Island Landrace & Heirloom Strains

I got talking to some Filipino guys and they told me there is a pretty big, but tight knit reggae scene. Reggae bars, reggae nights, etc. he said that is the best place to find good weed.

He said if you hang out and make friends, it won’t be hard at all to end up in a smoke circle behind one of those bars.

He advised against trying to score in the country any other way.

In keeping with the Island theme of this thread, if anybody is willing to do a reproduction of the Cretan variety (posted info above)I will donate a 10 pack to the cause.

Nice to see a Kibungan plant reach maturity, I didn’t get to try the ones I grew this year. The ones I grew outdoors unfortunately didn’t finish in time due to poor planning, but they were very vigorous with some of the fastest veg growth I’ve ever seen from cannabis. I had three females and one male after the rabbits took 5 of the others (I was growing them all together closely planted in a 30 gallon tote).

Two of the females were more woody/peppery/creamy with the vague tropical fruit note while one had a very strong stem rub of peach rings on top of those other aromatics. The peach ring pheno also had more of a natural tree / pole structure vs. the other bushy / branchy females and took the longest to develop flowers. The male had some purple sap / stem coloration with a stem rub smell that reminded me of ube more than anything else and did not produce much visible pollen. Not sure if that came down to cold temperatures or the genetic tendency of the plants - they are pretty greasy. I was able to produce a very small (<10) amount of seed from the earliest flowering Kibungan female and hopefully the Kibungan male. Pollination was outdoors so there is a threat of feral pollen contamination, but the two plants were in direct contact with each other. Unlikely to be the Tosh Valley male since the seeds are somewhat immature (hopefully viable though) and the pollination windows shouldn’t have overlapped. If I end up with red stems I’ll know I’m wrong and missed some pistils.

Here’s a pic from 10/31. Female plant on the left is the one that produced the seeds, harvested beginning of December when buds were still immature:

It’s my pleasure! We need to preserve these special lines!!!

more info on the line from Isaan I sent ya >

The Red Thai originally came from The Real Seed Company. The plants won’t begin flowering under two months of age. The flowering time is 25+ weeks. so a minimum of 33 weeks is needed to properly grow this one. There are two variations in taste and high i found.

Smoke report on the red thai
The high starts in the head then goes down the body, bringing a blissful slightly relaxed feeling. Euphoria builds up and gets you going with its balanced energy. smoke more and drift away into your head of thoughts, a fun happy high. its effects lasting 3-4 hrs. The taste is a really nice complex lemon/citrus/frankincense with strong spice background. There are rarer fatter leaved plants which show some red color in the stems. It formed tighter buds then the other one. The taste is at first citrusy then goes into a incense like tobacco taste that fades into an earthy chocolate. The initial high is an energy boost, your mood elevates with positive vibrations and thoughts. Then you slowly relax into bliss and may fall asleep, lasting about 3 hrs.

Original info from RSC Genetics: Pure Southeast Asian Ganja Plant Latitude: 15°N Regional Maturation: late December to early February Height: 4m or more Aroma: rich and ‘leathery’ like good tobacco, but nicer! Characteristics: long red pistils on dark calyxes, big yields, great ‘Thai’ flavour This is a big ganja strain grown in Northeast Thailand (‘Isaan’) and Lao. Buds are typically a deep reddish-brown to mauve-brown and have unusual long red pistils (‘hairs’). Smoke is particularly smooth and rich. The precise aroma is impossible to describe: something like leathery pipe tobacco, with hints of chocolate, coffee and musk. These are large plants, capable of going over 4 metres outdoors. A superior plant to the ‘Mekong’, though unfortunately only limited stock is available at present. The high is very euphoric and long-lasting. It is possible this ‘Red Thai’ line is related to a prized ’70s Lao/Isaan strain that was grown in this region and known to smokers as ‘Sa Daeng’ or ‘Red Ganja’.

Hahaha, it may be a match made in heaven for those that love the franky long time flowers

I haven’t had the pleasure of taking this one to term yet, this description was taken from Zen House Gardens and he was the one who preserved this line/the source for my seeds.

I would imagine that in their native environment(or possibly with shorter light cycle like 8/16 or 9/15?) they could finish faster. According to ZHG they take a looong time indoors (don’t recall which light cycle he used).

That is a wonderful project and your determination to take it to the full term is very awe inspiring. You have my respect.

@US3RNAM3, here’s the Cretan after a 24-hour soak and a couple days in the towel.
Got 7 of 10 to sprout tails and two or three are up so far.
The other three seeds are still in the moist towel in the plastic bag on the heat mat.
Hope they will pop and soon.
I’ll give them plenty of time.
