If you had to grow one strain

I dont have a favourite but now I can’t wait to pop the Yllys that showed up in my mail yesterday. To hear someone say this is the best plant I’ve ever grown is a high endorsement :star_struck:

G13. The buzz on G13 is great. I got a batch of it from St Louis before vacationing in South Florida. This is sit in the sand stare at the ocean stoney haze super relaxing smoke. You can be social on it but it’s the type of smoke that slows ya down and makes you feel good. Awesome beer drinking weed. The buds were rock hard. If you put a bud of it between your thumb and index finger you could not smash it… That was back when I smoked through a oney and an Eighth would last about 4 days. This G13 eighth lasted 12 days! Never had smoke quite like it before. Needless to say I will be a a G13 pheno hunt soon!

Keep in mind, those are the F1 generation he’s talking about. I’m not quite confident enough to bet my left nut on it that the F2s of Rainbow Ylly are, like F2s of most other hybrids, essentially mutts unless you go through months or years of selection to get them back to something like the F1 - if the F1 was even a true F1 to begin with, rather than a cross of F2 polyhybrids. It looks like Rainbow Ylly is Rainbow Truffle x Lime 87 - which is (Zkittlewood x Gelato 33) x (Durban Chitral x Lime Pop). I’m sure I could go on several more generations before finding a true-breeding strain whose offspring would be even remotely predictable. They’re a mix of good genetics, sure, but between the simple randomness of the Punnett square, linked genes, genetic drift and even crossovers coming into play, I suspect they’re still mutts. If you want the “real” Rainbow Ylly you’d have to buy it from Tricoma, and even then I suspect there’s enough variance to argue the point. Apropos of nothing, this is how people get away with charging so much for clones… and ignorance of this situation, I suspect, is how people get away with charging so much for seeds. That said, growing F2s you’ll never get tired of smoking nothing but the same plant, so at least there’s that. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m sure you’re 100% right but that’s part of the fun these days. A wise man once said “Life is like an F2, you never know what you’re gonna get” :joy:

The f2 that I made share the same qualities as the parents. Nothing changed noticeable from the f1 plants, awesome color, fuel smells and huge buds. Idk why you would think it would produce such different offspring out of the next gen i.e. f2. The only thing that changed is my seeds havnt thrown mutants, like the f1s… btw I wasn’t talking about the f1s, only grew them for beans. I’ve been talking about the f2 the whole time. Also these were from tricoma-gold-genetics. I think its funny you call it a mutt, and also claim that it’s wildy different from the f1, it’s funny. Everytime I grow the f2 I get the same if not better than the f1. I used 2 packs or rainbow ylly f1s to make the f2s. And I’m never running out. My plan was to breed it out and bx it back to the pack I have for that bx. To lock in all desired traits.

Like I said, I don’t know much about the strain or their breeding process. As far as I know, it’s possible that the seeds you got from them had already been bred to stability… or that the phenos of the strains they crossed were genetically similar enough already to lock in certain homozygous traits in the F1 which would carry through, or any number of other explanations. I do know basic genetics, though. Generally a true F1 hybrid, when inbred to F2, will throw a wide range of phenotypes. I’m not sure what’s so funny, I’m not trying to make a joke here. Maybe I’m misunderstanding something - I have no experience as a breeder myself, just going off the basic theory of genetics.

I didn’t mean to make it out as funny like I said. I meant it sounded funny to me. I just f2ed them and there awesome. You have more knowledge and know what your talking about. Thanks for that information @Cormoran

Either way, I’m glad you’ve found a strain you like.

A strain I nurtured into existence that my buddies named the “Geezus” (Mystery parents). Smoked nothing but that for 6+ years. Sadly the person who was keeping this thing alive, may lose my prized strain… Never again will I let someone other than myself, try to keep a strain like that alive… It has been around being cloned for 10+ years. It will be a sad day indeed if it kicks the bucket for good :frowning:

I have only grown 5 variety’s so far.
With 1 taking the prize.
9lb hammer.
Strong high. Long lasting. Worked wonders for pain /medicinal .
Easy to grow - high yield big buds . PM resistant . And a beautiful aroma - citrus growing / grapish when cured

The others I’ve grown were all great also - wedding cake - bday cake - Chem 91 - sour jack.
I currently have L.A confidential - Blue monster growing - so perhaps time will prove differently.

However I would love to grow 9lb hammer from seed and try to keep a mom as last time.it was from clone

I would have said my Juanita la Lagrimosa, but I lost her RIP.

So, I guess it would be my JLo. But since they are autos, I would have to breed them and make more. At that point I would have some variety again.

Not there yet where I have found that one strain to keep me satisfied on all accounts. Kudos to those who have… the quest for gold continues!

Id grow lemon sour diesel, or lemon skunk diesel, I smoked some of that stuff for a while like 10 years ago and it was amazing…stayed high for a long time, and it smelled great, tasted great…it was amazing. The grower also called it “LSD” but it wasn’t the LSD on ilgm etc. This guy my stepdad knew kept clones of it going and we got to smoke it all the time. It was the best strain I’ve ever had in my life for sure. The guy definitely knew how to grow the best bud I’ve ever had as well. rip to those days
