Designing New Grow Space

You were talking efficiency and the only way to measure that is cost-wise efficiency. Of course there may be other advantages like heat…

No. Efficiancy is photons to heat. Hps puts out more heat in watts then light. Thus being less efficiant.

Exactly. And that translates into dollar costs.

Otherwise I can just get more power and more light and get same results.

Efficiency is not some value itself… The only result of it is dollar savings.

Ah i see. Well. Look at it like this. Hps puts out more heat then light. Why would you want that? That means you spend more money getting rid of that heat. XD and as the bulbs get older you get more and more heat with less light. oh and if you put more power in then your costs go up to try n compare with the led? Why up the power when you can use the same power and get The light you want?

Son in laws hearing aid battery…$400 bucks. Less expensive was 1.99, last longer, charges faster, was 398 bucks less…we will take the less expensive, better route (-; and brother, your using the wrong cheap shit paper…lmao

 Good point. We can agree on that! If heat is issue then that is very good reason to use more efficient light source…

I’ve been probably very lucky cause I haven’t got any issues with heat (all growing spaces had access to cool outside air) and I didn’t need any AC. Just ventilation (400 m3 per hour for single lamp up to 1500 m3 per hour for 4 lamp setup - 2400W) was enough to cool the space. Of course I prefer lights on in the night when you can get cool air in…

Theres a diff between ripping someone off and being less expensive alsoXD and yeah i use the top quality 3 ply ultra soft for my butthole. Never ever will i resort to noname asswipeXD lmfao!!

Ye dawg. Hids are great forsure. Amazing for the price. You can get away with a 400w hid setup for a year or two no problem. then youll have the money to build a sick led if you wanted to switch. You should check out the new quantum boards. They are really good. Amazing light output. Fuck all for heat. Costs like 150 for a quantum light kit from HLG. They are about 2 inches thick so they work great for small spaces! Now. Its brand new technology made to pull the least amount of watts possible. Its not gonna yeild like a 600…yet. but i feel in the next year or two the quantum board will destroy cobs even.

I’m an HPS user, and am on my 2nd grow with the original equipment. I bought thee cheapest HPS I could find b/c at the time, I was near flat ass broke. HERE is that dirt cheap HID, and when I bought it, the price was like $190. I am now after reading this thread considering building me a nice COB light. I am very happy that I can choose between color temps. It seems that nearly all HPS bulbs are 2,200k or less, unless you go with dual spec, in which case it’s still 2200 with a second inner bulb that burns at 6500k. That seams a bit archaic in design and I’m surprised human engineering isn’t more advanced than that. Another thing about the cobs that tweaks my curiosity is that it’s comprised of multiple light emitters. I just watched a DIY build on YouTube where the guy made a 4 light bar. What I would do if I had all those materials is cut that long heatsink into 4 small pieces, and give 1 lamp per heatsink, then I could put that unit on some form of retractable leg and have the ability to move each COB to different angles from day to day if I chose. This would IMO make up for diminished penetration by allowing the grower to focus light where he sees fit. A duct fitting like THIS could be used to tie the COB into existing ventilation, but then again it’s probably easier to let the minimal amount of heat the COB produces radiate out into the grow, and just suck the heat off the top with the odors. On another note, I bet a COB canopy is much easier to photograph, or takes better photos to word it another way.

My gavita was about five when I bought it I’d say ur abought right with ur price but mine actually came with a bulb so grow shops def throw promos

When a cob can beat the gavita I told @growmau5 I’ll switch my setup

i bet you could beat the gavita i you built a cob setup:)

I’m color blind and am not building a light myself lolsounds like a recipe for disaster if I can just str8 up but a cob or led that will without a doubt bet the gavita I’ll buy it but I don’t want the bitch to be as costly as a nextlight

Vivosun I had An switched to hortilux won’t ever go back vivosun kinda sucks I wouldn’t ever put trust in a 9$ bulb to give me what I get with my gavita an hortilux bulb I would trust a 9$ bulb to have a shity spectrum but to each there own happy growing homie

My gavita is double eneded not a norm hps

You dont need to see color to build a lightXD but timber grow lights has what you want.

The wires are not color coated like most electronics

I could see how that can get confusing quickly. Gray wire, to the other slightly less gray wire.:confounded:

You can use any color or shade you want:)

i can see colors but they confuse me i’ll see red its actually orange i’ll see blue its purple i see green its brown that is the situation i deal with
