I’m with you, but unfortunately that’s not how things work. Look at vitamins and natural health things like lithium. There are all sorts of health benefits in taking them and funding real studies to figure out exactly what they do would benefit people immensely, but they can’t be patented so no company will waste any money studying them simply because they can’t patent it and hoard it/set prices. They see tons of money in cannabis and as soon as they can pay off the right people to get it federally legalized it’ll happen quickly.
Yeah man just a guy with the pipe dream haha. Regardless it won’t change how I continue to grow and consume cannabis that’s for sure unless somebody wants to offer me a six-figure job in the industry. Being in the deep South not really an option
As far as crediting breeders for their genetics, a lot goes on behind the scenes we arent aware of (deals made, promises broken etc…) and I think a lot also depends on the level of the breeder/project. Does someone with accidental F1’s get the same accreditation as someone who is actually pheno hunting, back crossing and testing F4’s? Does a “pollen chucker” get to lay claim to those F4’s if they just grew out a batch to open pollinate without any selective breeding?
I think legit “worked” strains should be accredited to their makers when simply reproduced without crossing with anything else…and mentioned in the genetics when used for an F1.
JMO
Yeah that is a great point… Most small home growers just playing around with genetics not exactly testing and working out the genetic code haha.
What do you want to bet as soon as it’s federally legal? the companies will lay claim to the genetics. Then produce nothing but triploid plants. No seeds will be available. all genetics controlled. Monsanto style.
AlthoughThat’s Probably going to happen with every single plant on earth Sooner than later.
The differentiation of breeder terminologies is a detriment to the community. There will be hierarchies as with anything, but the way they’re used now is just a vehicle to shit on people.
That’s definitely what they’ll do, but won’t be able to lay claim to older genetics. So, they’ll modify them enough to own the rights to them. There will still be seeds and people making seeds at home. Just like wine and all other hobbies there will be “connoisseurs” who want the best and to mess with things themselves. But, once federally legal it’ll be everywhere and the masses will be using it. What’s the percentage of wine drinkers who only drink Lafite and Margaux? Plenty are happy with grabbing a bottle of Barefoot from the grocery or corner store. But, others grow their own grapes to make their own, collect bottles like maniacs, and so on.
To me, I do not think, in the future the big companies will control the cannabis seed market.
Look at alcohol.
Moonshiners were part of the fabric of building this nation.
However, after the Whiskey Rebellion, they became a pariah to organized alcohol makers, and needed eradicated.
200 years later, they are still around, doing just fine, and have their own TV series now.
