Coronavirus Facts and Fiction - January - May 2020 [Closed]

No one is cheering anything. And no, they are not “gone”. It certainly is not going to be due to a single “mayor” of a small town that hasn’t even implemented anything yet. It’s not states either.

For now, I’ll readily jump on rational actions (curfew, etc) in order to slow the spread of a virus because the, meh, “it’s just a flu” crowd will be spreading it. Those unable to get past themselves are the reason for decisive action and why things like “curfews” occur. It is why “freedoms” are lost, either temporarily (or permanently) because it’s the folk willing to put others at risk (no fault of their own) that we end-up losing those freedoms collectively.

This virus has the ability to negatively impact my family, my friend, my neighbors, and my town. Negative, as in, severe consequences that may include dead.

We’ve seen a number of times that some folk with this virus nonchalantly breaking quarantine, run around the town spreading the virus to the unsuspecting. If one of those folk shows up at my family’s front door chanting meh, 'Merica, they’ll be looking down the receiving end of my “banned” rifle. That’s freedom.

In six months, let’s swing back around and summarize the freedoms that have actually been lost. I’ll fight that battle with you. We can debate where and how things went wrong or where things were overblown. We can then vote whatever idiots out of office and decide what we, as a society, could have done better.

It’s brought up because it’s an enumerated right that is/has been under constant attack. Would be the same for other “freedoms” if under attack.

Well, this levels the playing field in the worst of ways.

Oh so you can be like the Italians where they pick who lives and who dies or like the baby in England the courts decided it was too expensive to continue care and wouldn’t even let the parents take the child to another country that was offering to treat him for free. Yeah you can have that bullshit. It’s not about the gun itself it’s the freedom of being able to have it, the ability to defend ones self instead of relying on traitors in blue to protect you to death

There you go cheering the stripping of freedoms while saying it’s not happening. You say it’s just one town, well answer this how do you eat an elephant? One small bite at a time. The rate of spread is exaggerated greatly, this isn’t just a month old bug man it’s been around for 6 months at least and was being called an upper respiratory infection until tests showed what it was.

I am free to acquire a gun if I choose.

You: gun is freedom.
Me: working 3 jobs to afford dialysis equals slavery.

Right back at you.

Nothing has been stripped. See you in six months. Stay safe.

I’m not saying the state isn’t messed up but universal govt controlled healthcare is not the answer. Hell govt regulation is there reason for the high cost now. I hate to break it to you but govt isn’t the answer to problems it’s the cause

Tell that to the people that can’t leave their home after 10 pm. Others rights so not stop where your fear begins

It’s obvious we disagree and that’s fine.

I do agree big government is an enemy though.

Yes it really is. The croniesm in govt is breaking us all. There really needs to be an affordable insurance out there for those that make to much for help but not enough to pay for healthcare. Ever since the ACA my premiums almost tripled and coverage went down. Prime example of why we don’t want govt running our healthcare. There should be a cap on profit for services, they have to make money to innovate but a 9000% Mark up is insane. 900 for an IV that cost them 5 is where the problem lies

There is bloat in our health care system too.

It’s even worse with private insurers. Our system of private dental care is as backwards as your health system.

Not an accusation to you - I believe that with rights come responsibilities. I pay for schools I don’t use, roads I don’t use, and health care I don’t use. I’m happy to pay for them though.

I suppose I’m saying that these things are worth a little effort on my part. Much like temporarily limiting my freedoms to protect those at risk.

Something that is currently discussed in Czech republic:

Czech republic, 10.6 million population. 3500 tested, 231 infected. Still at the dawn of epidemy…

Czech situation is specific because:

· We are still very lucky to have a limited amount of cases and little community spread
· Total shortage of protective gear, respirators, masks etc. for even the most exposed in the first line of defense — doctors and medical personnel
· Testing capacity is limited, helplines are clogged up, it is often very difficult for people with symptoms to even get tested
· Our governments are not agile and capable enough to deliver a response like Singapore, which can deliver surgically precise interventions on a micro level.
· Contact tracing is becoming increasingly more complicated with the amount of cases and the rise of community spread.

I’d like to ask everyone to keep the conversation respectful. You can have different thoughts and opinions on a matter without having to revert to name calling and insults.

If things get further heated and off track, I’ll be looking to move those comments into the tank where you can have your “mini-battles”. Thanks.

Was ignored…am moving provocative stuff into a tank thread after this point.

They have ordered all bars and restaurants closed in Illinois and Ohio. Michigan is just a matter of time now. This is terrible news for me. I’m not made of money and not working for a month is gonna HURT.

I’m not living hand to mouth paycheck-to-paycheck anymore, but I’m not rich either.
