It hurt… But I was fragmenting coral and breeding clownfish. At least making the money back. Clowns would spawn once a month w/ 300 eggs, and I could sell each baby fish for $20 after 2-3 months of growout. Corals, shit, I had so many captive bred things that you just break off a piece and glue it to rubble, and in a month or two you have a new colony. One donor colony would make 30-50 new small colonies I could sell for $30 ea.

Captive bred and propagated was my market… Did rather well, but lemme tell you, clownfish babies need A LOT of attention, multiple feedings per day, gotta breed your own food (rotifers), and breed food for the rotifers (phytoplankton). change their water 1hr after feeding every time because you have to put in so much food it would pollute the water, but they are blind and literally need to bump into food at that age.

Was awesome the first time my pops saw my baby clowns. He had told me 5 years before I would fail miserably with saltwater, he tried it in the 60s and failed (well dad, we’ve come a LONG way since then). Was really cool to show him a thriving reef, corals reproducing, shrimps and fish spawning, anemones splitting, etc…

So I’m on prepaid here, current charges is what I actually used, but can see the rolling tiers, since I went with prepaid vs postpaid though I get a credit or purchased power adjustment

I do the exact came thing. Saves a ton of money and the plants just need a cycle, doesn’t matter when the cycle is set.

Tanks that represent an area are pretty cool too. Oddly enough, where I live its actually illegal to keep any “wild fish” in an aquarium, same for turtles! I still have a 210g tank (empty) I would love to do a local biotope of, some sunfish and bluegills, crawdads, maybe a few painter turtles. But nope! Not in this state!

Should I mention that I also have a 2000g 11x16 koi pond out back? Yeah, I was a fish in a former life, I am convinced of it…

I just hopped on eBay, type in “led grow” for search, clicked the auction only in refine, then click sort by ending soonest and watched the ones daily that were ending, biggest mistake ppl make on those sites is bidding when it still has a decent amount of time so if ur gonna chase something wait and drop your bid in the last 30 seconds to a minute of the most ur willing to throw at it, some u win some u don’t, got beat by 55 cents one of the times haha do that a bunch of times and u will eventually get some deals. Holiday weekends are goldmines too, everyone is out partying and not paying attention bidding, hope this advice helps someone out there for sure!

That koi pond sound amazing. My tub is caged off or the Trash Pandas will carry them away as food.
My tank only got sand and water from the lake; so there was some life in it but anything substantial got eaten by the store bought goldfish. Funny note, they are feeder fish.

I bought them and said to them “Alright, welcome to thunderdome. Eat the bugs, i’ll feed ya fish food every few days, and any you survive you’ll get to go to fish valhalla over there.(i point in the direction of the tank)”

We had a lot of tree work done here last year, summer storm knocked down like 6 trees in the yard. Thankfully none of them messed up the pond, but for the first time in 9 years with the pond, I am finally able to keep hardy water lilies (they finally get enough sun). This is a Wanvisa. The flowers come out in all sorts of combinations of pink and yellow. Some will be speckled like this one. Some will be literally half and half. Some will have each petal be half and half… The variety is REALLY cool, and the only water lily that does that…

Yeah, the pond is peaceful and amazing to watch all the wildlife around it (frogs, birds, in the pond theres some koi, shubunkins and 1 feeder thats somehow survived all these years). No turtles in the pond though, they eat the fish, not to mention, they have legs and generally move on… The pond also doesn’t help the electric bill with a 9000gph pump / waterfall :frowning:

That reminds me of the old long haired feller I saw driving around town in an old beat up pickup that had a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) bumper sticker on it.
I don’t think it fooled anyone.
