Your pictures are making me excited about our trip to Lady Elliot on Saturday.
There happened to be one room available on the aniversary of my late wife passing so we will go there and scatter her ashes with the turtles and manta rays and soak in the sun and reefs for two days before heading back to the bush.
I doesn’t look very busy. I guess it’s sort of the off season for them, huh? What are the temps like? The beaches remind me of the Florida panhandle. They’re know for the sugar whit sand beaches, too. have fun!
Yesterday was amazing! We went on a boat trip. First we snorkeled the 2nd largest coral reef in the world then we went to Water Cay aka Iguana Island. Pic above. As stated, it’s inhabited by hundreds of Iguanas. They were so cool. Since they change color to blend in, we saw some that had half of their bodies the color of the sand with the other half shades of turquoise to match the ocean and sky. In between many of the islands, it turns into a giant sandbar every day. Our boat captain stopped and let us fool around in there for a short time before the water was fully gone about knee high. We saw a bunch of turtles as well as momma and baby dolphins swimming along with our boat, saying hello. Best day ever! They had a giant slide on the boat as well and the man had some fun flying off that thing. It was awesome!
Cays are awesome! Theres a Water Cay in Utila as well, uninhabited island, just palm trees, sand beaches and reef just off the shore. Its an awesome day trip (though only a few iguanas on the island, it literally is a few hundred feet long and maybe 150 feet wide). Some days its your own private island Those are the best days!
Jealous of the dolphins and turtles… Swam with so many turtles in Coz, and dolphins, they are the smartest creature out there. Had a wild one stare me in the eye from a foot away for a solid 15 seconds once while snorkeling with them, I swear you could see its soul, and know it was a sentient being. Most amazing connection ever… Not a fan of the dolphinarium experiences, the wild experiences are 100x better! And you got a BABY!!! REALLY Jealous on that!!
Sorry, it’s taking me awhile to respond. It’s such a pain on the cell phone. I go so slow, usually I do all my posts on the computer.
@Pedro_Bann that sounds amazing! I didn’t know your wife, but I would love to have my ashes scattered somewhere like that. Somehow magical. It sounds like a bittersweet weekend for you. Sending lots of hugs your way.
@SamwellBB it’s so awful, not sure I can stand it for another minute. To be honest though, I really miss my dog. We leave tomorrow for home.
@GMan I think it is just the Covid. It’s really a hassle to leave the country right now. According to my stepdad and his scuba log the water is 84 degrees. The weather here has been anywhere from 96 to 86 all week, very humid. Only the slightest drizzle the first day here. It’s been mostly perfect since we got here. A few slightly cloudy days, but nothing to make it ugly as if anything could. This place is gorgeous! Still can’t understand the people who sit by the pool all day here. Seems a waste of a perfect beach to me.
Travel home day. A lot of sitting around and waiting. We check out in 30 mins then sit around 2 hours until we even go to the airport. It will be like midnight before we get home.
Have a safe trip home and you better walk barefoot on the beach for the last time. I could use a trip to a tropical island about now. I guess I could just go out in the yard and walk barefoot though the “goat heads”…
Can’t remember the name of this tropical, but I accidentally topped it twice with the hose in spring. Moved this bad boy to part shade and it just looks spectacular now.
The buds are looking absolutely insane! After a week, I was quite shocked! The port wine cheese straight looks like it has freezer burn. Didn’t think it could get frostier. Boy was I wrong! The Kashmir has buds the size of beer cans. Even the Sour Dubb is even epic at this point. Ma Petite has completely surprised me with the size of her buds as well as the Garlic. I will try and do a video for you all tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I returned from the Islands with crazy edema. No idea what is going on but, especially the left side of my body, is swollen like no one’s business. I have cankles and my toes look like sausages. I have been absolutely exhausted and quite “off” all day. Took some antihistimines, if the swelling doesn’t go down by tomorrow, Im gonna have to hit the urgent care. Not sure if one of the tropical bug bites did me in, too much sun, a jellyfish sting or if stepping on some dried up kelp and stabbing a toe or two did it. Something is not right though. Just wasn’t feeling well enough to get any detailed pics of the girls today, but y’all have got to see this shit! The plants are epic and at least 3 harvests are quite imminent. House is still under reorg and the man is still moving in, so we have a lot going on upon returning home.
Magical vacation, but I’m glad to be home. I really missed my dog.
Welcome home sweetie! I hope you get those mystery injuries settled. Thanks for letting us have a peek into your down time.
Also glad to hear the plants weren’t messing around while you were gone. It’s always fun to see them after a few days away. Otherwise, you never really feel like they’re growing much when you stare at them, all day, every day.
Just make sure you let them know how special they are, and how happy you are to be back home with them, too.
they get HUGE!! I had (have) 3 in the garden this year, LOVE them but they got well over 8ft and branchy! I’ll snap a pic tomorrow, they look a bit sad with the recent storms, but I am DEFINITELY collecting seeds and growing again next year…
