Deficiency or Toxicity - You Decide

I’d suggest moving your lights back up. They obviously do not like the change. The bleaching of the tops while the underside remains green seems like light burn. Looks a little like mag def too but I’d guess light stress, except they’re not really tacoing.

For reference my blurple cant get any closer than 18”-20” - it’s also a POS

Edit: on closer inspection they are also tacoing

I’ve bleached top buds white with HPS lights before, and they didn’t look like this especially from that distance. Can quantum boards really be that much more efficient in producing light and, for that matter, if your blurple needs to stay that far away - what’s the common denominator between it and my QBs?

I added CaliMagic, after mixing Jacks 321. Is this too much Cal Nit and Mag Nit, maybe, for the ratio balance? Or do high end LEDs really cause some plants to drink that much Cal Mag?

I’d say that is 100% the issue. Whether that is due to lockout or an actual deficiency, I can’t say.

Any time my plants show signs like this, I mix a teaspoon or two (per gallon) of epsom salts into my water or feed solution. The fact that it appears to be a reaction to the light could have something to do with the fact that plants need more mag under LEDs. I don’t know why, but I have read it many times and it seems to play out that way. Maybe moving the LEDs closer just exacerbated this need for more mag?

I can’t speak specifically to the QB but I get the feeling the manufacturers may be fudging their data. For example it may deliver 900ppfd at 18” but that’s not so helpful if you have to stay at 24”

Edit - my blurple specs say 12” in flower. Never going to happen.

I’ll hop over to the 321 Jacks thread and see if anyone there has input about mixing in Cal Mag and how it affects the balance, but feel free to chime in here too.

I use a cal/mag product every time I feed, as anyone should. However, when a mag deficiency shows up, epsom salts are the solution (IMO). Extra doses of cal/mag doesn’t seem to get the job done, and too much calcium can be a bad thing.

EDIT: In the past, every grow I would get some signs of mag deficiency under my LEDs and the epsom salts always fixed it. It got to the point where I expected it (this was all despite the fact that I was using normal amounts of cal/mag). This time around, I added epsom salts when I mixed up my amended soil. I have not seen any mag issues yet and I am about 4 weeks from harvest.

Epsom salts are built into Jacks 321. It’s the 1 in the 3-2-1 combination. I could certainly up the amount to something like 3-2-2 or flush with them alone.

I know nothing about the Jack’s nutes so I cannot advise. I probably should have refrained from posting here. I use all organic nutes in amended soil and it “just works”. I wish you the best of luck, brother. It is sad to watch people struggle with this stuff.

Identification of toxic or deficient plants doesn’t change because of the grow method, I think.

It may change the solution - and especially comparing organic/soil to hydro/coco.

I wish I could do soil beds but I live on the 4th floor, without an elevator, and I can’t just lug bags of soil up all those stairs on the regular.

I have to sneak my soil in on the hotel style dolly covered in tarps so my neighbors won’t find out.

As it is, I order coco from Amazon and get it shipped in a nondescript box. lol.

Shit’s heavy.

Mag lockout, drop the pH to 5.7.

Thank you, sir.
