Used dirt is worth more to me than brand-new. The dead roots I love.
I was noticing more wood in the last bag of ocean forest I used. I can deal with a little bit every now and then
but i would hate to have to switch.
My 1st grow was 10 years ago. I used ffof back then and because of that… every time I open a bag and smell it, it brings me back to staring wide-eyed at a closet full of spiral cfls dangling from extension cords over a few small bag seed ladies
Not totally on point but I enjoyed the section on air filled porosity testing
It seems to say a little woodchips is ok.
That’s facts right there, had a buddy I hooked up with seeds the other day ask “hey man can I grab a couple gallons of your soil to start these in?” I just laughed and told him sorry bud, I’ve already got 5 or 6 runs on it and ain’t gonna let any go. Had to explain to him how my soil gets better with every run and been working my soil health for a year and a half and not something easily given away
Once they hiked the price to 25 bucks on a 1.5 cu ft (9.6 gallons) I was out and done with em, building a soil for 20% the cost and not looking back
19.99 at Ace hardware… at least in my area
That used to be our price, jumped up the 5 bucks this year
Our ace don’t sell it
For landraces only, I like fox farm at 50% strength, mixed with soil, perlite, compost and castings. I could definitely do without the bark, and absolutely you have to add perlite. Also agree that it is too strong for seedlings and too weak to finish regular plants…running out of steam right when flowering starts. It is a good base to use if you are going to make your own super soil, but if you are going that route it is much cheaper to start from scratch with pro mix bx.
I always start seedlings if ffof… they never seem to have an issue with it. And I do final repot either right before flipping to 12/12 or a week or 2 after so it lasts longer
I like to use ocean forest up to a 3 gallon container , I plant clones right in it with no issues then for bigger potted plants and raised beds a mix of the following items works better and is much cheaper 1/3 the cost of fox farms per cubic foot and much better IMO. One of each mixed together. I use this to mix 50/50 with last years soil, if mixing for new beds I would recommend cutting the cow poo in half.
WOW must be a spring time reload of supplies going on. I got mine yesterday, all I need for a year or so.
