My first attempt growing autos and a little fast forward. Project began January 1st.
Strains:
Gorilla Glue, Glue Goo, and Ice Cream Cake all are autos, 2 each.
Set up:
AC infinity 4x4 tent.
AC infinity cloudline fan, with 69 controler.
Bestva led lights (2 totaling 300/3000 watts) connected with a UIS plug to the controler.
Passive air intake with supplemental heat.
Medium: Homemade mix:
20% used but heavily flushed and sanitized (boiling water flush)ffhf soil, with 30% perlite already.
20% well composted manure
20% coco coir -hydrated with bush doctor cal mag at 1/2 strength
10% worm castings w/ kelp and rock dust
30% perlite
Amended with Dolomite lime, Dr earth pure gold 2-2-2, and Dr Earth 4-6-3 each at 1/3 strength. Epsom salts at 1/2 the rate of the lime. Also added a couple cups of activated charcoal to the mix and ff microbe brew at full strength.
Watered until just moist and let it “cook” for about a month.
using rain water for this grow unless or until I run out.
January 1st soaking 24 hours then paper towel method.
The GG4 were quick to show tails 2 days, with Glue Goo 3 days later, and the ice cream cake being the laggards at nearly a week before even cracking.
All went unto small 9 oz cups 2/3 full with unammended mix including some dynamyco placed in a humidome with seedling mat. There they stayed for about 7-10 days or so until I could see full roots but not totally bound.
From there into 3 gallon fabric pots. The GG4 were clearly more vigorous than the others, didn’t even think the ICC would make it, but haven’t given up. This was January 19th.
Fast forward to today. Pots had been placed on elevators in saucers with wicks. These hold about a gallon of water. Looking a top watering once every 5 days or so to push ammendments down, with straight water in the trays until they demand something more.
Been able to keep the temps relatively stable 72 to 82 degrees, humidity between 65 and 75, VPD between 85 and 95. Seem to be grooving for the most part. Back to front GG4, Glue Goo, then ICC.
A few individual pics. I did not top, fim, or lst these, not even picked a leaf, only tucked some to let the new tops get light Want to just let them go and see what they do although i will clear big fans for light penetration when its time. I think I’ve got a good mix for these so far
GG4 #1, showing preflowers. Very impressed with this one so far.
Icecream cake 1 & 2. No preflowers yet. Much slower out of the gate than the others, especially #2. Hopefully they’ll still produce a bit of stash in a couple months.
I’ve been pretty busy the last 3 or 4 days with family in town for my wifes 50th and checked in on the ladies this evening. Noted that the GG4 and Glue Goos appear to be beginning transition to flower.
I’ve given these ladies a healthy dose of LITFA the first month. Literally nothing beyond the original transplant and watering. I originally intended to just let them do their thing but changed my plan and did a little LST today. I have not yet pulled a leaf though, just tucked and exposed more of the side branches. A few large fans may go over the next week or so.
I like the velcro rolls when using the fabric pots. Cheap, versatile, and doesn’t cause damage. A couple ways I use it here. I also use it to hold branches to garden posts or bamboo when fat buds need support.
A week later and the GG4 and Glue Goo have been in stretch mode and beginning to develop. Ice Cream Cake #1 is catching up and #2 stalled a bit still, no stretch really or pistils but looking healthy.
Defoliated a few of the large fans from the middle. A little clean up in the tent and rearrangement. They were pretty thirsty in these pics.
Update at 7 1/2 weeks from seed. Flower started about or 3 1/2 weeks ago. Top dressed with Roots Organic terp tea bloom and the GG4 and larger Icecream Cake didnt like it so much. Also a + ph fluctuation. Getting nothing but water for a bit. Glue Goo and the stunted ICC seem to have taken it in stride for the most part.
Prepping for a different run and had to pause for a moment and take a few young bud pics. Not a lot of smell just yet beyond stem rubs or turning the pots. Love this stage, starting to frost a little and colors coming out.
Looks like I screwed these up pretty good. Made a change a couple weeks ago and top dressed with some flowering amendments, had to use some distilled water for a couple days between rains. Really threw off the ph and burnt up the plants. Add to that I should have moved the lights up. Flushed really good, runoff went from 1150 or so down to an average of 500. Let them dry a bit from the soak. Lessons learned…
Really going yellow with a lot of burn, especially the Gorilla Glue. The Glue Goo held up a lot better but still have some fading/yellowing. The short ICC is hangin in there. The buds on both the Glue strains are definitely frosted and really starting to get stinky, very sweet smelling.
First time with autos, not totally sure how far they are since the growth was so much faster and flower has been different than photos along with my goof. Would like to give a bit more P & K but these things are so damn sensitive…
Wow. Dropped the ball updating this journal. Definitely had some ups and downs with autos my first go. All three varieties seem more sensitive to the addition of any nutes than photos, particularly the ICC. Had some wacky ph fluctuations. But im pretty much to the end of this one.
I’ve let them go to almost 100 days. Time to take em down. Just getting a few amber trics, these are indica, or at least mostly, varieties and im going for the more relaxed setative feel.
Gorrila Glue and Glue Goo were first to go a couple days ago. Stripped while still potted, 24 hour dark then chop.
Let the ICC go a couple more days. About to do the same. The ladies are outside at the moment. Trying to get things sorted out with the next project(s).
Pushed the light a bit too much the last couple weeks and either too heavy or too little feed, leaning toward heavy. Ended up getting a some crispy tips.
I like the fabric pots and elevators a but not the wicks so much. Always seemed to stay too wet at the bottom, at least to me. Perhaps it would be different in coco, but not for this mix or me.
As far as the plants the smell of the Gorilla Glue is what describe as earthy, coffee, and fuel with a bit of sweetness. The Glue Goo is similar but more sweet and pungent, less fuel. For both the buds are much more dense and larger than the ICC. They are just covered in sticky trics. I am disappointed in the ICC in bud development, smell, and resin production
Its not very smelly at all, but with agressive stem rubs there is a sweet candied sort of fresh smell, maybe a hint of pine. They’ve also been the most finicky plants. Have to sort through pics to get the close ups.
After drying and a week + in jars the terps have changed a bit in a good way and after smoke tests my fam and I have a clear favorite. Gorilla Glue is a stand out. Smooth with a little gas and potent, tight nugs. Glue Goo isnt too far off in terms of flavor, a bit more earthy and much stickier and resinous, looser buds. Not quite as an immediate high or as intense but solid. The Icecream Cake smell started to come through. Getting the creamy sweet notes, smaller, looser buds, not as resinous, taste leaves a lot to be desired, and not potent.
The Icecream Cake my #5 hermied on me and i didnt notice although the hairs did turn before the others i should have realized something was up. 2 branches were pretty loaded with mature seeds and looks like it knocked up 1 of the gorilla glue and 1 glue goo that were adjacent in the tent. Guessing just a couple pollen sacs on one or two branches. Just a few seeds in each of the GGs so far on inspection but time will tell. The other two were unaffected that i can tell. Dont know if stress related or genetic.
Glue Goo 4.5 oz
Gorilla Glue 3.25 oz
Icecream Cake 2.125 oz
2 oz mixed larf & sugar leaf trim
After my first shot at these i have a mixed opinion of autos. I love not having to be so overly cautious about the light, they were quick, and still potent. I dont like the seemingly oversensitivity to feedings but mostly not having vege time to bend and shape these to the structure i wanted although ive seen others here that can and do. Will take time practice and more learning.
Pics: L to R Gorilla Glue, Glue Goo, Icecream Cake. Next auto go, Monster Banner. These a going outside to make room for some photo testers i have going.
