Heady Bear's Den- "Choose Your Own Adventure" OG Style!

Those are the ones I mean, front and center.
I know it’s blurry, the led fucks with my phone camera focus

I zoomed in and saw no pistils, just thin leaves and a dog/cat hair.

Give it a fee more days, you will know for sure either way.

I saw the hair too… full disclosure, it’s one of mine

Looks like a full on male to me

Alpha and Beta @ 12 days flowering.
Beta has some interveinal chlorosis that I’m watching, but seems healthy otherwise. If anything, this is a pH issue due to the municipal water supply. It runs alkaline, but my KNF amendments are acidic.
Alpha is still a big girl, and she’s stretched to about 2x.

To collect pollen, I’m thinking I’ll cut branches from Beta in 3-5 days, place them in jars of water, and move them into the bathroom to release and collect pollen. Do you guys think that’s enough time that they’ll go ahead and open, or should I wait longer to cut the branches?

That sounds about right time wise. Consider that they won’t all open at once, so once you see the first open flower, you could wait to put them in cups of water then.

Heard. Thank you!
I don’t need much, as I’m going to just practice hand pollinating some lower branches on Alpha.
This is artificial insemination… not a full on bang sesh.

My first ever defoliation today on Alpha!
Snipped all the gigantic sun leaves from the bottom, and cleared anything blocking a budsite.
Light is penetrating to the soil surface again, and there’s lots of space for air flow.
Chopped everything up, threw it in a half gallon jar with a fistful of leaf mold from the backyard compost, et voilá! JADAM Cannabis fertilizer in a month. When Beta comes down he’ll be chopped up and get the same treatment, and I’ll start putting all cannabis plant residues into a 5 gallon bucket of water out back. Dilution is 1 cup fertilizer/2 gallons water, so once I have a batch going, it’ll last a while!

Pictures tomorrow at watering (Beta won’t be getting watered because I overdid it yesterday, but I’ll post pics)

Those are maley male male males.

I’d take the chance of stray pollen & wait as long as possible to cut branches for collection.

Live male will outperform the branches as far as making pollen … if you did want a bunch

Thank you kindly, good to have you stop by!
I appreciate the input, because, like I was saying, I’ve always chopped anything that showed balls, so I worry about calyx-like things. It’s so funny to have such a glaring gap in my experience.

May i ask what interest you had in the BAS Mix, or what perception you have of it?

Interest: I like Jeremy’s view on growing & am kind of proud that he’s succeeding :+1: Living soil is the only soil.

I’m not running it but Wuachuma is-- I sent him some as a gift.

@HeadyBearAdventures your just adding compost to your fresh clipped leaves and letting them sit for a month? Do you use this for a compost tea after. I’d like to hear more if you don’t mind or a general nudge in the right direction

@Emeraldgreen yeah, my inputs are all either KNF or JADAM recipes.
The short version is that every plant uses the nutrients it consumes in order to grow, therefore those compounds make up all the structures we observe as the plant.
Now if I create an anaerobic environment, with cannabis leaves, and a bunch of microbes that eat leaves (leaf mold), we’re gonna see fermentation, and the rapid breakdown of leaf material into a sludge of constituent plant compounds.
It’s going to absolutely reek for a while, and when it’s young (<3 months) it’s gotta be diluted quite a bit (1 cup per 2 gallons of water) or it’ll burn the hell out of anything it’s applied to, but the result is a fertilizer that is specific to the plant in using it on.
This is my first Canna JLF (JADAM liquid fertilizer), but I have a year old bucket of Dandelion JLF, and another 5 gallons of compost JLF (8-10 cups of fresh kitchen scraps like fruit and veggie peels, coffee grounds, teabags, etc in water), and my plants love this shit.

Here’s the JADAM book in PDF, or you can Google JADAM liquid fertilizer.

Okay, pictures in this update!
Alpha and Beta are doing nicely, no signs of stress following defoliation. Bottom watered today with corn sst and no other inputs. I want to see if there’s a noticeable change in the plants with just a single variable.

Charlie is almost to the 7th node, so preflowers should be forthcoming, and Delta continues to be wacky, but healthy.

And then there are the 3 MaMaHaze, Echo, Fox, Gamma, and (under the blue cup, hopefully joining us shortly) Helo!
These are the survivors out of 6 seeds planted, lost one to damping off, and one to drying out. Oh the irony.

And you know what, I’m just gonna own it: my tents stay dirty.

Timing:
Plants A & B: 14 days since flip
Plants C & D: 31 days veg
Plant E: 20 days above ground (?)
Plants F & G: 5 days above ground
Plant H: sown 2 days ago, not sprouted

You can always just clean em. :man_shrugging:

Well damn. Apparently corn SST is too hot!
Leaves are curling into claws within an hour, next watering is plain water for sure. Hoping to avoid leaf necrosis
Edit: 2 hours later, almost a full recovery of the leaves, just a shade of yellow on the veeerrrry tips. Alpha is praying now, and beta is notably greener, but something in that tea shocked the hell out of them.
