What exactly are we looking for/at in that pic?

I have never had bud rot - that I know of - so I guess that makes me a newbie. I dont see anything obviously wrong…

Exactly! If I had known how to do this last month I could have saved a beautiful plant.

Upper right of above

Close up. Turned browning leaf. Bud rot was just above it.

I’ve noticed the white leaf tips but I think that’s residual from a long ago spinosad powder spray.

I spotted the turned, browning leaf above and sure enough, it was right below a bud rot start. Nipped it in the bud as they say.

Sorry, I must need more coffee. All I see in the upper right is blurry background?

Or, are you talking about the white spots on the leaves in the background? If so, how do those spots indicate bud rot?

Easy one.

The new pic is from the upper right. Browning turned leaf in center.
Go get coffee, come back and play.

I’m not very good at this lol. Usually on my outdoor plants I can see it from 20 ft away. I guess the purple makes it harder.

I was thinking middle/lower left quadrant with the leaves that were beginning to yellow on the first photo. I guess not.

You must be a superhuman botrytis detector. :nose: Definitely better to catch it early.

When I notice it, it is usually at a much more obvious stage.

I am motivated to learn. I have few enough outdoor plants (2) left that I can look at each bud from multiple angles. And I got bit pretty hard on my CGxPR.

The rot has killed a leaf at the back of the bud and in this case has curled upwards… classic sign with the dried out still green leaf.

10 points to @Pedro_Bann!

Odd looking leaf down there.

I stopped pulling the odd leaves because they can lead home to rotten spots. Once they are out who knows where they came from.

I’ve been thinking of healthy fan leaves as mold inspection handles. Follow the bad stem back

It’s funny, I had a friend over today to help with trimming and salvaging what was left of my plants.

I started by showing her how to spot rot, showed her a big patch of it and said “look this is rot” and she just couldn’t see it, even though it was really bad.

Needless to say by the end of the day she knew what she was looking for and was even spotting stuff I missed.

Another first time growerI had told back in September to watch out for rot told me they didnt know what to look for, and I said “You will.” That same person came to me last week and said “I know what rot looks like now!” Haha

What humidity are you guys running at when you encounter rot?

I assume above 45%?

Oregon outdoor Automn.

Way, way, way higher here.

Its 85% outside right now, gets as high as 95%.

And cold, frost causes decay which kicks rot into overdrive.
