Newbie to the forum, I was told I could find some help for my predicament here…

Hey there, I’m a 2nd season barebones outdoor grower, and I posted about my plight on a growing forum on Reddit, and basically the only person there that wasn’t audibly scoffing their monocle off in response was a kind individual who DM’d me a link to this forum and told me I can find some likeminded individuals here, so here’s my problem (TL;DR below):

So my whole ethos getting into this hobby was seeing the bare minimum that was needed to grow what I consider a decent, tasty product to (mostly) roll spliffs with, and the more I can offset what I would have spent at the club for it, the happier I am. I don’t begrudge anyone with a $2000 setup for 6 plants as a hobby, but even if I had that lying around I’d rather start from the bottom, figure out what’s absolutely essential, what works the best for the least amount invested, and go from there.

About 45 weeks ago, I drunkenly realized I had seeds, a small pot, and soil in a bag lying around in my back yard one night, and threw just threw 6 in without much of a thought. A week later 5 sprouted and I go into “holy shit I can actually grow some weed” mode. I went deep researching (thanks growweedeasy), carefully transplanted each of those into their own pots, while frantically asking friends for extra seeds they had lying around and promised them 20% of whatever I got out of them.

Unfortunately for those seeds I got from friends, I realized later that by early July it was too late in the season (and I also definitely over-defoliated lol), most of those flowered before they were any respectable size, and between those factors and some extra bad luck with males with my original 5, I ended up with 2 plants I managed to get to final product, with an amount that lasted me to the end of the year, with some gifts going around for Christmas after they were done curing. Not a whole lot, but enough to encourage me to have another crack at it this year, and with what I’ve already learned, I’m optimistic.

I didn’t have a lot of seeds left, but my original plan in January was to start a smaller grow, supplementing the sun with a crappy light to see if I could trick the plants into thinking it was summer long enough to maturity and pollenate to get some more seeds for the main grow, and while I’m feeling pretty great about the size of those plants now (all things considered), they’re still not out of veg. I found some more seeds, but maybe this batch are duds because I’ve had zero success with them using the method I had been, or experimenting with other methods.

So I look online for seeds. Not feminized, not auto, just seeds. Straight off the plant, no processing, with a price that reflects that… and I literally can’t find anything. And I don’t blame the seed companies, why bother sending someone regular seeds for a buck a piece or something like that when you can soak 100,000 seeds in a vat of some hormone and charge 10-20x that? But I really don’t care about having the offspring of this year’s cannabis cup winner, from some name brand.

I just want some regular ass seeds, and I can’t justify anything even approaching $100 for 10 seeds after my entire grow for last year cost me $50 ($20 for grow bags, $25 for grove bags, $5 for humidity sensor, got the soil on a come up after talking to a guy at the nursery, hose water).

I’ve had a loose rule with myself since that last grow that I won’t smoke weed that wasn’t either grown by me or freely given without my asking, but I know I’m running out the clock for this season now, so I’m contemplating calling up every club in the county asking if they have any schwag with seeds in it, since that was where I got the last seeds and it came out better than the bud I got it from somehow. But I’d feel much better about it if I didn’t have to do that (plus I’m interviewing for a new job so I can’t smoke the weed now anyway).

TL;DR: does anyone know of a site that sells discount regular-ass seeds? Dgaf about auto, dgaf about feminized, dgaf about marketable genetics or even a name attached to them at all. I’m just trying to take the next step from my first grow last year and keep it as barebones as possible, and I really feel like these companies that sell seeds and grow accessories these days are just gouging the everloving shit out of people because they can’t charge the same exorbitant prices for the bud itself they could 15+ years ago.

This is a funny line.

Baby steps.

Baby steps.

There are reasonably priced seeds out there.

I’d recommend you start with cheap second hand equipment and learn as you go.

Fleur du mal has some mixes where if you buy two packs you get 50 seeds for $50 if you use the $1SEED code.

First off, Welcome to the OG @Lyryclmyrycl
Hang in there, you’ll eventually get a grasp of things. @Foreigner already said it, baby steps.
Hang out here, interact, read, read, read, get your “status” built up a little, and you’ll be able to join in on the “free seed” giveaways, this forum has the most generous, coolest & friendliest members of any forum, without the BS of other forums. Ask a question, get answers, need help, you’ll get help, there is no greater forum out there for this.
As far as “cheap ass seeds” there are no cheap seeds IMO, you’re paying for the work breeders put into producing those seeds.
Now, as far as inexpensive seeds to get you off the ground, send @JohnnyPotseed a DM, he has seeds for $15 a pack, and some :fire: will come out of them.
Once again, welcome to the OG, the Greatest Forum on the Internet!!!

Where you at? I’m sure quite a few of us can get some randos out to you. The “spliff” makes me think UK but talking about dispos/ clubs make me think CA. Hell, I’ve sent to Belgium. And Australia successfully. Hit me in the Dm.

You know what? Send me an address you feel comfortable sharing(in dm) and I’ll send you a couple packs of Bad Dawg. Bad Dawg is the freebie line from Greatlakesgenetics.com and Jeff makes some KILLER crosses.

I echo the comments of the other members!
Send me a DM and I can get something out to you! The only caveat is that hopefully you stick around an immerse yourself in the wonderful community we have here.

I will be forever trying to repay the kindness showed to me by other members here both with tangible items as well as with knowledge.

Welcome to OG @Lyryclmyrycl ! @JohnnyPotseed here on OG has his genetics up at 15$ for a set of 10 seeds! Solid stuff:

https://overgrow.com/t/johnny-potseeds-hall-of-genetics/74873/2303?u=pigeonman

Also @Tonygreen is selling his :fire: on sale RIGHT NOW on his IG account; it’s for :us: only so I can’t jump on it but his sale price is insane.

Otherwise you can’t loose if you end up making a purchase through @Great_lakes_Genetics . They always have sales going on and when you order you get so much for you $$$!!! Solid buisiness. Only hiccup for many is it’s cash/money order only but that doesn’t stop this :canada: ian from sending greenbacks across the boarder!

:v:

EDIT: also @SamwellBB 's Baked Beanz!!! ALL ARE FIRE!!

That’s not how it works lol.

But yes, there’s a lot of overpriced seeds out there. If you need something inexpensive, check out KC Brains. They’ve been around forever and are quite cheap. Like…$15/pack.

I often talk about how the “flood” of information when it comes to growing weed actually makes it more difficult for newbies to sift through the bullshit. Ask 10 growers how to do something and you’ll literally get 9 different answers.

You need very little for outdoor growing. Really just a bag of Jack’s Classic or Miracle Grow, a hose, and a sunny spot. Indoor for a small setup you’re looking at minimum $500 unless you can score a deal on used equipment.

I found $15.00 packs at soaknbeans, they are not a well known breeder, but the plants are decent.
I agree, there is way to much FOMO built into the seed selling side of things.
ALSO, not all seed sellers, just send you the order you made, but pack you up with freebies.
Got a package from GLG, I paid, $45.00 for one, $35.00 for the second one, then the breeder gave me a free pack…AND, then GLG packed in another 4 - 5 seed packs of free beans, So for what for $80.00? FANTASTIC DEAL, all fresh beans.
We just can not lump the entire bean banging industry to say, everything is to expensive.
I do not seek out free, I prefer to pay a fair price, to who did the work, they had costs, and shipping to get them to me.
All the best to ya.

As far as starting out Bare Bones for an indoor grow - you can always use basic over the counter LED light bulbs! I used a fixture made from a multi-bulb socket meant for a vanity. I take the LED bulbs and carefully cut the plastic cover off of them. For circulation - you just need a over-the-counter oscillating desk fan! For soil you can use pretty much any seed starter if you wanted to - but I find what really works, and all you do is top dress once in a while is Happy Frog soil, ($20 for enout to fill 4-5 medium /large planters) plus a bag of Espoma granular Flower-tone Organics which cost about $15 for a 5 lb bag and you only use a few tablespoons per plant! This stuff is also GREAT when putting your plants outdoors! The only equipment/chemicals that IMO are a MUST is a pH meter and set of pH up and down to adjust the water!
Been doing this since 2002…have taught a LOT of folks how to improve their grows…and its why most folks come here…to help each other!! WELCOME…you found the right place!

You are getting some great advice here.

I’ll toss Colorado Sativas into the ring, think they are $20/20 regular seeds.

FDM and Johnny Potseed are also great candidates, already mentioned, just more votes.

For sure you’re in the right place. A lot of people first learned to grow by perusing these forums (or the earlier iteration of OG, that’s where I picked up the basics). No need to spend crazy money either, like people have suggested you can DIY a lot of it in the beginning, and there are reasonably priced quality LED fixtures out there (particularly if you’re handy with basic wiring, but even if it’s off the shelf there are a bunch of quality manufacturers out there at a reasonable price point). Read, search, ask, you’ll pick up tons.

PS: Don’t worry too much if you run into some grumpy people from time to time… so many questions have been asked a thousand times people on occasion get pissy when a question is asked that’s been answered a thousand times… but there are also tons of people perfectly happy to answer the question and point you in the right direction (but using the search function first will garner you some brownie points).

Welcome to the last forum you’ll ever need to find, trust me. Different atmosphere here and totally different mindset. Sounds like you’re sorted out but if you need more beans, or want fems or something hmu I’d be glad to help out

Welcome to OG, @Lyryclmyrycl! Couch jumpers

@TopShelfTrees1 speaks the truth. I have a difficult time imagining a more welcoming site than OG, or a site with more solid growing information. Another thing I really like about OG is this is an active place. Lots of interaction (if that’s what one desires, and I do) with bright people who are knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects.

I second this, even if your an “outdoor only” person, having a controlled area to check out what your sending outside is super valuable, and doesn’t need to be fancy at all.

Exactly!
Starting them inside until they are 12-18’’ at least ensures they are viable, and once you ‘harden them off’ (put them outdoors for a few days in a shaded spot to adjust to temps and light) they are more likely to ‘make it’ than seed/seedlings!
Hell- for seeds, I’ve used a clamp-light with 1 LED Floodlight bulb (cut off the plastic cover) to do a whole tray!
