Anybody use a label printer, or considering getting one?
This isn’t new news, and it’s not new practice either (none of it, not even the amazon review trick). But I thought I’d share this “info” about the people who run the Dymo brand/company and their shitty tactics.
Several people covered this, but I’m gonna share EEVblog’s video(s) on it. Link 1 Link 2
Edit: Just adding a couple links for Louis Rossmann, because he’s a big proponent/supporter of “Right to Repair” and all that ‘jazz’. Link 1
I considered sending them an email, just to say how shitty they are. But I figured sharing this here would be better…or worse, from their point of view.
I’ve heard of, and seen, the amazon review switcharoo before. But I’ve not yet seen this type of shit (the amazon stuff) from a huge “brand” like Dymo. It’s not surprising at all. Replace a well received, generally “good” product with a different product, that you know is…certainly “less than good” (garbage/undesirable), and all the positive reviews for the original review stay there…as if they were written for the new product.
Oh, ok. Cool. Good to know. Thanks.
The point of this topic was just to say “don’t buy a Dymo brand label printer”. Avery paper won’t work. Only their toilet paper will work. …Shit, that just gave me a great idea…
This is not a new tactic and becomes more common every day. Dymo makes good quality machines, if having to use their media is a problem for folks then they should just not buy the new Dymo printers. If folks stop buying they will be forced to adjust. If they don’t adjust its because there are more people just accepting it. That’s how I do things anyway, if I have a problem with a product, I don’t buy it.
I am currently certified for warranty repair on Zebra printers, just did the exam to renew for 2 years a few weeks back. They make some solid products.
they sure do! been using and selling the tlp3742 to customers for 20+yrs! dirt cheap (printing cost) when you get into the thermal transfer. congratulations on your certification.
Thanks bud, I have many, many certs. The Zebra one has to be redone every 2 years. They use a ton of Zebra printers in the hospitals for labels and wristbands. I also manage their printer/copier fleet here but we have changed them over to a standard HP brand for the Laser stuff. Currently sitting here working on a Fujitsu tablet, lol.
Oh, ok. Cool. It’s a real shitty thing to do.
If a company “gets away with it”, then it’s a good (business) decision, though, from their perspective.
Just read what you wrote, out loud, with a sarcastic tone of voice. Haha.
It’s hard to tell a tone via text, often times. I guess I meant to say “no big deal” in place of “who cares”. (Which is the more common reaction from those who just accept and put up with anything and everything).
Plus the monkey emojii thing threw me off. I get ya now.
