Down-Under-Ground

My comment on here has been long overdue, my apologies. I have been following along closely though, since the original post. I love the theme you chose and must say, you took the “underground” to a whole 'nother level!

Love the setup and the lights too! Looking forward to the wild outdoor there as well. I’ll be chillin out in the bush with some kangaroos, waiting to jump out to catch more of the fun. Best wishes on your grows and eager to see more.

Keep holdin it down for the Underground!! You’re killin it!

Ps. I’ve been wondering where all my kids nerf bullets been ending up…didn’t know they shot em that far!!

I’m headed to the ‘big smoke’ today to see if I can rouse up a cheap top feed drip system… I have a plan for simplicity that’s easy on the wallet let’s see if it works.

I used to buy them by the hundred I think Mr 10 is just about over that phase of his life now hopefully.

Thanks for dropping in.

I need to get some more ducting to set up the bends. I just have two tents but the light coming out of the veg tent scares me a little.

I just made this top drip setup. Pump with poly pipe riser connected to 90 and then this poly piece with open 1/4 coming out of it. With yours being bigger making a loop should help keep equal pressure. Your stuff is probably 16 or 17mm I think is what I saw at stores here. I brought all mine from the states.

Same setup as I am thinking with some corrugated polycarbonate roofing into a gutter for return to the reservoir. I’m using 13mm Polypipe with 4mm runners.

Ah yes my oldest just turned 10, my other ones (3 and 4 years younger) still love those things.

This what it looks like in the crib when they bust em out, lol

I’m not sure why I ever think I can go to either the hardware store or a hydroponics shop and get away with it cheaply “oh look shiny things”.

So I bought 16 x 8 litre cloth pots and 4 smaller 3 litre ones to test out none of which was in the budget, an extra bag of Hydroton and a new pump just in case I need a spare.

Then I had to drop in to a tractor shop I saw on my travels … needed some hydraulic oil

Then I couldn’t go past the car parts shop … brake pads for spare

I’m not going to say too much about the hardware store but even holding back I blew out the budget by factors of Jesus bloody Christ.

So after all that I forgot to buy framing for the tables so now I have to dodgy something up which I really don’t like to do.

At least I remembered to fill the cans of petrol and diesel.

Bi monthly trip to town done!

Hey Pedro

I can see why it’s bi monthly to the big smoke, you are a fair way out hey. I gather you have some smaller shops a bit closer to home??

Cheers Johnny

Yep there are all the normal small shops in the closest town but for bigger purchases and more specialised stuff I have to head for the coast.

The eldest kids are down in Tassie fending for themselves and Mr 10 is loving it here having swapped all day YouTube, Netflix etc for nature, exploring and learning to ride his motorbike.

His school is less than 50 students in total!

Sounds like a great new lifestyle for him. Good to get him of the electronics and enjoying the great outdoors.

I will love to see the out come.

I will be sure to document the build but I need to come up with stands for it yet. Either breaking down old pallets or I will have to buy timber or aluminium framing, if I can hold out it will be the latter.

Good luck making a new home :+1: We did the same thing 3 years ago, sold our stuff, found some land with a dilapidated house on it, (we are on 10 acres, boonies…but we do have cell service), paid cash, quite my job, and said Fuck off…we are out :+1: Absolutely, hands down the best decision we have ever made. Should had done it years ago…lol

Its scary, but oh so worth it :joy:

And with our home and property paid for, it feels like i am semi retired now :scream:

It took my old eyes a bit to find the frogs they should help with insects . Nice setup we had a root cellar / bomb shelter years ago we made with block under our barn .

Haha yep feels like I’m retired and working more than I ever have, it’s worth the effort and every property improvement is like money in the bank.

I also wish I could have done it years/decades ago but my wife never wanted to move from the suburbs.

Yes they camoflauge very well into the soil after digging their rear end in, hopefully they will eat any moths that might make their way in.

I am sure you are using the resources around you for building you homestead. If you need to bounce ideas off anyone, PM me. We have built a 5000 square foot house out of pallets and dumpster diving.
That is all free pallet wood.
