Holy's Garden (Part 2)

Aw, thanks, man. I’m good on seeds, got enough where I can just write off entire packs at a time haha (not really, I wanna grow everything in my fridge, but what other choice do I have?), but thank you. I really wasn’t dead-set on growing those Scott’s seeds, it was more just like,”I really oughta plant those…” I mean, I was interested in them for sure, but I still have like seven or eight seeds, so…

I’ll remember your offer haha. Thanks again.

100% no harm intended  I just mean I’d love at least a couple good males to choose from. I usually just get girls and a bunch of herms :joy: maybe 1 or 2 good males total per pack if I’m lucky.

Day 4 of flower - 13on/11off

Triangle Kush

Lemon Cheese Haze #11 @InTheWoods

That LCH#11 definitely has a rubbery stem rub scent that reminds me of her mom, the Franco’s Lemon Cheese #1. Not detecting any scents from the C5SS

And the Mother’s Milk F3 #3 looks like she must’ve just started hitting the res

Ah that sucks! Sounds like the same luck I’m having over here on one or two things. Wonder what the deal is  least you have a decent amount of the pack left. Did you ever get any of Vernal’s Garland beans? Those used Scott’s OG…

This sounds real nice tho!

Are they all fems? Regardless, sounds like a good idea ^^

Garden is looking great brotha!

At this rate of growth, she will take over your tent
Remind me what theC5SS scents are like again. are they more peppery/spice?

Nice! That one was looking rough for a couple days.

How do you know they are good males ?
The only thing about males that makes them good is if they dominate your cross or not
A good male is a recessive male.
A perfect male is recessive and have added traits you desire…
Just curious about your selection process

100% peppery spicy. There might be some in there buried on the back half of the scent

Well can’t know for sure until checking progeny but this is generally my check list that culls 99% of the males I find:

They look and smell just like the best female(s).
They don’t herm.
They don’t drop balls in veg.
They don’t flower when rootbound.

The vast majority of males I’ve found tend to auto flower on a schedule or when root bound, and a bunch of them herm, especially when revegged. Rarely have I found a male that looks and smells like the best girl but they’re in there…

I’ve had exactly two good males in the last 4-5 years.
The C5SensiStar F3 #1 that made f4s and the Lemon Cheese Haze.
The Starlite Daydream aka StarShine #1 male that made the ssdd f2 bx1 and some other things.

The Kryptonite male I used to make the TriForce passed the tests initially but then failed on reveg so ended up not being a good one in my book. He puts out some nice plants in progeny testing, but definitely something I want to remake at some point.

All of this makes me real skeptical when someone like Tom Hill is over here using 60 males on a single girl :see_no_evil: And that extends down to open pollinations and why I’m not big into them being such a great thing. I will buy/take some OP beans, no doubt, but unless every plant in the pack is a banger and absolutely solid, likely never gonna see me do an open pollination over here :man_shrugging:

Yeah speaking of, what’s the stretch like on her?

Edit: I can’t have more than 3 consecutive posts in my own thread? Is it because the ‘System’ made this one? rude…

Here’s the first seed run. In the wrong tent currently and still need up-potted…

C5SensiStar F4 #2 girl on the left | C5SensiStar F4 #3 male on the right.
He got a bit bigger than I planned but needed to wait on those test results to make sure they were both clean. She’s gonna stretch a bunch so fine being small for now. This is only day 3.

Really happy with this male though

Sticky sticky stems in veg and definitely the plantain/banana type smell comin off him. I see some of both parents and particular NL5 type traits in him. Got high hopes!

Thanks.

2-2.5x - i havent really measured but in also never had to worry about super cropping either.

I didn’t, but yeah, I remember commenting on his old thread how cool I thought it was that he was making stuff with RD gear, just because I never see anybody doing that haha. I miss that guy, he had a good sense of humor.

You mean feminized seeds? Come on, dude, you know me well enough to know that they’re not haha. I’ve never purchased feminized anything.

Although at the rate I’m going… haha.

Good idea. Don’t do it. I guess for things like preservation runs, yeah, maybe, but otherwise it almost seems irresponsible to not pick out the “best” plants to breed with.

One week into flower…

Triangle Bush… I mean Kush  Needed some help standing up today

Should look normal tomorrow or so ^^

Lemon Cheese Haze #11

Also starting with the yoyo’s…

And the Mother’s Milk F3 #3 girl finally has roots at the bottom of the pot

Should take off from here :muscle:

Both the TK and LCH are bushes, is that their normal growth behavior? They look like monster cropped clones that I like to run .

The TK was a mom I had grown out for clones so she was already a bit bushy to begin with. The LCH was doing good looking normal like the MaMilk, but by the time I had gotten both of them into these octopots, they both laid down the main stems and started growing all the side shoots.

I’ve pushed the TK around daily over the last week but finally seemed time to start hanging her up. I’ve thinned out 10 or so sucker branches off the LCH in the last week. Hopefully they’re not too crazy by the end of it.

I may actually try and pick up a net  Especially since these should all be coming down around the same time… Normally been refusing to use them but these so bushy I think i’ll need the support

You know that’s what sucks about males… you think you are choosing the best ones, but in reality even the awkward ones could be winners
Because the number one goal is to have a stable as mother like progeny…
Most people choose the 2nd before the 1st, as eye sight is worth a lot today,
But after you grow the babies you realize this is way off of what you have planned
I dunno, maybe I’m the only one that put such emphasis on the smoke itself and not the plant so much…

I keep thinking about a net also, but I like to be able to move my plants around so much that I would need to make individual spreaders/nets.

No doubt, that’s a fact. Can’t know for sure without testing the progeny.
That said, I like taking the gamble. If anything, for science. I’ll pick and choose what I think is right and if it turns out in the end it wasn’t, maybe i’ll go back and try again, or just take the L and move on :man_shrugging: I’d rather that than use all the males, or some other selection idea.

Yeah main goal is usually to reproduce the Mother’s smoke/high and/or add to it from the cross and the only way to do that is to smoke it. That said, I will toss mutants and plants with deleterious traits… Also can’t treat every line the same, especially with different F-gens. Not gonna look at an F1 line the same as an F2 or IBL line, but in general, IMO/IME, like breeds like. Not only physical looks, I smoke the male flowers too. No quicker way to know what he can pass along than that.

I have Florel to reverse a male but lost the males I was going to do it on, the one’s that passed progeny testing after all the other tests. I’m hoping either or both of these C5SS/LCH males will be worth keeping around long-term and doing that on. Make some Male S1s :yum: I’ve already had this C5SS F4 #3 male for 245 days, like 8 months, and this will be his first breeding. Needed all that time to test his stability. If his progeny is a bust, that’s just the way it goes :man_shrugging: I’m pretty sure though, based on everything I’ve seen and experienced, they’re all gonna be real nice :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’ve been using tomato cages. The legs slide into the Octopots sleeve. It makes it so the pot can be moved and rotated easily. I use the 6 gallon Octopots - not sure if it would be different with the 3 gallon size.

I like the adjustment on those. Amazon?
