Day 44. The ladies have been on a diet of filtered, oxygenated, tap water with a splash of dish soap as a surfactant. The LEDs are running at 80%; 22K Lux at 24". When planning this grow, it was my intent to not adjusting water PH, acheive more accurate environmental monitoring (using bluetooth sensors), and applying process controls. I felt not adjusting water PH would lead to issues. Nope. Now I’m a believer and only record the PH for those sweet, sweet metrics.
Trying out some LST clips I stumbled upon while running down a rabit hole chasing down gas/moisture permeability rates of medical grade silicone. Bananimal and GMO Punch reached the trellis first. So be it, they are the testers until the others catch up. So far, so good…like seeing products manufactured in the good ol’ USA.
Time to press the Rosin! Near the last of Orangina 2.0 (Legend Orange Apricot x FreeWorld Chem [Chemodo x Chemodo]). Notes of cinnamon, incense, faint sweet orange and skunk. Truely is a stimulating stone. Lovingly pressed in 120 micron bags at 190F.
Day 63. Flipped to flower. Raised the shorties to level out the canopy, trimmed and trained, and increased LEDS to 26 KLUX at 16" height. Keeping the VPD near 1.2 kPa. Topdressed each of the HF pots with another 1.5 TBSP of Down to Earth 444; 3 weeks prior topdressed with 3 TBSP each.
Having Hyperosmia (hyper sensitivity to smells) has an upside. The GMO Punch is starting to exude garlic and onion aromas on the rub. Bananimal developing an overripe banana pine tar aroma. Overall grape leaning fruit punch aroma in the grow at lights on.
Day 75. Week 3 of flower. Topdressed 2 TBSP of Dr. Earth’s Flower Girl in each of the Happy Frog pots. This is my first time using Flower Girl. Used 1/2 the recommended dose. LEDs upped to 34 KLUX. Target daytime VPD of 1.3 kPa. Purple Fritter is the runt of the litter and it is getting a couple of bricks to raise it up a little higher today. She may be small, but is already flooding the grow with green apple jolly rancher aroma.
Day 91. Week 6 of flowering. Back in week 5, Dotz started growing sacks in the lower canopy. Every morning it’s a gelding adventure. Not sure if its genetics or triggered by environmental conditions…after checking on GPS Discord, seems like several others had the same experience.
Undercannopy fading is on and dropping leaves. Grow is a bonanza of fruit aromas and funk. Topdressed Bananimal and GMO Punch with another 2 TBSP of Flower Girl each since both started showing signs of CA deficiency; more so on GMO Punch. Gave them a dose of Cal/Mag at 2.5 ml in 2 L of oxygenated tap water. Raised the lights and dropped the intensity to 25K LUX. Leaving the daytime humidity a little higher till the deficiency resolves. If not, oh well, part of the journey and joy of learning.
Day 112. Week 9 of flowering. Fade is accelerating and some colas are ready for plucking. Not much going on except for watering, louping trichomes, and picking up spent leaves. Just started pondering the next grow. Super stoked to pop Original Formula and a Afghani from Kabul. Still sorting out which others to choose from: Super Starfruit, Space Berry (picked it up years ago when Skinny Pineapple’s dispensary was selling seeds from their own breeding projects), or some of the wins and auction from OG.
Space Berry (Starfighter F2 x Sour Strawberry)
Tangent ahoy, Skiny Pineapple threw the best holiday party I ever attended; 1hr long preparty before boarding a party bus taking us to a bacchanal feast at Avery Brewing. The prerolls, hard to say without smirking, were good and plentiful.
Firstime I had a dab was on that bus. Good stuff.
Dotz is probably another 1-2 weeks out. She’s is still slowly stretching.
First morning in a while that I didn’t have and spasms and cramps. Had a little Lemon Lovestone rosin to set the mood with a lovely cup-o-tea. Got out on the mountain board. I really enjoyed getting into the flow with Krafty Kuts radio and some nature. Hit a new speed record…39.78 mph aka 64.02 kph. Can’t wait for our street to get new blacktop this week.
Wow, is that a snowboard with wheels and a motor? Ahhhh, haaa. Damn, I haven’t heard of those. I’m getting too old but I’d love to have one of those. Who builds those, or is it a home made board? I bet that thing is so rad. I’d need a full body foam and kevlar suit, I suppose.
I still have my old Nitro Fusion 172cm board ('92? like new) that was a freak on the mountain, especially in the powder. I haven’t ridden in a loooong time, but I dream about it. I want to get new bindings and some new boots and give it a go again. I’m 68 now, so I need to work out in the meantime.
I’d love to see some video of that board. Any thing on YT?
Happy gardening. I’m running three Lemon Thai ix outside and they’re already 3 weeks into flower. I also have five landrace sativa about to start flower but will have to finish inside. (2 Lambsbread, 1 Swaziland Red, and 2 Ace of Haze x Zacatecas).
Thanks @GMan. That’s ‘Fuck Yeah’, my sultry mistress of infinite carving and thrill seeking. Built her with mostly off the shelf components (from Europe, China, and USA). She’s the dangerous one, my other board is tamer; a put arround town street carver I built first.
You could buy a prebuilt board, but it’s more rewarding, cheaper, to diy it.
Definitely want to wear a full face helmet, leather, and kevlar if riding full tilt boogie. I inherited the thrill gene (skipped a generation), my father’s father built and raced boats out on the gulf coast.
Alas, no Krommm YouTube videos. There are some out there highlighting the thrills of ESK8, Heath Lewis has some good vids and I always liked Mary Hill ESK8 racing.
172, now that’s a nice sized snowboard. Does it carve like a Caddy? Wish I could grow outdoors again. What’s the Ace of Haze x Zacatecas like to grow and smoke?
Wrapped up harvest and drying a while back. Currently midway through curing. The top producers were Bananimal and GMO Punch. Grape Jelly and Dotz were the runners up. Oreoz was meh in yield, but has an earthy, faint chocolate neko wafer smell. Purple Fritter was a dissapointment in yield (she barely filled a Quart jar), but has a nice apple candyness that is starting to shine through in curing.
Hopefully there will be some rosin redemption. Onto the photos of my favorite branches.
The cellar stays arround 70 F and I keep it at 63% RH during drying.
Once the stems reach 11-12% on the moisture meter, in the jars they go. It works out to be 64% RH in the jar. For the good producers, their new home is an auto cure jar where they’ll cure with a target of 62% RH. The others going into the manual curing jars of shame. I’m loving the bluetooth sensors in the jars-makes it so simple to monitor.
I was down to 120’s and a few 37’s leftover from when I was making rosin from bubblehash. I skip the wash and press straight from the flower now. Low and slow just like my BBQ. I’ve found that 37 doesn’t produce the same body and taste as the larger micron bags. There’s magic in finding the right % of fats and waxes. Ran a small test squish on Bananimal. 4 minute warmup on the plates at 186 F with a 2 minute squish with a ramp up to 1000 PSI. Used popcorn and larf so the yield was a sad 14%. On the flipside, it was so runny. If only I had a home analyzer to test cannabinoid/terpene percentages. I looked at the myDX, but as I read the user reviews, looks like the company never got it to work and end users were left to hold a turd. Anyhow, had to scrape it from the parchment. Experimented with allowing the rosin to sit overnight in the fridge in a vacuum to help remove excess moisture and green aromas.
The first dab…Frabreeze front with an Irish Spring body and finish. Dab fades out to light toast with chemmy soap. Me likey, likely!
Time to make a Voodoo Donut run and pickup a new read at the library-need a Mango Tango fix to appease the inner fatman!
@Krommm Wow! Everything looks fantastic! I’m happy to hear you had a nice yield on the GMO Punch! It’s the only one out of this lineup I’ve run before and I thought you’d like it! Beautiful job bud! 🪶:+1:t3: 🪶🪶
Thanks @NDNCHILD. I now understand what you’re saying about GMO Punch. The garlic is starting to come out of the background sweet onion aromas in a test squish. Kept coming back to the rosin jar for dabs all weekend until it was empty. You ever thought about crossing it with your Pineapple Skunk?
What a great episode from Future Cannabis Project featuring Kevin Jodrey’s talk about the silk trade route, university gentic heritage project, Kush, landslides, culture, + more. Good stuff!
Running regular photoperiods for my fall/winter grow: Original Recipe, Afghani, Space Berry, Chocolate Oozie, and SB x PR x BV.
Started this grow after getting back from our roadtrip to watch the eclipse at Bluff, UT. The drive down through SW Colorado was fucking awesome, even in post peak colors. Mrs. agreed that we’re going earlier next year for prime leaf peeps and staying longer for more exploring, hot spring soaking and biking.
The Lineup: Blackbird Preservations’Original Recipe (Original Haze x Coca Cola / Rootbeer BC2). Really looking forward to growing this cultivar.
Afghani from Kabul: “The Afghani are first hand seeds brought from Kabul Afghanistan before the US pullout, gifted by an Afghani fellow. The terpenes have a range from lemon to cypress. The strength is mild with a pleasant buzz, but crossing this drought resistant landrace with a potent strain, will bring the potency right up in first generation crosses as well as produce unexpectedly original and brilliant results in some phenotypes resulting from the cross! These seeds will breed drought resistance, as well as hardiness in size and strength, to any cross!”-Peter w/ Daga Garden. This was a freebie included with Original Recipe.
Skinny Pineapple’sSpace Berry (Starfighter F2 x Sour Strawberry). Do you like tart strawberry jelly mixed with rocket fuel and skunk undertones?
RyKnows Selections’Chocolate Oozie (Chocolate Marshmallow [GG4 x Mint Chocolate Chip] x Boozie [Boo Berry x GSC])
Flavor Savours Genetics’SBelts x (Pablo’s Revenge x Black Velvet)
Good fortune was in the air and I finally pushed the button on buying a 6 Gal Octopot set. Of the original plants, culled down to six females and two males (Original Recipe #1 & Space Berry #2).
The harem sitting pretty in their new pots: Original Recipe #2 & #4, Space Berry #1 (whorled phyllotaxy a BOG Sour Strawberry influence?), Afghani #1, and SBelts x (Pablo’s Revenge x Black Velvet) #1 & #2. Which one’s roots will hit the reservoir first for that explosive growth? Place yer bets…
