Dear lord I almost forgot to swing in and say good morning overs here. What’s up y’all!
I was wondering if the morning crew slept in lmao
Back in from the barn now lol had to take care of a few things.
I hope everyone is in a good ‘Friday’ mood?
You know it bud.
Mornin’ all! Friday mood huh? I hope that’s where I’m at when I actually wake up
Gotta go into work for a few hours later so not the ‘goodest’ a friday could be but last night I walked away with these
And These
And 3 reg seeds of Hawaiian Sunrise.
Not the worst job I suppose. But I start everyday in a ‘Friday’ mood. Dont we all?
Always starts there, never can tell what mood you end up in though!
I have a similar thing to deal with in the film/video/hd world. Film days the goal was GRAINLESS until HD sensors showed what the grain actually is: a living thing part of our motion picture image legacy.
So then everyone started to apply filters; but even when the filters were REALLY GOOD, they still are discernible by someone with a lot of photochemical film experience. Heck, we built a system that turned an animation stand (like what WAS used in Disney) and rigged it so it can re-capture digital video frame-accuratly so you can make a film print of a video (electronic) video image.
This meant that a feature shot on iPhones became a Super16mm film (the look of a 70’s documentary) which was then re-digitzed for wide release in the cinema as a DCP (Digital Cinema Package; like a 35mm print for 2013 onwards).
There was a French camera company (aaton) that TRIED to make a moving sensor so that this “living image” could be re-produced in a video context. The issue between “Film” and “Video” is that on film every frame is different on a microscopic level due to the analogue 'Film" of silver hailide crystals on the material; so 100 frames of the same image with have different grain structure for each image. With video there are fixed photocells which give you a “plastic” image, becasue every frame can be the same due to the fixed nature of the sensor.
Aaton tried to make the sensor spin in order to have the photosites in different places per frame. It didn’t work… either cause it just didn’t work physically OR it cost way to much to make it possible so they tanked it.
Anything goes so long as you know why and how.
I miss the look of film vs digital. I have to turn off the motion smoothing or whatever it is (the soap opera effect) because it completely ruins whatever I’m watching. It looks like actors on a set instead of an immersive show/movie.
very nice @JohnnyPotseed i see your hard work is paying off, really happy to see and read this, i bet before the trimming it prob. looked overwhelming in all though hats off to you man you did a fine job
Good Morning OG!
Another day come and gone, and I’m feeling like refried shit…
g’morning there buddy… Got half a days work done already eh?
not sure how refried shit feels, never fried shit to begin with… Not sure I wanna know either…
old saying and it means about how it sounds…
instead of just feeling like shit, it goes one step further
Humidity is not my friend
How’s your morning going my friend?
Dang. I got 24 yrs to catch up to you, and I know that feeling already…
People wonder why I love the islands. There’s moist air, and then there’s “humidity”. The moist air doesn’t hurt, and my joints feel a good 10 yrs younger after about 10 days there…
sending some good juju your way cause other than plane tix to the caribbean, not sure how to fix it cuz…
Todays gonna be an ass-dragger… Crashed early last night (9pm), been up since 2am. I know I am gonna nap later LOL. Still too dark out to see what the day holds…
lol thnx I appreciate that!
not to be too disparaging here, but I wouldn’t go outside continental US on a bet atm…
Been to, and loved/enjoyed a large portion of Islands, and especially the Caribbean. Many years ago they were just great lol I’ve heard how they’ve changed nowadays
Horror stories all, none ‘good change’
I’m talking 30+yrs ‘in country’ here lol
lol, and I wouldn’t think twice about Cozumel… 6 hospitals on the island, actually even lower numbers than when I was there last (they are in the green zone for tourism, they were using red / amber / green for capacity n stuff, when I left was still amber). I have friends in the hospitals and they can verify that the numbers on island are very low…
But my heart lies in Utila, HN, and well, there’s hardly a clinic on that island. And a big HELL NO till things are sorted. And I desperately miss that island… I really do…
On the changes, I’ve seen pics of old Cozumel, and know it rather well now. Sure, some modernization, but really, a lot of what Hurricane Wilma wiped out years ago was never rebuilt, and gives Cozumel the run-down look in areas. Utila is a different story. Loved how there were no cars on the island, transportation is bike, scooter, ATV, golf cart, or TukTuk taxis. Heck, the ONLY fire truck on the island had 4 flat tires the entire time I was there, and that was a little flat faced mitsubishi cab-over, with a big plastic water tank on the back. I have heard about them paving a road to the north side of the island (previously a hell of a fun ride thru mud puddles and potholes), and even in the 2 years I was there and back, I saw houses being built on the virgin north shore. Kinda don’t wanna see any more “upgrades” there Part of the allure there IS that its as undeveloped as it is…
So I hear ya cuz… but I’ll still return to Utila… someday… Just feel like my business there is unfinished (started beach cleanups, and 4 yrs later, my beach is a beach still!), but still feel there’s more for me to do on that island… Dunno what… just that feelin…
See? That right there is what I’m talking about lol 30+years ago there was no need of a ‘green zone’ or ‘safe area’
no, the green / red / amber was for covid… Green was operating at full capacity, yellow at 2/3, amber at 1/3, and red meant businesses were closed. Green means low covid numbers.
I never felt unsafe. probably foolishly soo in Playa del Carmen, but on Coz, or Utila? never felt unsafe. just know you are a target for petty theft and its good…
I would gladly walk to Pascha and back without a fear in Coz (I lived on 65th ave. Pascha was a strip club about 20 blocks away, at the end of 65th in “the bad part” of town.) Still wasn’t bad. Maybe being brought up around the NYC area hardened me a bit. But really, the worst thing happening there is they are robbing some guy too drunk to even know whats happening.
There is a safe zone for tourists in a lot of places now lol going outside of that is strongly advised against
But, I had my fill of anything out of the US, so… no mo o dat!
And that’s not just any Island
lol I never felt ‘unsafe’ either as I knew ‘what was what’ and was always able to mount a defense against anything shady. But in todays world, things are a lot diff
Also, lol I’m a lot older and not as capable as I once mighta been!
