EarthBox vs. RainScience Bag

I looked at the automated watering, with the junior it may be something a little more useful during the stretch. So far with the original, 2 gallon res, I only watered about every 5 days or so, depending on the temp and humidity. It takes longer to ph the water, than to water the boxes…lol

I load my boxes with amended soil. Add some additional nutes in the trench. I also top dress with bas craft blend, build a bloom and some ewc.

The best part about these is you can do it how you want. I would be careful what you add in the reservoir. Certain things I do avoid that I will put in my soil.

The downside is you must hook it up to a spigot. I figure if you put it on a water pump it should do the trick as well though… My thoughts were to make a set it and forget it (besides the occasional top amendment); and the auto system should accomplish that.

Can you use super soil in the octopots @Joker?

It will for sure. I thought about it and was going to use a pump and timer. For me, it was pretty easy growing on the watering side, so I decided against it.

I had to water the Junior version every day from the stretch on. It is less than a gallon reservoir. Since the original is 2 gallons, I am hoping to not have to do that.

I was looking at a knockoff w/o a top. I was thinking garbage bag and bungee cords as well.

Have 3 Juniors going now. On the left is a Pure Vida. The middle and right are Monster Banner.

Very nice! I will be trying to get a few of mine up and running today. I have to clean and redo my tent. I will hopefully add in my smart plugs and get that tent’s environment on some automation to test.

I think Jeremy from Buildasoil on youtube in season 2 did a comparison grow these vs 5 gal pots vs planter beds vs bags

He did do grows in various grow medians. He was helping growers in smaller pots, and comparing how much easier bigger pots are to grow in.

He has done 2 seasons with an Earthbox. I enjoy his videos.

I switched to an earthpot in my small tent after watching his series. I’ll never flower in anything smaller ever again.

This grow has been a breeze. If there’s no water down the tube, I fill it up. Other than that, just some top dresses because I like to fuck with stuff. I want to get more earthboxes to try a couple autos outdoors on my patio

I agree they make it pretty easy on the watering part. That was one of the reasons for this thread was to maybe help some new growers take the watering part out of the equation.

Glad to hear you like yours too. Post any pictures of it here if you want.

Hey @Old-Ron I like this grow a lot. I planned on testing this (earth box v pot) but you did a great job and I’ll skip this test just move to others with earth boxes.
One question I do have is why plant to one side rather then the center of the earth boxes?
Thanks :+1:

I guess to make it easier to stick your head over the tube

2 different phenos of Purple Afghan Hashplant by Bodhi. The one dominating is from seed and the other is from clone

Hey @OldGator thanks. @imstinky is right. I do it to try and keep the plant away from the tube. Just my own preference. I do not go all the way back just to give the roots some extra space.

Those are very nice looking. Interesting how the one from seed is dominant. I have been growing out clones so far. The 3 I have in the Juniors this time is from seed. I wondered if having a tap root would be more beneficial.

Just my guess, but I would say having a tap root in an Earthbox is even more beneficial due to having that fat firehose to drink up as much as it could get.

But I could maybe also see a problem if that tap root got too girthy for the holes and choked itself out.

I’m 95% sure my next round in this earthbox will be a Mephisto Canna-Cheese so I’ll have another taproot. But I’m gonna stick to one plant at a time in this thing from now on.
