I’ll put this out here as I consider it a strain that would qualify for preservation and proliferation if it pans out as we all know this is considered a Unicorn and the foundation of many modern hybrids.
I have been offered a cut, unsolicited by a newer member and self described group of OLD Hippies. This cut is said to be from a reclusive grower in the hills of Humbolt County. Said to never have been lost since the original was gifted. I had discussed a trade and was told none was necessary as they had watched my posts and seen that I was a sharer and not a hoarder and respected the non monitory value of saving and propagating strains
What was told to me is that it’s Sams Humbolt cut of SK1 that has had no outside influence since the late 70’s. Obviously I take any claim like this with a grain of salt fertilizer. But what the hell, I’m game for a “Skunk Hunt 2021”, I have quite a few contenders including a EC UK ,Ancestral Skunk , Green Goblin and SK95’.
As no one has asked for money and I had to almost beg to Get an addy to send some love back in seed form only.
Shit man fbsc or not an uninfluenced sk1 cut definitly should be saved in my opinion. I would love those genetics in my library personally. Keep it safe dude
You know, the guidelines say that the FBSC doesn’t make selfed seeds.
Fortunately we added an exception to that rule. S1 seeds can be made to preserve the female side of the genome. We added it in the event we got no males on a run, and couldn’t get any pollen or more seeds.
Should be on the way soon, thought they disappeared as I hadn’t heard anything in three months so I figured it was a bust. Replied today and said it’s on…I’ll post a log when I get them.
True story…after I read your musings regarding TC, I looked up Kits for TC, went to a website on the process/procedures, signed up (plantcelltechnology.com). I forwarded the message to one of my BEST friends, local Grower (Flowers/Veggies/Trees), PHD in Agronomy, 25+ years in the Commercial environment. He immediately responded that he was, in fact, performing TC work using Plant Preservation Mixture (by the same company), a Biocide to help battle hidden bacteria in the bud scales. He invited me to his Lab (local Extension) next week to “do some cultures”!!! Didn’t think I was ready to get that immersed in it, but he assured me it would be worth it. As he has 360 acres, he wants some Fem seeds. We did an “experimental grow” two years ago in one of his Greenhouses, some of the Ladies topped out at 13 - 14 FEET!!! Now that it “seems” there might be a change in the Federal Laws, I think he wants to be in on the Ground Floor. Regardless, I’ll surely give him the seeds. Just wanted to share that with you…see what you started??? SS/BW…mister
I have been saving these seeds for couple years till I could get around to doing seed runs which I am just about there now. These are what I have i don’t know if they are exactly what you all are looking for but i hope so…

My thoughts are “WoW” . Its an honor to you, and a chance to preserve what might turn out to be totally different in cannabinoid makeup then todays stuff. After the trip to Michigan in april/may I could run a skunk hunt here, when i made seeds of the nhs i got a couple phenos i have to think was the old skunk.
Ohhh yeah and some NHS from @who…lol. Sounds like a plan for after the Mexican group run. Need to grow some headstash anyways, seed runs have been cutting into bud stash.
That is kick-ass man. He’s absolutely right too, it’s amazing stuff, and the potential for cannabis is immense. It acts like a “DNA washer”. Take an old inbred strain that’s lost most of its vigor. You can do a TC run on it, and restore it back to health as it were.
IMO, if you have some time, it’d certainly be worthwhile to explore it. You can learn a lot about basic Botany from it.
Awesome project, congratulations. As an illegalized micro grower I guess I won’t be able to pull off a grow worth a contribution in the near future, but your preservation work means things will still be around once my local situation changes.
Out of curiosity, do you allow training in a preservation run or are the plants supposed to grow as “naturally” as possible?
The idea on a preservation run, IMO, is to make as many seeds as possible using all the plants obtained from the seeds we have. Training usually increases the amount of bud sites, which means more seeds, so training is perfectly acceptable.
Man, our goal is to get as many seeds as possible into the hands of people who will grow them out. People like you. Hopefully, some of them will make more seeds, and keep these strains alive.
Honestly, right now I have some real challenges with my grow, but I’m getting ready to build a new one, and then it’s on.
I’m a bit jealous too. It is nice to have a mentor!
Commenting on your “DNA Washer” comment… While cold/hot treatment followed by meristem excision can remove viruses there is always the lurking threat of somaclonal variation where the plant coming out becomes genetically modified from the original plant. So it could also be like that machine from The Fly where is merges your target into something undesirable.
