urgh im done building the 2nd setup and u are right the light is so small… need a 2nd one or a betetr one… thats what i get for ordering my friends recommendation without 2x checking
@GCC.Bud haha nah im doing IT stuff for the gov - everyone smoking here
I ran 3x 100w spider farmers in my 2x4 and it did wonderfully for me. I would recommend using a single unit, for heat reasons, but I wouldn’t use under 300w. I upgraded to a 4x4 setup last year and it has 700w, which seems like the sweet spot for me.
The tent kits seem like they mostly come with just enough light for veg. Between 30-40w/sqft is really about where you want to be for flowering.
I think Spider Farmer is having supply issues since German legalization, the price went from 90EU (sure it was with small discount), to a 150EU preorder for the SF1000D . Ive also really been liking the SF1000D, and wanted to buy another one, but the big price increase is holding me back!
I caved last November when they had a big sale on the new generation Mars lights and bought one, since Spider Farmer hadn’t updated to the new LM301H diodes yet. I’m very happy with it.
ye i noticed the big tent has heating problems with only 1 light, the spiderfarmer is perfectly controllable temp and humidity, the secret jardin gets so hot, even with the fans running on max, maybe a 2nd light isnt too clever
i dont know if sth like this would be better for the big tent size wise
but it looks like a cheap china toy compared to the spider with updated samsung LED´s
Hey, welcome to OG! I know the feeling man, my states first year of legal growing. Never should have been illegal to begin with but very exciting times. Good luck and happy belated 4/20
600w is far too big for your tent IMHO. 300-400w will do great for you. There is definitely a critical mass to light and you can do more damage than help.
I’m a light snob and I’m not afraid to admit it. I don’t use viparspectra or knock off brands. The light is your most important asset. You can not sacrifice anything if you want the best output for your effort. And that’s doubly true for me when it comes to brands. Some may use top bin diodes still, but there’s still a driver to consider, build quality, lifespan, heat dissipation, etc. At the price these suckers cost, why cut corners now just to pay 2x as much down the road? Buy a top range light now and it will last you 5 years before you have to replace it. Buy a budget one and you can expect half that life before there is a noticeable difference in output.
i ran some sf2000s and the sf 4000. awesome lights. im trying to sell mine because i upgraded to a bar light (viparspectra ks 5000) but they performed well for me. if you’re looking for lights for a smaller tent you can do a lot worse than the viparspectra xs1500 pro. 150 watts.
1 is great for 2x2 and 2 are great for 2x4
dont know about europe availability
the viperspectra has 2x the output power of my spiderfarmer sf2000 with the same W, if i can trust my lightmeter 0.o thats why the tent gets so hot spiderfam 22C / Viper 27+
seems kind of pointless to talk about “quality” with one name brand being better than the other when they are all made in the same place (china) with the same components (samsung diodes). i fail to see the differences. but if you’re dead set on paying for a name i won’t stop you.
3rd world ganja farmers still grow amazing stuff without all the gucci equipment, and ironically the gucci growers all want the 3rd world seeds. go figure.
i would say to find out if you even enjoy growing before blowing stacks of cash on top tier equipment. you may buy all this top dollar stuff and find out you don’t enjoy growing at all. then what?
do what works best for you dude. don’t get caught up with what everyone else is doing. you have a space that is completely unique to everyone else (same with budgets). what works for me in hot, dry texas isn’t going to work in the forests of germany (ja?). get through your first grow, see how you like it, and if you do, start tweaking things and improving your space for the next grow. if you need to upgrade, then upgrade. make it all work for YOU. it’s your space, and your grow. not mine or anyone else’s.
That viparspectra uses 3x the wattage and puts out the same umol. Not trying to trash talk anyone’s choice in lighting here, but there is a big difference in build and output quality and that’s why spider famer and mars cost more than viparspectra. I’m not saying VS can’t grow weed just fine. But mars and sf are just better.
If you’d like to go even more premium for an additional option, check out HLG aka horticulture lighting group.
im just confused if i hang the spider and the viper same high and put both to 100% the viper has 2x the Lux and uMol compared to the sf200 spider, same W
vipar consumes 3x the power and puts out the same umol
IMHO the best budget light for a 2x4 tent is currently Mars FC3000 with LM301H diodes. Consumes 300w and outputs 3.14 umol. I bought mine on amazon last year for $150
For my 4x4 I use this and 4x SF1000 100w LEDs, for a total of 700w.
It foes NOT have higher output than spider farmer, for the last time!!!
You are looking at “equivalent output” All that means is this 220w LED is equivalent to a 400w HPS. It does NOT mean it’s like having a 400w LED. Viparspectra is an inferior brand to spider farmer in every way, and that is why it is priced accordingly.
I also see no mention of viparspectra’s umols in any sales listing online which makes me suspicious. So I went digging, and found a real world test on rollitup. While SF2000 boasts 3.14 umols, the viparspectra puts out a measley 1.96. So that’s about all you need to see. Like I said, it’s capable but definitely nowhere near as good as others. It’s about as budget brand as grow lights can get without ditching name brand diodes.
Veg and flower are VERY different situations. The numbers don’t lie. The SF2000 uses 10% less wattage and puts out over 50% more umols. You don’t have to be a math major to see which one is more efficient.
