FBSC Shashamane Reproduction Run

5 keeper females and one male. One of the females I kept hermed before I could catch it but I was able to remove those few sacks and they never came back after. Unfortunately, not enough smokable plant matter left over after extracting seeds.
Mike (the breeder) just hit me up asking for videos of my grow though, good time for me to ask some questions about the plants he got these seeds from

I would have a sign up for extra seeds once the Freaker’s have gotten theirs. Tough to find people to grow hermie prone satties but i bet you put a big dent in their % rates. Maybe 10 or 20% will herm next round. By f3 they should be rare…Hopefully.
I’m real interested in this one but have my hands full atm. Surely someone will help out. I have a pack to grow someday so i hope to add to the hermie free genepool.

@blendmedmedman It is if you are willing to pay for it😁 We will find out soon enough. They were expensive, that’s for sure. $18/ seed. I contemplate that sometimes. I made 2,900 double panama red seeds and 3,000 oaxaca seeds.( many others too) There are maybe a thousand left total. So 4,900 seeds of just these two were given away by me since Last May or June. $88,000 worth at those prices. Crazy. Too much money for the effort involved. More by a lot than i make swinging a hammer 2000 hours a year. Don’t seem right to me. Ok to make a living, not a killing.

yeah i understand that, if i grab them ill run them for seed and pass them out anyways, you know me im a big lambs bread fan and i think about the long time weed but do you think they are prone to herm?

I might have found a way to see which seeds are hermies. Two of the plants I’ve shucked so far (the only two plucked, still have three more) have a discrepancy in seed size. They’re either medium sized or small almost like ABC seeds, I’m thinking if I see that in the rest of the plants then maybe I’m seeing two sets of seeds from different parents. Can’t remember the last time I used one male and saw two distinct seed variations from one mother, right?

Obviously, I’d have to test that theory out first though.

We’re in the same predicament then

I still haven’t gotten around to asking him yet but will this week, let me know if you have any specific questions you want me to ask him

Could be wilder plants( small seed, perhaps more likely to herm) mixed in with worked plants( big seed)Tough to cull all wild genetics when growing fields.
Or Could be different parents but there should be more than 2 of them( multiple pollen donors to each female) Most likely just different phenos with different looking seeds representing whatever came together to make Shashamane.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Don’t want to break your bubble but I found the same on my Cherry Festival. Two major different sizes and only the CF dads doing there thing.

You had multiple males or just one?

Forgot this possibility… seeds formed early are usually bigger than seeds formed late…

What if they’re both dark brown and tiger striped? I’ll take some pics after work to show What I mean

Two Dads with two Moms. I used the pollen on two more Cherry Festival Moms, dropped later.

Ahh ok. Well, I had one dad and one of my females dropped two balls that released pollen so my thought was if I’m seeing two distinct/consistent sizes of seeds from each plant, maybe one is from the herm and the other is from the male. Just a guess/hope!

I haven’t figured out why the two types of seed just yet. All theories at this time, but for sure seeds made later will have less time to form and less nutrients to help it along. @YoBigdaddy had 2 drastically different looking seed types from an Indian strain. Most likely hybridized at some point and now the 2 types of seed are the different phenos. I’ve never seen different looking seeds in landraces i am positive are pure…
