Growing on the cheap! Korean Natural Farming

@lambchopedd you can definitely use it for FPJ, and you can also lacto-ferment knotweed to make pickles. This study showed it to be a suitable replacement for manures in doubling cabbage weight when tested:

Yeah, bamboo is literally one of the inputs mentioned in Cho KNF, so that one is certainly recommended.

You can use what’s left of your cannabis plants as well in FPJ. Dandelions are good as well. They have a high amount of calcium as well as other vit’s and minerals’s in them.

I need a copy of this!

My plants really seem to love the FPJ that I make from cannabis leaves.

Just to chime in; another great plant that is widely considered a weed, found all over the place (at least here) and fantastic to make FPJ with is Lambsquarter. It is extremely high potassium, tons of phosphorous and even more calcium than dandelion, making it great for flowering.

Some other great ones; Stinging nettles are high in Nitrogen, Sulfur and Mangnesium, and Horsetail is extremely high in silica.

Labs is basically making kefir or yoghurt right? why not just use that diluted? or add it to milk and separate the whey once it ferments. I add water from sauerkraut which we eat a lot of here.

No labs is ferment start with milk added to extract lacto bacillus.

yeah same bacteria as in yoghurt buttermilk and sauerkraut. I mean if you adding milk so the other bacteria die why not just use those

I was was wondering about this as well! I have a lot of home made yogurt around the house

Im not trying to be smart, im asking because it takes a step out of the process and a teaspoon of yoghurt whey is all it takes to start the process

Yogurt would likely work just fine. One advantage to doing it local is you get variations of bacteria that thrive in your local environment.

Yeah people start with rice that comes from Thailand or India. i still remember my grandparents harvesting cabbage shredding it and putting it in oak barrels in the cellar with salt as only other ingredient to ferment it would last forever and the juice was supposed to cure hangover

LABS is much more than lactobacillus. Using yakut, yogurt etc you are reproducing one type of labs. The rice water is the secret to “capture” a good amount of other genus and make a much more diversal input.

Is this a failure?
Dried Licorice root + apple cider (to rehydrate)

So I’ve been lurking here for ages picking up bits and piece’s as I go but today I made a move and started my first LAB!

Can I ask, how do you all like to use your LAB in the garden? Also does anyone have any tips for making FPJ in Canada in the winter? I have no green shoots or access to growing plants?

Congratulations! I use 3/4 a tsp per gal of water in my sips daily and as a soil drench for my potted plants weekly. Hope this helps!
