Dumme's Aero-Soil-Aquaponics adventure

Ahh ok, in my setup there were passive “bubblers” (bucket filled with clay pebbles and airstone to pump air) on the way from aquarium to grow table to give bacteria more surface to live on. What are your thoughts on this? Is it needed when going aero aquaponics?

That would work, I use K3 media for that in my bio-filter. When you’re combining Aqua and Aero, the more filters the better.

The goal with aquaponics is to have your pH & nutrients in an acceptable range for the plants to flower, while still maintaining the health of the fish. Yes, :slight_smile: my fish are alive and healthy. All my nutrient levels are much less than conventional hydroponic solutions, like many organic nutrients are set to. My pH is set between 6.4 and 6.8 to maximize uptake and allow the fish to thrive, after acclimation.

Some of the Shubunkins came to greet me tonight, so I thought I’d snap a picture.

New strains, Trainwreck, Sour Diesel, Gold Leaf, successfully germinated, and now it’s time to sprout. A few more Gold Leaf and Green Crack still need a couple of days for the tails to grow a bit (dish). That’s AK-48(clones) in the corner.

woooo cobs. you make em youself??

Yes and no. Yes, because I built the track assembly via 1/8in angled aluminum. I got it at a local machine company. The wire and shrink wrap came from Lowes. I always have 100% silicone on hand (safe for fish). The rivet gun came from Ace Hardware (also local). No, because the heat sinks came from the same company as the cobs and controller, so I didn’t have to do the drilling.

Its not enough for what I want, so she will be paired with the same system with a different Kalvin rating. These are 3500k, so it’s sister will be 3000k.

Basicly a diyXD if you go with the 3000k you will lose 11% efficiancy over the 3500k

OK So the 55th parallel theory is out. The problem is (I think) spectral. So I sprang for a couple grow lites. The poor dear was stretching so badly she may have trouble. I propped her long self up with a pipe cleaner. Got two liights on her and the PH is 6.6…finally. Two fish dead so far. If I do this again I’d use cloud fish. Not as dirty as feeders. But, hey this is just for fun. The builder came by yesterday and we talked about the green house. It will be 10 X16. Very excited for spring time in Washington! Hey this is a shout out to everyone one: Thanks for the help. If you’re ever up this way in the spring give a holler I’ll give you a good cup of coffee in the green house!

Here is the little lady standing up and away from her pipe cleaner support. No if I can see how to add a photo I’ll do that too.

Should I put mirrors behind the plant?

@Greengardner1,
No mirrors. White flat paint is fine.

In the first, you can see where I was rough when I pulled a branch off, low on the stem, but there’s no stem rot luckily.

The first three are Green Crack and the last is an old AK-48 clone.
