I take buds under a microscope every few days and sample, smoke when dry.
By the time I’m done testing, the only thing left is the main kola… 2-Panama Red and 1- Black Pearl, probably get chopped tomorrow when I pull out for feeding and scope them. Starting to devour themselves.
Call me old-fashioned, but I always picked my plants when the resin glands go from clear to milky white. However, remember I live in a Northern climate, and I didn’t grow up with sativas. If I wanted that uplifting hi, I had to pick early. After 30 years of working with my strain, I can let it go later and I still get the same uplifting High. Whether you grow indoors or outdoors also makes a huge difference, as resin glands fall off the stalk a lot easier when there are overly mature. 1 heavy rainstorm outdoors can annihilate all the resin on the exterior of your buds (on the top side of them). I have left buds2go later on my plants over the years, and every single time I regret doing so. I always prefer an early pic. This year, with growing the pure sativas, I will see if the same holds true or not. I use a Jeweler’s loupe to check the resin, but I look for that time when the plant loses its Sparkle in the sunlight. That means the resin glands have gone from clear to milky
I’m making some seeds. Pollenating today. I won’t forget you. I cannot describe the smell at all. I’ve grabbed a couple of the more mature calyxes, and smash them up and smelled them, and I definitely have smelled that before in some of the local varieties. I’ll try again today, and see if I can place the smell or not. Smells good…
One of the afro Pips Malawi gold has decided to be a hermaphrodite. Started out as a clear female. Too bad.
Here you can see the first node at which male and female flowers were present. Female calyx on the left has a nanner peeking out of it. Since that time, the plant has gone almost exclusively male. Time to chop it.
The picture with the three plants are my favorite Malawi pheno. Nice red petioles on them.
Kullu at day 30 if flowering. Same as malawi. This last picture is the wild plant that popped up this spring and survived through all the snow falls we had. I’m pretty sure it’s a purple Malawi, from Ace seeds. Turns out it’s a female.
Man I need to trade you for some of those Malawi beans …nice outdoor, I’m on first ever. Panama start 6/1 as a 6”clone, Black pearl and Purple Thai started 6/15 as replacements for the ones the Fox uprooted.
These are turning out to be Star Pupils , the buds are already big as hand grenades 4 weeks in and looking like NL5 buds with darker leafs. All the little starbursts of hairs shooting through the fat slightly airy buds with dense centers. Can’t wait to taste her. Have to check trichs tomorrow if it go’s another 5-6 weeks it will be a Clump of bud may be a great fast finisher female for further exploration. Tester on the black pearl I chopped today is like Dutch Treat , very subtle for 80% Sativa, up buz but not racy even early. She seems to accept Males traits dominantly based on the all and SK1 cross that is finicky with denser less bloated buds and a more olive green.
And the Ace Panama Red are the fat stalks two are collared with 5 day dark room flush others no collar, color difference is nominal so far.
Starting a three way genetics seed run of
10- OG choc. Thai 15 year old pack F2 unopened,
10 - Hazeman Marwoh 2.5 up to 10-16 week Phenos
10 - OG’r stock
That sound like the animal your looking for?
Check breeders runs
Look at them go All the best luck with finding something nice in there !! Hopefully you’ll get a nice pink pheno keeper
Mango Thai from The Real Seed Co is like $30/pack. Kwik seeds dot com is the site if you’re in the us
I grew up hearing about chocolate Thai. I would love to see that one growing. Does it really taste like chocolate? Or smell like chocolate?
It’s supposed to, yeah. If we get too deep into believing it is going to taste like chocolate, too early, we’ll plant it in our brain. Then, no matter what it tastes like we’ll think chocolate.
It’s important to come at it objectively, and not determine what they smell like before they’re actually finished.
That can be arranged😁. I’m going to pollenate the Ace purple Malawi( if that’s what it is…I think so.) with Durban and Afropips Malawi if pollen is available when I have pistils on the P Malawi. I’d love to keep all my males awhile, but need to get rid of all the pollen asap, as there is going to be too much of it shortly. Bringing everything in and out everyday is getting to be quite the chore. Getting rid of 15 males will help alot. Afromalawi is ready for pollination. Cabeca is ready. Durban is close. Kullu is getting there…slowly. Beldia already minimally pollenated. Waiting for a dry spell to do some more.
Same boat here brother, just got the “MANCAVE” adjacent to the Jungle cleaned up. Gong to get an electric blind so I can put them back on 12/12 and I’ll be dusting. Right now I am carrying a nice Sativa leaning MTF. BM x LB x CG, Triple Durban, Bangi Haze and Dirty Margarita.
Just Chopped the Ace Panama nice bulky buds that smell a bit piney with strawberries.
Last three are the female Triple Durban 10 days in from @lefthandseeds , think you nailed the Sativa leaning side with even stretch and nice node space with only light training.
And Peter Puck is Tending for all my hoser brothers in theGreat White North…

That’s a nice combination of smells. I didn’t have any with that particular smell profile last year. Those Panama do bulk up nicely. Looking forward to a smoke report on those.
Oh man, that looks really great! Thanks for the pictures. I’m definitely going to spend some time inbreeding that. It’s looking exactly like I had hoped.
You mind if I paint some lowers back with the male?
By all means, make F2s if you like. I always tell people that whatever they get from me is fair game for whatever they want to do with it.
