbd to keep cancer at bay.
I was sending texts and said the only problem I can see is in the use of cannabis in multiple sclerosis where it dampens the immune system to stop the body combating phantom menaces.
Straight after government explained there reason for telling people to to stop using ibuprofen as it’s an anti inflammatory.
So as she was only going to get cbd which is anti inflammatory I’ve asked her to wait.

I did see a site earlier that gave a description of how nicotine hurts your lungs.

“Nicotine and other toxins in cigarettes and e-cigs harms the cilia, hair-like structures found in the lungs and respiratory tract. “They’re either being paralyzed or killed or can be shortened, which causes a decrease in mucus clearance,” Dr. Pirzada says.”

Anecdotally, I get increased phlegm production and coughing when dry herb vaping.
Makes sense that the vapor produced would condense in your lungs and your body would react this way to expel the foreign substance.
I don’t fine grind my vape weed just use a twist grinder for a loose texture but I’m getting fine particles of the plant for sure.
I just acted on this, charged, cleaned and put away my vapes.

Mm interesting.
Just asked mum what pak choi is as that and fennel where only vegetables left in supermarket.
Quite nice she said Chinese cabbage don’t overcook though.
Mum lived in Singapore late sixties and probably encountered it there!
She also introduced me to Singapore noodles which questioned my faith in aetheism

You are much better off taking CBD as an edible or a oil orally, smoking just wastes it, and really does nothing for my pain or inflammation I have found.

Its the tar and oils mainly that covers and reduces the cilia, stopping it from doing its job of moving mucus out of your lungs and throat. The problem is heightened by the way your windpipe works, it creates a centrifugal affect with the air when breathing in, causing it to move to the outer walls of your windpipe, to warm up the air and throw any substances in it, onto the cilia so they can be clean out the lungs. The tar and stuff just coats it and stops its function.

I dont know what would be worse… dying of Corona virus because I smoke cigarettes… or being in lock down with the old lady without being able to smoke cigarettes… pretty sure, either way I die
