NOOOOOOOOO!!! Not Happy Frog too!!!
Fuck. Looks like I’m just gonna do the make my own as I’m not willing to let myself get upset over a bag of soil.

I always add perlite too. About 20-25%. Those sticks and pebbles. I usually just kickout the bigger stuff and let the smaller stuff rot. I have not bought any new in a while. Been using used soil for several runs. But if they have started throwing logs and boulders in there, I guess I will need to find something new. Haha.
My last bag of FFOF had enough “lumber” to build a barn. Scratching my head and watching these soil recipes that keep popping up. Maybe time to try something new?
Count your blessings with lumber prices being what they are

I figure to buy some Happy Frog soon to start some outdoor autos. Too lazy to build soil for this one small planting. Will see how it goes.
Just a sign of a bunch of peat moss in the mix, peat is cheap, yet they are getting top dollar out of their soil when that’s the first main ingredient, sure got my wheels turning in my head to just build my own and use coir instead
Yup. Completely agree. I use peat but they shouldn’t be able to market it as soil. I guess that why they call them mixes.
I like Coast of Maine which is a bit more and for me takes some effort to source. I also buy the generic line from Coast of Maine Master Nursery Our Roots – Coast of Maine Organic Products
but still punched it up a bit with EWC and feed teas etc. I just transitioned to Jacks for RO and used no teas or anything last grow and Im in mid veg of current grow. I still have couple bags of COM Bar Harbor Im mixing in. I mixed the Bumper Crop potting soil with the Soil builder 2 CF of Potting soil to 1 CF Soil Builder and if I can source the Master Nursery stuff easily will stick with it and its not that expensive. I think people mentioned using just plain walmart level promix with Jack’s formulas. I have had great results so far and Jack’s does not kill off microbes etc from all the information I can find. Im continuing with just the Jack’s and whatever base soiless mix. I also am a once and done user but I am a small grower and only run 4 five gallon bags at a time and use the mix for starting cuts and moms etc.
AS YOU SAY THIS… I’ve mixed coir with my BX and have had superb results…
Mayhap this next mix will be: 1/3 Promix BX, 1/3 coir, 1/6 Worm castings, 1/6 Perlite.
I second the Master Nursery products, bumper crop soil builder has been a mainstay in my veggie garden for a couple years now.
I use FFOF and FFHF at a 50/50mix with a cup full of dolomite lime as it keeps the runoff ph level up to around 6.4-6.7. I use it from seedling to harvest with little to no problems.
FFOF and FFHF only costs $12 a bag ea. Here in the PNW.
How big are these bags?
2 cu. ft for FFHF and 1.5 cu. ft for FFOF.
I get them from GreenCoast Hydroponics.
Oh that’s less expensive than I’d imagined. A 3.8cf bale of pro mix is $40. That’s Canadian though
Been using FFOF soil for decades. Randomly tried the basic Pro-Mix found at Wally’sWorld. Couldn’t tell the difference between the 2 when growing. Wish I would have tried it sooner, save me some cash. I don’t grow organic BTW.
I find it odd people are finding such large material in the fox farms soil. I have used happy frog and ocean forest extensively for the last 10+ years and have never pulled anything like that out. I have a bag of both right now and it’s the same quality it has always been. Makes me wonder if different places get the bags filled in different locations like a franchise. Just a theory but it seems odd the extreme difference in quality. I love coast of main but it’s hard to get in my area now and it makes me sad.
I use promix also and light warrior but so far the best germination mix I’ve come up with is peat moss mixed with miracle grow organic raised bed soil at a 50/50 ratio. There both realy cheap at my local hardware store and I get better germination then with anything else.
I use this mix on veggies and cannabis with great success , light warrior for fresh rooted clones , promix to lighten up the outdoor mix on occasion.
I’ve never had anything like that in a bag either, even the bags that have been subpar.
FFoF & HF are around 20-25 a bag in T.dot @Foreigner
The wood chips are terrible. I’ve had a couple tree limbs and the starter mix. I’ll get a big storage container. Put a bag of dirt in there fill it up with water. Then you can take a strainer pull those wood chips right out of there. But it also pulls out other things. You’ll get rid of those stems. I’m going Cocoa after this. I’m mixing Coco or what soul I have. There’s no way I can afford to replace all my dirt.
