EarthBox vs. RainScience Bag

Ah ok! I couldn’t get my head around the volume of soil / size of your plants and Sativas at that.

Thank you

Does anyone run their Earthbox with cover crop over using the plastic “mulch” by chance? I’m curious if one is superior to the other mainly because slipping on the plastic on the juniors is a tad annoying :joy:

I do not but have a friend that does. She grows some nice plants. I think she may water slightly more than having the plastic mulch

Everyone usually runs the covers, but my wife @Pluckyevil is running an EB Jr. with full cover crop in her fairy garden grow. Working out well so far.

Last question on these. Are cramming four Earthbox JR’s into my 2x4 asking for trouble? Or is three the much smarter move ?

3 is the smarter move. 4 may fit side by side, but once the plants start growing, they will run out of room.

Also, if a plant has an issue, you want to be able to access it.

Just my opinion. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for the input. It’s one of those things where you ask, knowing the answer :joy:

Lol…I do that all the time at work and home. That is how you find out if they are paying attention…

Ya I easily filled my 2x4 with 3 plants in my 2x4 bed. 4 sounds much better to me, but if you are trying to make them yield, it will be a battle heh. My last EB run I had to take pounds of material off the plants because they were overgrowing my tent so bad.

My logic is I’m running earthnox jr’s so I may as well let them grow and veg out a fair amount while amending as I go. I just need to figure out how best do that so they’re not deficient . 4 fits , but perhaps it’s best to let them stretch out a bit with a trelis. This way the humidifier fits comfortably.

Got some good things happening under the “hood”

Covercrops / companion plants have many benefits that aren’t there when using a plastic cover.
It also looks so much more interesting, having a divesity of species flowering, it’s much nicer to look at than a boring black bag. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Some do cover crops. Most ways are good to grow in an Earthbox. I like the mulch cover because you can pile the top feed up and let it go. I also feel you water less. Lot just depends on the time you have to spend gardening.

I’m curious if there is any difference in plant outcome with one plant in the jr’s , or two in the EB? I’d like to upgrade the reservoir size given how fast the flowers drink in flower.

I have only run one per box regardless of which EB I use @Chickencutlets. I have a friend that runs 2 in Earthbox Originals. One plant seems to be dwarfed. Seems one can dominate the box over the other. She had one herm on her too. She could not get it out before a few branches got pollinated.

Their fast drinking in flower will eventually slow down. I have consistently pulled 5+ ounces out of a junior. Had a Jack Herer that gave me 7.5 ounces in a one.

You will probably have the same drinking rate with 2 in an Original.

Just my opinion.

This was my fear. If only they made a city picker slim pickins box with a larger reservoir ( say 2 gallons) .

Did you find in the EB Jr the roots get bound a bit and there’s a separation from the root/ soil a bit? I have top feeder roots and think they may be too small. I may need a larger SIP and am considering something like the emsco start pickin that uses 3/4 cubic feet of soil.

I didn’t have any issues like that. The feeder roots on top were not big, but did the job. Plants grow large in my jrs. Roots were everywhere in the bottom when I cleaned it out.

Why do you think there is a problem?
