Imma have to place an order soon, I need one of those awesome wolf shirts…
Anyone run his Wat Pho? Feel like great possibility for finding a sexy a5haze/nl5haze pheno in there… SSH/Williams Wonder x a5haze/thai bx…

aah Ha, WatPho, He needs to stock more of the XXL Aqua, I keep missing out.
I haven’t been able to play in the retail game much, but the one that caught my eye while just speed reading the list earlier was The White x Dragon Energy.
I can dream! Things may pick up this year and bless me with some work. I’ll turn the wages into Doc seeds. I have a few on the wish list. Thanks for the tip. peace
Sorry to hear things are slow for ya.
It’ll pick up
Here’s the 3 Purple Unicorn x Dragon soul males still going.
I didn’t plan on keeping any males to chuck this time around because I don’t have anything going I think will compliment them.
But they all smell so good on the stem rub.
All of them Cary the pinesol smell that opens your nose. 1 has a grapefruit background smell. 1 has a lemon background and the last one has a candied background.
So I think I’m going to take cuts and play with them later.
mmm i think i like that first one the most, but the third one is pretty tempting too. All 3 look good, but yeah ^^
Thanks for sharing
Was thinking about f2ing them but the lone female isn’t that promising as she doesn’t have nearly as powerful or pleasing a smell as the males.
She more like very faint pinesol and very faint rubber not to much else and I as I said very muted so far.
I’ll reserve judgment until she’s done but I think I’ll end up looking for a better female in the future
Can’t go by looks solely should be the last thing you look at
need looks for trait selection and identifying phenos/lines. Branch and plant structure, leaf blades, serrations, bud structure, all these are looks and 100% the first thing I’m looking at. For males the only other thing you have is stem rub. Honestly none of this matters for males, you need to look at the offspring to make a determination, but i’m still looking at everything they’re bringing. If for nothing else then when you do breed, you can physically see the differences from the parents in the offspring…
Like, If it smells great and grows/looks like like shit, there’s a 99% chance i’m not keeping or breeding with it.
if it looks great and smells like shit, there’s an 80% chance I might actually do something with it.
Unless it’s something you developed yourself most hybrid off spring are all over the place.
Terrible way to choose
As opposed to what though? What else should you use to judge by then?
Smoke your males.
Smell them give them a rub
Then go by structure yadda yadda yadda.
If they don’t have the first 2 from the get go aint worth the time to put trash out there.
Could definitely see smoking the males as an option to tell potency. Or if they’re frosty or not ^^
The stem rub, to me, is a misnomer. It’s like trying to divine potency from leaf shape I’ve found it to only really be good for identifying parent leaners in a line I’ve made as I’ve seen 10 different bud smells/structures on 10 plants all with the same exact stem rub smell… The only thing that was the same between the 10 buds was they all had a spicy scent in the back half to go along with whatever the main smell that each had. I mean maybe it’s just too faint of a difference to tell, but its the same exact stem rub to my nose. Obviously hand washing and whatnot between rubbing
Maybe i’m missing something there, idk
So I guess what im saying is, all things being equal… i’m picking the best looking males for my breeding project before i’m bothering with one’s that look worse. Unless the worse one matches my keeper pheno, I might use that initially instead of one that looks better but doesn’t match the girl. Obviously need to test the progeny too before chopping any of them… And i’m making note of every little thing about the parents too. As just like the stem rub, it’s an identifier to use later down the line ^^
Grow out your Males take cuts of each, when they finish flower, smell em taste em, pick the very best one.
Fixed it for you.
I won’t be smoking any males.lol
I will say that if a male is from a line that’s known to have a powerful/signature smell and he doesn’t have that on stem rub or even better fills any given space with that smell then I’m not going to use him.
Sure there are other factors to consider but if he doesn’t meet that one what’s the point of moving further with him.
To put it another way if I’m breeding Strawberry smelling plants well then I’m not breeding the ones that don’t smell like Strawberry no matter how good they look or how they grow. I can select those traits from plants that also smell like Strawberry.
Ive ran a bunch of Doc D. There is no “strongest strain” because of pheno variation. Potency/strength is also completely subjective. What defines “strong”? Heavy body high? Brain scrambling heady high that makes you trip over your own feet? Near-psychedelic effects that make you feel like you are walking through a video game? Ive had them all and they are all “strong” in different ways.
Dragon Temple was generally light/uplifting, great for daytime smoke, but it threw out one pheno was was devastatingly potent. Half a gram of this stuff led to the same level of high as a gram of my Black Energy keeper pheno. I didnt keep it because it really had no utility besides being potent and it wasnt feasible for medical production.
My Bandaid Haze IX 3.0 keeper cut is probably some of the strongest cannabis that I have ever consumed. Small doses bitch-slap your brain for about 20 minutes, then organization mode sets in and you renovate your whole house. Heavy doses will leave you in a state where you feel like you are in the twilight zone, or in a VR video game. It sorta disconnects your brain from your hands in a cool way.
My cut of Mullum/Oaxacan x Beastie Boy was basically a knockout strain. I let my dog out, smoked it, fell into a semi-awake coma for 2 hours and forgot my dog outside. We have a fenced in yard so its all good, but man… That stuff absolutely slapped me. It also caused my ears to ring and colors were more intense/saturated, but this went away after cure.
Black Energy has an interesting effect where it is physically sedating but slightly mentally stimulating. It makes you aware of just how high you are which is pretty cool. That stimulating effect sorta dials down the perceived potency a bit, but its still strong stuff.
Genius Thai x Dragon Energy was potent in a different way. Uplifting, mentally a bit foggy, but stimulating enough to get me out of the house to walk the dog. My keeper pheno also brings pulsating red/green flashing rings in my peripheral vision. These effects have been consistent over many uses, and my patients have reported the same experiences.
The gene pools that doc works with are so deep, there is extreme potency in everything. Id focus less on what sounds potent and more on what effects you are trying to achieve.
A5/Thai will have 95% uplifting haze/thai effects, expect mental stimulation and surreal feelings during the highs. Shorter flowering phenos will have more thai effects from the dad and will have slight mental fog, longer flowering phenos will transition to more A5 dominance and will get cleaner up until 12-14 weeks where things got a bit racy.
Dragon Energy brings mental stimulation, but to a lesser extent than A5/Thai. Id say that most progeny have high utility, multiple use cases. Think day on the beach, but in bud form. Expect sour notes in most pheno, resulting in bud that may be a little difficult for those trying to use cannabis for deep sleep. Strong outliers will obviously be thrown out, so YMMV.
Beastie Boy will fool most growers. The short flowering phenos are typically pretty devastating. The Mullum/Oaxacan x Beastie Boy had some short flowering phenos that had great haze structure/smells, but the Beastie Boy drive the high. It had me thinking that I found a short flowering Haze C dominant plant that would deliver uplifting effects. Nope. All the early bud was a complete knockout. Longer flowering phenos leaned more towards the bandaid/mullum/oaxacan and had uplifting effects. But they still seemed to carry that afgooey/appy note on the back end.
Of course, YMMV. These are just my personal experiences.
Ah yes there is Doc told me what his strongest is, known Doc for one helluva longtime.
Take it up with him
Nice write up thou
In my experience, stem rub doesnt really mean anything useful. Early stem rubs can lead you down a path of erroneous ID of future expressions in a cross. Same thing for smelling early resin on females. Different terpenes will develop at different times. Just because a SSH x Dragon Energy cross has bright tropical fruit notes on stem rub/week 5 resin, doesnt indicate how it will express in week 9 of flower. All my Passionfruit Hashplant phenos smell like cedar/fruit, but I know most will fade to hashplant funk/pepper/oily rag smells near the end.
Bright terpenes will usually be detected on stem rub and early resin samples, example being my PF hashplant I discussed above. The deeper/more complex terpenes will start to develop after week 6 or so, and will continue developing as the flower moves towards senescence. For things like Dragon Energy, you wont be able to tell what ends up the most sour until the very end of flower. Pine will develop like 75% through flower.
As @OleReynard said, plant structure cannot be linked to terpenes/cannabinoids/high unless you are intimately familiar with the males or females in the crosses that you are running. Best thing we can do is grow out the females next to the males, ID specific traits that seem to be “linked”, select males based on your female observations, and run to progeny to see if you were right. Plants are way more complicated than this so… Good luck simplifying such a complex process into structural cues.
Id just pick the most vigorous/resinous male that best matches my choice female’s physical characteristics. Or if I wanted to nail it in one try, STS reversal. With reversals you already know how those plants express in female form. Now you just have to determine how true-breeding your reversed females are. And hopefully your female pollen isnt sterile. Another pain in the ass process that not many people ever think about!
