You are absolutely correct that I won’t be using hot sauce again. I will likely just hit them hard with a pesticide as soon as i get them and hope they have a clean slate.
Additionally, don’t believe everything you read on the internet. Save the hot sauce for your wings.
From my personal outdoor growing experiences, I will say that hot pepper solutions DO have their place as a strong deterrent. However, I’ve found it deters chewing animals/insects better than it does piercing insects, when it comes to cannabis. Hot pepper solutions will keep rabbits/deer from eating your plants, but won’t do much for whiteflies or spider mites.
The university study that @PlantShepherd submitted is more about trials with agricultural crops, ie, cotton, broccoli, fruit trees, however, that’s not to say that great progress is not being made in creating natural products that can effectively treat agriculture insect issues.
Back to topic.
I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, so I’ll mention it.
When you bring ANY plant/cutting or clone home, quarantine it away from your other plants until you’ve had a chance to look it over carefully and make damn sure there is nothing wrong with it before introducing a plant into your grow. Introducing a tainted plant to a clean grow can be devastating to the grow as a whole and all your hard work may be lost. Always quarantine new plants for a couple of weeks, so they can be evaluated properly.
The aloe suggestion is a good one.
The active ingredient, commonly known as salicylic acid, is a phenolic phytohormone that not only boosts the plants immune/pathogen response, it also helps plants as a whole and does many different things, including roles in drought protection, photosynthesis, growth/development, ion uptake/transport and transpiration.
Salicylic acid also acts as a natural rooting hormone that is found in many plants (willow is popular) and it’s the main ingredient in aspirin. 1 or 2 regular uncoated aspirin dissolved in a gallon of water will boost the salicylic acid in any plant and do wonderful things for it!
