This is the reason I won’t go back to Jamaica. EVERYONE has their hand out. For money. And when you don’t give they flip you off and swear at you.
Like you, I am not “down on the poor”, but these people are a pretty shitty culture.
And it doesn’t have to be that way. Millions of dollars come from the tourist industry alone. There were four cruise ships docked when we went. Money just never makes it to where it’s needed the most. Just like the US.

Some place are really bad with the rich/poor divide. The better places are more integrated.

I noticed it in Jamaica too. And the Dominican was quite bad.

I really enjoyed Cayman Island. Seemed like everyone was the same there. Poor and rich alike. Beautiful country and I will go back some day.

Barbados was pretty bad too which I found surprising. Especially after dark.

Another place I’ve never returned to.

Last time I was there folks kept asking if my shoes were for sale?!

I like countries where I can go practically anywhere I want, with my family or myself, and not have to worry about anything. Its why we’ve gone to Costa Rica 7 or 8 times, and Cuba a handful. Sure there can be the odd bad experience, same with in Canada. But good people for the most part.

Yes I like a simile degree of safety and freedom. Even in sketchy places with a little know how you won’t have any problems.

Costa Rica is nice though.

As long as you don’t try to buy cocaine in dark alleys you’re probably ok.

What they meant was “gimme your shoes.”

Exactly. And this wisdom can be applied in every country in the world.

Did you have any success popping those? I put some in when I started getting sick, but didnt check on it for days and it was dry and unpopped. Thought i sealed it up, but guess not. New round is going in water right now.

And you know I got you brother. Kindness begets kindness.

My friends got married in Jamaica and we absolutely loved the experience so my wife and I got married there a couple years later. I guess different areas of the island can breed different people, but we never had an issue with people asking for cash. I brought a tons of old hats and shirts and they were insanely appreciative.
Definitely going back as soon as we can.

But you’re definitely right about money never making it to where its needed. Cons are everywhere cash is.

@BigMike55 Caymen Island was beautiful, but what I loved the most was the haggling in the markets, and looks at watches that I’ll never own, even if they’re tax free lol

@Foreigner Barbados was just a nice beach and a nice meal for me. Otherwise not very memorable. Dolphin steak was delicious.

That said, Dominica was my absolute favorite place I’ve been. Gorgeous island with amazingly kind people. Definitely want to go back there again.

Sorry about hijacking this thread @Pigeonman

Cuba is very safe but good luck finding weed there!

It’s definitely nowhere near as prevalent as Jamaica, but it’s there. But I can also do without for a short period. I don’t go looking for it there. I have a buddy who goes every year and he has no problem getting it.

“You need a local, who’ll take you into what they will call “the real Cuba” and then you’re in for both culture shock and cannabis” - A friend that LOVES going to Cuba.

Wished I’d of knew that when we were there it was a weed free 2 weeks.

Yeah it’s apparently still scetchy as fuck but if you KNOW someone you’re generally safe. This friend also dresses local and is a crusty fucker so he’s got that going for him as well in the “If you’re looking for trouble Y’ALL FOUND IT HERE.” category. :+1:
