Hash Making Revisited

That looks crazy man! Nice work! :raised_hands::fire:

well… I ran a 1/4 pound of cured then frozen shishkaberry

I used fresh snow and did most of the work in -12C

Being new at using these bags I figured I’d cheat and bypass the 73 and 90 screens and used the 220, 190, 160. 120 , 45 and 25.
I won’t do that again as it just made for too much resin in the 45 and was really difficult to wash down to collect a pile. I am definately going to have to soak that 45 in alcohol to get a lot of the material off of it. I left it in the fridge overnight on paper towels to dry a bit before I try and remove it from the screen. Live and Learn!!

Now that said… the product in that 45screen looks pretty incredible if you ask me LOL

Helicoptering the bag didn’t gather it into a ball?

not really, … I kinda made a mess of this one but I’ll get it figured out LOL
maybe the resins are just super greasy on this one. She was a sticky girl

Use ethanol, not isopropyl. The isopropyl will degrade the nylon screens.

yah interesting I’ve had some really sticky blobs that still formed into a ball. I always use green buds though, I think I’ve only done a dried weed run once or twice in the thousand batches I’ve cranked off.
I usually stick it in the freezer, and then crumble it off once it freezes solid.

yes , I only use everclear

A few tips I’ve picked up from making hash.

Get a spray bottle or syringe and wash the resin onto one pile while it’s draining.
Keep gently rinsing it down the mesh.

After it’s drained sit the bottom of the bag on a sheet of kitchen roll, that draws the water from it allowing you to pick up it up in a (fragile) lump.

Turn your bag outside in and dunk it into cold af water and that’ll clean it, fwiw my bags are like new and never seen alcohol after lbs of bud and trim.

Instead of mixing in a the bag I just put the ice, water and buds into a bucket then put the lid on and shook it.

I then filtered that through the bags which I had clipped together with carbiners.

If you do mix in the bag/bucket you can use a (same as bucket) with bottom cut out of it to protect the wall of the bag from the mixer/paddle.

When you have it in the bags with your various grades you can dunk the bags in a fresh bucket of water, sort of like dunking a Tea bag gently up and down, you can see the trichs gently rising in the water allowing the appropriate sizes to separate better plus get a dunk in clean water

When I’m done I rinse cold water through the reverse side of the bag to rinse away any remaining pieces of resin.

If I think of anything more I’ll share it.

OMG my friken wrist is killing from grating frozen bubble by mashing it with a frozen spoon into a frozen metal colander. :sob:

Anyone out here have an automated suggestion for grating bubble into sand for air drying?

Traditionally, people use a cheese grater.

If you want to use a colander, don’t freeze the hash first. I collect the hash from the bag and stick it on a screen with a clean washcloth under it. I stick that in the freezer with the spoon and colander in the freezer for about 5 minutes while I rinse my bags. Then push I it through, small chunks at at time. Hitting the colander with the spoon knocks off what sticks to the colander.

If you freeze it solid, then you need to use a chese grader. The name brand microplane makes zersters that work pretty well. To do that, you want to freeze it solid first.

I’ve been looking like this for when the time comes.

Hey Joeycrowy… recently saw in a video where some dude with some company(will try to find who) spoke of throwing fresh stuff the dry tent for 48 hours then freezing to supposedly help with yield and I hadn’t heard much on that prior. Idea being the slightly reduced water content helps stalks/heads separate easier. You familiar with this at all?

Shit yah, I know it’s all about changing the weight and thus your math formula that determines % yield. As the water content drops, your yield of hash per weight increases. It’s just a math trick though, not actually real. If I do that trick I’m getting 15-25% yields lol! It’s actually 3% fresh frozen.

time to try this again
That last batch of shishkaberry hash was killer…so melty… it;s all gone now LOL
just need to master manipulating the resin in the bags as I collect it. Some good tips here.
I have a few batches to run while there is fresh snow and good working temperatures.

So that shiska hash turned out good ?

For drying I use a little spatula, I go over it and let it dry at room temperature, repeat until its fine powder.

Doing like that doesn’t require freezing, going over it with the spatula stops it going rock hard and getting bits flying off when you try to crush it, it’s more sand like so any lumps can be crushed in the bag using your finger tips, clockwise progress.

I like oven bags, they’re big, strong af and heat resistant, they’re perfect for applying heat to hand press.

Freeze drying it is best though, it really preserves the terpenes. Essential for live extracts like rosin.

After you plane it do you need to dry it?

Fyi hash isn’t live extract?
