Thanks @MichiGreen! I hope to cram the cab with many more little plants next run
You have me thinking about short-veg pheno-hunt growsā¦
I havenāt tried short-veg runs beforeā¦ usually 8 weeks or so with big plants because I like to watch them grow.
and experiment with bondageā¦
F&D pump is clogged/ frozen again tonight. Iām seriously thinking about going back to sips and dirt.
I was pretty happy with the lavender cowboy mix recipe I got from @ReikoX that I used outdoor this year. What do I need to do if I want to reuse the soil? Itās still sitting outside in big pots.
Hereās what I started with in the spring
3 cu.ft. peat
2 cu.ft coco
3 cu.ft. perlite
2 cu.ft. compost (1.5 mushroom and .5 dairy cow)
14 lbs of earthworm castings.
10 cups dolomite
5 cups kelp meal
5 cups blood meal
10 cups bone meal
5 cups azomite
I needed to clear out the freezer for the holidays and @Tinytuttle inspired be to try my hand at dry ice hash. So much easier and faster than water hash!
I used a 160 bag and itās hard to know when to stop shaking but I split it up in piles and had a look under the scope
First Shake
Second Shake
Third Shake
Last shake still has a lot of thrichomes in it
I kind of grouped them together and figured Iād let them dry for a day then press or roll them
Nice shake. I will be doing another probably before xmas. Some green in the last shake but yes definitely lots of triches there. Maybe should have done another shake. That is interesting.
Wait, that one in the pics is the āstragglerā?? What a beauty!
Really nice hash too, Iām surprised thereās really very little difference between shakes 1 and 3. A few flecks of green in there, but nothing substantial at allā¦ really cool!
I ended up doing one last shake with all the material combined and will use it for topicals or something. Still plenty of good stuff in there but a lot more green/contaminants . This was mostly outdoor trim. I think if I had washed before trimming or used indoor it would all be cleaner?
No, those are the keepers and thank you! I didnāt post the straggler only because I didnāt want it to represent the strain or the breeder. It was too wet in the beginning and couldnāt hang in the F&D pool with the other kids and thats my fault, not the plants.
Totally happy with the dry ice technique. I was unsure about the cost but it was the best $7.50 Iāve ever spent. Even had a chunk leftover to play with in the end
Busy day yesterday. I also made the a tootsie roll/ chebba chews recipe I had been looking at.
https://www.originalweedrecipes.com/cheeba-chews/
I did a half batch using green dragon and it made about 26 rolls @ ~10mg each. Pretty tasty and they kicked in pretty fast! I just need to make some labels to wrap around so its obvious they are pot rolls. lol
The unknown mother 1-E from @growhard has been hanging up for a few days and I am realy looking forward to trying her out
SSDD solo cup clone contestant is still putting out some white hairs but the seeds are done and its time to move on and lower the lights and change the light and flood schedules for the sake of the next round.
So far for I have 2 Durban x Jungle Spice testers from @lefthandseeds started, a couple of @ReikoX Fam mix, a Malana Bomb auto I won from the 420 contest from @George_The_Vault, a Maui Sunshine and Sebrings Revenge from @Sebring, Orange Sunshine from @50State awsome fundraser, a Sour Blutooth from Bog, and finaly one of my Dark Poison and Red Poison f2s.
I plan to move the photos into another chamber after they get bigger. I will have space for one more auto though, Just have to spin the wheel to see what makes it.
Hydro is fun and all but after a few pump issues and reading @jetdro adventures with octopots and @MomOnTheRun sip creations I have really been wanting to go back to sips. I really have seen incredible growth and you couldnāt have an easier and bulletproof system. Its hard to find a system that works well that is small enough for my cabinet and modular so I can move plants around. Iāve had great luck with the inverted 2 liter bottle sips but there reservoir is tiny and they tip over easily, so this is what I have cobbled together. A few coats of paint and a cork and a wire for the gauge and Iāll be ready to roll.
When the photos are ready to transplant theyāll go into this in the second chamber.
I want to see more of that, looks interesting! the 6 sit over the rez, single rez for all 6??? Gonna use net pots in the bottom of each??? Those are 2 liter bottles???
All 6 sit over a single rez. No net pots, just drill or burn a few holes in the cap and plenty above the waterline for drainage and aeration and pack it with good soil. I got a bottle ready and took a pic.
Hereās an example of a regular 2 liter sip. I used to use them for starts and bonsai momās but I flowered in them and they work great except for the tiny Rez.
That is a great idea man!!! Other than being small, I see no reason it will not work well. Great idea with the holes in the bottom(top) like that!!!
You going to put it in use soon??? I want to watch them!!!
Thanks. It might be a week or two but Iāll let you know when I do. Iām going to wait till they fill out the solo cups, but I wish I had these ready I would have direct planted.
I come from Dixie cup to my Octoās. IF i place a small seedling in the Octoās straight up, they have a hard time getting to the rez. I root the cuts, in Dixie Cups for a week or so, when I see them going vertical. they go into my Octoās.
Where you gonna put your water level at?? You need a dead air space between the board and your rez, do not fill it all the way to the bottom of that or you will have rez issueās .
Iāve been pretty busy with a Christmas job. Iāll have to wait till after the holidays to setup the other light and move half of these into the dirt sips. I donāt know how you flood and drain guys keep all your little ones happy.
I flood once a day for about 1 1/2 min and it always seems like some are to dry and some are to wet. Anyway I had a little time do I thought Iād throw up an update.
Hope you all can slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of the holidays!
The way I do mine in the cabinet:
Iāve got one of these digital timers with eight on/off settings, each of which can be set on a specific day of the week as well as the time, which makes it easy.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/B004LP1FKY
I start with a fifteen minute flood every three or four days, depending on strain. Every time they seem like they can handle more, I add another flood cycle per week, and watch to see how they react.
Eventually it will be every day, then multiple times per day on some days, then multiple times per day on all days, etc.
Occasionally, but not often, Iāll have to cull one that doesnāt play nice with the others. I donāt have the time or energy to coddle individual plants, so they have to be able to deal with the same parameters as the rest of the group.
I rarely run more than two similar strains per cycle, though. Largely because itās a PITA to do so.
Thanks @Howard.Crane. Everything you said makes sense. Iāll have to dig into my program next time I run to do different days but I think it would be much better to slowly ramp them up. These last couple runs I have been hand watering in till they dry out everyday then I go to the flood once a day.
I was originally thinking this would be a cool way to run many strains in the cabinet at the same time. I am learning that is not so easy to do. Thank you for your advice and also for the Gorilla Slippers! I picked up a pack from @Sebring and am looking forward to giving those a try!
