Crownpoodle's 4x4

man I am in the same boat as you with nutes right now although i am have also been battling aphids for the first time and I did not take them seriously enough. They broke out to infestation levels while I was away hunting and fishing and when I got back it;s like … wow… ho-leeee fuk. I think I have a handle on it now but man my garden looks like shit LOL
The nutrient thing though… I guess Canada is no longer getting general hydro products and it’s been like that for some time now. I can order off amazon and some stores down in the big city 5 hours away do have remaining inventory. I just haven’t ordered or stopped in on any of my trips down there. So I have hhad to improvise and experiment and am currently trying this Future Harvest Easy Grow+ … 5-4-7 with macros. I dunno if it’s gonna cut it.
I need my GH Lucas formula back so am gonna have to bite the bullet and make the drive to the one store I know has significant inventory to pillage LOL. I have plenty of the koolbloom powder and liquid and calimagic and a couple others I rarely use but the Hardwater Micro and the Bloom are non existant in stores within a 5 hour drive… crazy. I’d rather not buy from amazon.

I stopped by the local grow store, GroGeneration, and it was permanently closed. Not moved. No notice. I was in 2 weeks prior. I would have stocked up.
They big guys came in. The little guys all went out of business. Big guy closes? Not cool at all.

We had 3 stores to buy supplies at when I first moved here 15 years ago and they all blamed losing sales to Amazon as to why they had to close. Now we have no real grow stores only home harware , a feed and tack store that has some stuff but its all random. They always have PH stuff though and dry bales of sunshine mix where anywhere else I can buy it from it is outside attracting bugs. There is also a plant nursery/garden center where I can get my bulk products like bone meal, manure and gypum. I just can’t get a decent plant food line and I’ve tried Holland Secret liquid bloom and hardwater micro and it’s acceptable but not… and now the future harvest grow+ which I dunno if it’s the LED/nutrients learning curve or what but I have almost tossed my whole garden several times in the last 6 weeks LOL

I’ll post leaf pics in a bit. I have about 3 years indoors. I dont have experience beyond that. Outdoors in 20s and 30s, I’d dump a couple pots in a kiddie pool, toss in a bunch of dry amendments, worm castings. Every few pots varied some. I used Botanicare Growilla for a couple years till they sold. I fed mostly compost teas. That’s a pretty forgiving approach. Years mold didn’t hit me I blew up the yard. But indoors…everything needs to be way tighter. I know the local hardware store carries peat and Perlite, my starting point. They might be able to order something. Local store has Dynagro and Fox Farm.
If a person grew the same strain over and over, the learning curve might be faster. But I like lots of different strains. Can you get Jack’s or JR Peter’s? I see it discussed and used quite a bit. Somebody had a spreadsheet for all the products.

Did you know ants will bring aphids to certain plants and collect the honeydew from the aphids?
You may not see the ants but they could be part of the problem.

I’ve seen that before, but not on my plants. Some deal on TV with insane macro photography.

I used maxi bloom for a long time, only issue I remember with it was it dropped the pH substantially and I was having add pH up,
Then I swapped over to Jacks Tap, then Jacks 3-2-1 and now I am quite happy and most pleased with just using Jacks Part A 4g/gal & Part B 2 g/gal, no epsom. During veg I do use epsom some. No pH issues, no issues at all. And cheap when you buy in bulk/free shipping. They have now come out with a no nitrogen formula that I will try eventually (haven’t seen it with free shipping yet).
If you Youtube here is a video from greengenes

If you would like to try it out I would be glad to send you some after the holidays.

GH Lucas is as tried and true as any but if you have the itch for something new I’d recommend jacks also. Cheap, ph stable, complete. Been using the last 3 runs and think I have the kinks mostly worked out (swapped to coco at the same time). Tons of info here and a lot of ppl more well informed than me, but lmk if you have any questions

My water can come in pretty hard. It literally takes 30 minutes to dissolve. Wonder if that’s why. I tried warm water too. Same.

The maxicrop does? Jacks also takes a while to dissolve for me in tap water, maybe 20-25 minutes? But I just mix w/ a pipe for like 30seconds, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, mix again & repeat until its clear.

edit: oops yes you do mean maxibloom wtf am I thinking :man_facepalming: have you tried a paint mixer…

ya I know about those farming ants. There aren’t any ants though , these had to have started as ride alongs with the Blackberry Hammer and Slurricane. In my greenhouse I saw lots of ants at the beginning of the season. After I sprayed the greenhouse with sulphur before moving the plants, it seems the ants no longer wanted to be there. I literally watched larger dominant ants herding and guarding lines of smaller ants that were carrying what looked like ant larva. There were coming from holes in the greenhouse floor and went outside the greenhouse somewhere. I saw the odd aphid during the greenhouse run but routine inspections of the plants throughout the grow for mites and thrips would have also revealed any aphid colonizing. Confident they came on the clones.

Yeah…I could do that. For now, I’m back to the Lucas. Or will be when I get it. The Lucas with a couple adds I like is just too simple. If something seems off, I’m comfortable addressing it.

Also a nice one that was super easy was Gaia green, it worked surprisingly well. I did get heavy handed half way through flower and doubled up the dose and got some burnt tips.

Some questions here…
Are you in reused soil/medium?
Have you checked runoff/runout for PH as well as PPM?
What is the PPM of your nutes going in?
Have you been using a lot of gypsum?

My shot from the hip guess is…maybe calcium.

Hey @shag Still in peat and Perlite. Fresh always. Worm castings and lime added. Run-off last week was 6.6 in, 6.8 run-off. PPM today was about 700. Diamond K gypsum regularly. No foliar in the last 10 days. I think they’re at 10 or 12 days since 12/12. Problem popped up after flipping. Coincidence?
