It’s the opposite here in the UK. Felt is around 25% cheaper than rubber. People always go for the cheapest option. They don’t think about the longevity/lifespan or the health and safety and danger factor of actually laying the felt.
I roofer friend of mine used to wear rigger boots with his pants tucked inside them. One day while carrying a bucket of hot tar it caught onto the ladder and tipped up. It filled his boot. He lost part of his heel and a couple of toes.
Legit made me wince reading that… most I’ve seen by my own eye on site has been somebody slicing through their palm with a utility knife he severed 3 tendants an then a lad with a chop saw had his hand on the wood started the blade and didn’t move his hand but moved the blade into the back of his hand an the chop saw I would say was the more forgiving of the two purely because of the safety stop.
What actually annoys me is people moan ohh can’t do this an that health and safety because sometimes it is madness but the other stuff is legit there to save you being injured. Like for instance that tar could have been winched up. But for little jobs you’re not going to hire scaffold and hire a winch
An old roomate was a marine diesel mechanic/engineer & a co-worker fell onto re-bar, impaling himself through the stomach…guy got up & drove to the ER & kept it a secret so he wouldn’t get drug tested. Because he smoked weed.
“Don’t Be A Hero”
If you add a wench hire and various other un needed stuff onto the price of a job people complain it’s too expensive.
The latest one that pisses me right off is they want photos of before and after of the work. I’m a roofer. If I drop my phone while taking a picture who the hell will pay for a new one??
Haha I’ve has that before as well because they’re terrified of going up they want proof it’s been done but can’t physically get themselves up the ladder
And I know bro majority of people expect it done by ladder LOL I had a customer before that expected me to be up and down a 3 tier ladder to point the brickwork of a house to avoid the £300+ scaff bill told them there’s no fluffin chance. This is actually a reason of why I started shottin I can’t be arsed with people who think they can afford a job, pay for materials and then shaft you when jobs done. Not for me anymore. Just helps fill the gaps where work isn’t there
Pointing has to be the most monotonous job ever if I had a £1 for every mile I’ve done I’d have retired in my early 30s
Haha. His new nickname is “Spike”
It would have taken someone with a lot more balls than I’ve got to be able to lift himself of a spike like that and still manage to drive himself to hospital. I think most people would end up passing out with sheer shock.
Given the guy telling the story was a tough & leathery meathead ogre(& nice guy), I’d expect his crewmates to be fairly tough too. He thought it was foolish but it was union work & he’d have lost his job for being a pothead.
Get a helicopter drone & deduct it from your business costs/taxes.
Great for bidding estimates too…saves your tired ass.
They cost a fortune. Not stable and the UK are cracking down on them after a few close encounters with airplanes and having to re route them.
All of them are looking great! Damn that GSC is a big gal
She’s the oldest plant in the greenhouse @cdnBuddy. She’s only in a 3 litre pot. I’m expecting the other 2 to be much much bigger as they are both in 11 litre fabric pots and are around 3 weeks behind her. I need to try and get a little air movement in the greenhouse so they sway a little as the stems are not as thick as I’d have liked them to be.
Did the SourLifesaverXRCherryBerry survive your treatment?
Yep but something has been chewing on one of the leafs on one of them @cannabissequoia. They are growing really well other than that
If you have some of that toilet/kichen ‘see-thru’ curtains stuff ( like a white mesh material.) tear some up and stick a few holes in your tent and stick patches of your terraline ( i think it’s called here./ see thru curtain )- and you’ll have some air-flow and it’ll catch some wee nasties … just a thought bro.
The bigger gsc is looking good and the rest will probably do well too , do you not train any of the auto’s , why not tie one down to the side of your pot and see if you can get a few cola’s from the one?!
Good luck with this years outdoor activities, (lol) at least you KNOW they’ll finish in time ,
Have a good one mate …
Gaz
Old net curtain would maybe work but I’d rather have something like an aluminium mesh @Gaz29. I’d cut a square out of the side of the plastic and frame it out with some roofing batten then staple the mesh to it.
No I gave up on training a few grows back. The scrogg was a total nightmare from start right through to harvest mate fuck that amount of work for maybe an oz or two extra. I’ve better things to do with my time and work has really picked up for some reason.
The way I look at it is whatever the outside plants give me is worth the price of the greenhouse, seeds and compost. All the auto flower seeds I got for free from the @skunk24.com and @killabeez-seedbank competitions. The greenhouse was a ridiculously cheap £40 and the compost was £5 for 50 litres and I bought 4 bags. All in all I’ve spent maybe £60. So if I scrape an oz from every plant in it I’ll still have more than halved the cost if I’d have bought it locally.
Maybe try covering the floor, plastic over the “turf”; You’ll have bugs forever coming up there. It’ll also prevent soil trans-evaporating humidity into the greenhouse.
even bugs know my shit is good!
Yeah I’ve got some thick pond liner laying around here somewhere. I may put that down and stick a few flag stones in there
What size bit of mesh you need?
