Curious about the components on my first (failed) growth

Due to mental illness, my first try didn’t survive. I’m not sure exactly how to identify bud (or THC), but I’m pretty sure I got some seeds to use for my second try. Before I harvest all the seeds and throw away the dead plant, I wanted to be sure there was no THC on the plant. Also, these seeds should be fine, right? Thank you guys for any help.

Welcome!

I’m afraid you may be disappointed if you smoke it. It looks like it has some resin but I’d expect it to be very premature given that you killed it. Worth a try though.

Seeds - where did they come from? I would be very suspicious of them and would likely throw them away unless I knew more. Herm? Mystery male? Who knows.

Thank you so much! I’m glad to be here!

Haha. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve smoked, maybe there is just enough to get me a little high. I’ll give it a go and let you know if I just smoked nothing. Xp

The seeds are from the plant. I got the original seeds out of a very seedy buy, and decided to plant them. I had three plants and this one is the only one that has seeds all over it. I’m not sure what “herm” or “mystery male” means. I’m sorry. I’m a newb.

Herm= plant with male and female reproductive organs

Mystery male means is there a male in the room?

You can grow fine plants with bagseed.

Herm is hermaphrodite, sometimes plants want to pollinate themselves.

Usually though, a male plant pollinates a female plant and the female yields seeds.

So as a guess I’d say one of your plants was male.

Do you have any pics of the other plants?

That all makes sense! Thank you!

Oh! I see what you’re trying to get at. I did not kill off any of the plants after they grew. I was under the impression that if the leaves had 5 fingers, it was a female, and if they had 3 fingers it was a male. All three of my plants grew with 5. Now there might be a better way to determine, but not that I’ve learned yet.

I can post a picture, but remember, they are dead so don’t be too upset with me. :broken_heart:

The plant on the left is the one with the seeds. I already pulled the one in the back completely out (it’s the one I tried clipping to make a busier plant, so it was slight bigger)

Wait! No! I’m wrong. It looks like the one in the back might have the majority of its leaves with 3 fingers. I see some with 5

It’s very hard to tell from the pic. Maybe someone with better eyes than me could say.

The 3 or 5 finger thing is bad information. You can’t tell sex based on this, at least not that I’ve seen.

What were you looking for? I can take a better picture if you think it would be helpful. Is there a better way to determine gender that you think I could use?

Overall, I’m thinking that the seeds will be fine to replant since the parents are most likely both from the same seeds. I’m going to plant some others that a friend bought online at the same time just to be safe.

Thank you so much for your help.

Front left is female for sure with all the hairs, back left looks maybe male. Can we get a closer look at that one?

I would show you pics if I had them, but female plants have little white hairs and male plants have hanging balls. You can’t tell until they are ~1 month old.

I think it’s a good idea to use purchased seed too. Bagseed can be good but you just don’t know what you’re going to get.

Of course! The back one didn’t develop any little hairs.
And the third one had very few, but no seeds.

Hers some better pictures of our “suspected male”

the sex of marijuana plants has nothing to do with the number of leaflets on the leaf
here you go

little by little you will become an expert grower

That’s so helpful! :purple_heart: Thank you so much! I don’t remember seeing any “balls”, but I did neglect them unfortunately. I’ll pay more attention the next time!

You can even get a few just on the stem down lower which is what people call a hermaphrodite as it would have both male and female. Do you want to tell us what you did and I’m sure someone will have pointers.

What I did with what? I was a terrible plant mommy. I didn’t take care of them the way they should have been.

The basics so we can get an idea of What happened and maybe What you can do to help.
What soil or substrate were they in?
when did you water?
What did you water with?
Where were they placed?

I was supposed to move them to a coir before they started flowering to protect them from nitrate, but I didn’t get that far. So I just grew the seeds in normal soil. There was probably some leftover nitrate in it which is why I wanted to move them to the coir before the flowering process. I water everyday in the morning before it gets hot when I water the rest of my plants. I live in FL, so it gets hot and I don’t want to boil the roots of my plants by having them sit in hot water all afternoon. I water with just tap water. Nothing fancy. And they are placed on my balcony getting maybe about 7 hours of sun. This next time I want to try lamps if I can afford them.

Were they dry by evening? If may be as simple as not enough water or too much water
