Thats insane! #rootporn
Ive got a little dwc tote that’s been keeping my moms alive and I haven’t touched it in the last 6 months other than trimming the plants back maybe twice. Low temps/low light they are staying alive with very little maintenance. Hydro isn’t always as hard as people make it out to be lol
Wonderfully done,I wonder if with higher temps I couldn’t run a kratky,It has been in my mind for a Little bit past year.Well done, keep at It and you could have a GREAT harvest
Hi, i would suggest looking into Maxi Bloom with silica and calmag, if your are going to continue with kratky or dwc. I use it from seedling to harvest.
You should also try to change and clean the bucket atleast once every two weeks, but preferably once every week. You can see that your roots have gone from white to yellow and that’s a early sign of oxidation or trouble with the water.
Also I want to point out that you seem to have blurple lights which is doing it hardmode since, green light penetrate deeper into the leafs and will increase growth and overall health. Also ultra violet are beneficial to maintain health and far red are penetrating the leafs and driving some photosynthesis in shaded leafs, a la ePAR theory.
Hope this might be some tips that will guide you towards many super frosty lady’s

gotta be super careful with silica stuff in DWC: order of operations, mixing, monitoring is taken to a much higher level of sensitivity. You can get stronger plants, but also takes hydro off “easy mode” in my opinion. only time i’ve ever had to take things seriously or had major junk in my buckets. weird reaction clogged my airstone, introduced rot, etc.
super powerful stuff that can be a major benefit, but not something I suggest for beginners.
Plants need silica to function. So it’s a requirement to get the good stuff. If you clean every two to every week you will have no problems. What you are discribing sound like you never clean you buckets and you got a sediment buildup.

I do not currently have a pic. Will try to get one tonight, but now I am having an unexpected problem. My rigged up peat puck is splitting, because the skewers I used to secure it are getting pushed apart by the stem.
I wasn’t expecting the stem to get this thick, it is huge for such a short plant!
Maybe zip ties around the peat puck can solve this problem?

I wound up drilling four holes in the lid around the plant and pushing the green twist tie like plant wire through the roots under neath to hold it in. Also having other problems, but that will be a separate post.
So. If you have been following my grow, it looked good but I got some nitrogen tox. I flushed and let them sit with plain water for a bit. But I had a planned weekend trip, then I got sick (food borne) then a 3 day unplanned trip, and I neglected the plant. It sat in the same water too long.
On april 13th it looked like this.
After this, I decided that all 3 (to soil acupulco golds, and this girl) should just get flowered and out of the way, so I flushed, switched nutes and switched the lights.
This girl is recovering well, but my tent is short and I think she is going to stretch to the lights and burn. Once I fixed my issue with the plant being ‘loose’ in the bucket, i tied the main branchs down some to the main stem. It is a bit aggressive with the training, but I haven’t broken a branch yet, and it bought me another 5-10 inches so far, and if I can train more, maybe I can keep her away from the lights.
This is what she looks like as of 4-29:
Looking great! I hope you do another DWC grow. There aren’t a ton of DWC growers, but there are a few. Id love to trade notes!
This was an experiment done on the cheap. I grabbed a bucket and a bean and said I’m gonna try kratky. I plan on getting a pump and airstone and better containers soon to try again.
I think your container is just fine. I have 2 kitty litter and 4 5gal buckets. You should spend the $2 on a net cup, I think it will be much less fuss for you.
I’ve found the air pump is the keystone. You can never have too much air.
I’d also love to talk about your nutes. What did you use? You mentioned the name but I’m unfamiliar.
Someone suggested maxibloom and I second it. It’s 5-15-14
These are the nutes I am using:
