Landrace Expansion & Trade

had to look him up. thanks for the reference. i’m a big science fiction fan so now I’ve got some more reading material.

yeah it was pretty gross actually. and it was all foreigners. embarrassing really. I like Thailand and the Thai people alot, just not the ‘regular’ staple of foreign thrill seekers that it draws.

I feel ya. I’m older now too and it’s just not the same later in life. With the party not being the focus anymore I do appreciate things now that I didn’t take time to stop and observe as a younger traveler. That being said, Koh Lanta is where it’s at for me. weed and mushroom tea on every chalkboard menu behind the bar, a more laidback atmosphere than other Thai hubs, amazing more Laotian leaning food, rustic accommodations, hybrid thai/muslim culture, coastal island mountains, cheap beer, etc.

The Drummers section of Neal Stephenson’s Diamond Age also evokes this scene.
I have been to some wild desert parties but nothing quite like what you describe.

Yes, Stephenson’s descriptions of emergent technologies and their influences are inspiring. I love his work almost as much as Gibson’s.

Somewhere I saw you suggest that you are planning some traveling in the not too distant future. Where are you planning to go?

Yeah, I’ll be spending a year or so in Asia collecting seeds. Once I get a better idea of when travel restrictions are going to be lifted, I’ll post the sign up thread. It’ll be just like a preservation run with a sign up, but instead of giving away seeds grown, it will be seeds collected (I guess they’re still grown, just not by me). I’d like to arrive next summer, which I think might align with travel opening back up, but that might be overly optimistic.

In Asia, I’ll be visiting, in approximate order, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Bruma, Bangladesh, India. I’ve been working on posting plans and itineraries on my website, www.freetheseeds.org. The general overviews are posted, but the detailed context, plans, and itineraries are much slower going.

After Asia, the leg will be Latin America. I’d like to spend a year there, as well.

@Eudaemon That sounds intresting! Sounds like you have passion for good old Weed. I am driven by an Experience of the good old Vietnam/SE Asian, and the old “Hippie” Stores are by no means Myths. Atleast they add up exactly with my deepest Experiences i had, im not from the 70s. So: if you find the old Gold, it would be amzing

One crutial Thing in Vietnam might be: Hmong Hilltribe, and possibly other Tribes imported Chinese Hemp. I heard from realseedcompany it is very omniopresent in those Tribes.

You may be better off actually excluding those Areas. I dont wanna talk controversial by the Way, probably this is not always the Case. Just as a reminder, Hmong only rarely grow Ganja is what i heard.
But you will shurely find out yourselve and hopefully get those hallucinogenic Weed, wich Vietnamese was 100 Percent shure!

Also i seemed to hear, making connections, gaining Trust might reveal rahter the old Gold, since the harsh laws, the heavy smokers often are very enclosed to the outside, i heard this from Sources like Reeferman, people who live there and hunters couple Times. Some insiders carry sometimes old Lines , and might outperform many new Lines in abundant villages. Cant tell if thats true, but thats what i was kind of told. And many modern 2020 Lines are like a constant not the same IMHO. So, thats where searching hidden Vilages comes in, but again that might not work in Hmong`s Hemp Culture…

Interesting, and again: Vietnamese is one of the strongest acording my Research. Im bit a surf-addicted and i may have found even the last Smokereport of an “Hippie”, that why i tell you:

Vietnamese smokereports brought some of the trippiest, livechanging stories up, that i ever heard

Vietnamese/Thai/Indonesian , Mexican/Columbia, Congo, are basically all on that Level.
Talking about: Hallucinogenic
Good Trip.

@romanoweed If I used the word myth to describe that type of weed or place, I didn’t mean it in the non-existent sense. I use the word myth from time to time and I don’t mean it in the sense of something untrue, but rather a passed down story, history or something else forgotten or relegated to a history shrouded in questions. I believe 100% in the stories told by the old GIs and people that have visited that area. I know, personally, because I’ve experienced just a taste of what they’ve described and I know it’s out there. I am a highly seasoned psychedelic user, and I’ve had two experiences with cannabis that have made me truly believe there is some cannabis out there that is far more powerful and out-there than what we currently have. That is kind of what drives me. My entire life, I’ve hated the idea of not knowing things. Mysteries especially offend and drive me crazy. I hate the idea that there might be botanical magic, real magic, and it’s just barely out of reach. I feel like anything I do here, stateside, to explore weed is a waste of time while I have this lingering doubt brewing in the back of my mind that there is a far more enchanting cannabis world elsewhere.

You’ve touched upon an issue I’ve actually been talking about with some people: the avoidance of hemp genetics. It is a very real problem. There are a ton of illicit hemp grows popping up all over southeast Asia, too. This is a very real concern of mine, identifying and avoiding hemp genetics. I am not an expert on cannabis or hemp, so I am going to try enlisting community help on that. Consider this an SoS for help on how to best identify and avoid hemp.

I am finishing up my Vietnam deep dive right now. Ironically, you mentioned ethnicity. My entire Vietnam search is going to be driven by ethnolinguistic identity. That is the driver of so many forces in Vietnam. I’ve determined it is going to be the biggest drive and predictor of cannabis cultivation, too. The key is just sorting through the ethnolinguistic soup that is the north. It’s super complex human and topographical terrain.

“the more insider thing” was possibly adressed to Westeners living there. Like “Hippies” wich were aware what they have and still kept a line Going in the Garden. Possibly you find such a “Hippie” on the Way too. Thats what i think Reeferman and the others ment. Alltho it wasnt clear to me if they ment it for Indigeen People.

Sounds all good. Super nice. Peace

That’s super interesting and I hadn’t thought of that! In that regard, you could get genetics sort of from the past, in a sense. I’ll integrate that into my search for sure, because you’re right; you might find some of the real special stuff.

I was there for a New Years Eve full moon party. They have a smaller one every month on the full moon but the New Years one every year is mayhem. Take that picture and multiply it by like 10,000. It was pretty crazy.
