Found White Spot while Trimming

Good morning, all. I just pulled my harvest to trim, and I’ve only processed about an ounce so far. I just pulled one of the bigger colas and found a white spot while trimming:

Please advise! I’ve got hours of trimming ahead of me, and I’m pretty rattled over this.

I’d start cracking buds and colas open and looking for more mold. I for sure would chuck atleast that area and the area around it.

And change your gloves!:wink::grin:

if you see mold outside, there is mold already inside too, days bevor you see the outside mold

yeah that would be mold.

Do NOT smoke that. (at least the infected area.)

Make sure you have better air flow and lower humidity next time.

Oh, also look out for any greyish or discoloured hairs, that’s a good sign an area might be moldly or about to be moldy (in which case I still would not smoke it).

It’s also hard to tell from your pic but it looks like the sugar leaves withered and receded into the bud which is a vector.

Yeah, I would bin it and check carefully for more. Mold is such a pain for growers.

Another pic:

I’ve found these spots in a few of the larger colas, but nothing visible on smaller buds. Would you all say that this harvest needs to be tossed?

Yes those colas are fucked.

You might salvage some popcorn. Lightly pull the buds away from the stem just so you can get a look inside. If it looks good you’re probably good.

The ones you posted are dead though.

Yeah, the big colas are normally the issue. You may be able to salvage some but honestly, if they were in the same tent, the spores will be all over. I don’t mess with mold, not worth the health risks IMO.

no,that don´t look good :worried:

Not looking good. Outdoor grow or indoor?

Indoor. If you check my post history, you’ll find the details. This was a tough grow for me (my 2nd), but I learned a lot. These seeds were popped 6 months ago. Flowered over 80 days. They were pretty big plants, for me. I guess I should have broken up the bigger colas before drying.

Can any of this be safely harvested and used, or would you recommend throwing it all away? I only have a handful of huge colas. If they’ve all go to go, I understand.

Photo below is the day I hung them to dry, just so you may see the total yield I was hoping to trim today.

The drying didn’t cause the rot. The spores and everything were already there and you probably had mold on the inside while still growing. Personally I’d probably chuck the big colas that I can see mold on, then carefully go through the rest of the colas and buds to see what’s going on and maybe use a loop.

For safety’s sake I trashed an entire plant when I found spots of mold like that in a few colas. Was a bummer too because I was really looking forward to smoking those flowers, but I’m not taking chances with mold.

I just went through the rest of my branches, and those were the only really big colas, and the only with a visible mold spot. I wonder if I can make safely vape or make edibles with the rest.

Break the nugs apart and have a look or toss it. I don’t think there’s really an in between.

Edibles would be the safest although you’re still ingesting mold, just not inhaling it. Most molds have no ill effect when eaten, most NOT all, I might still be leery though. If you don’t have to use it, don’t. Just grow some more with a lower humidity as suggested. The hang looked good!
