I don’t think that you’re gonna find the highest THC strains in Lebanese, but they are very resinous plants, so they have a high cannabinoid content. Some things like the Syrian, which is very similar, have high amounts THCV.
There are so many things that are special about Lebanese strains, and I’ve seen many weirder cannabis expressions in some Lebanese strains than anywhere else. Some plants turn black, some finish earlier than anything I’ve ever seen (43 days), some flower under 14-15 hours of light, some grow either branched or apical within the same lines, most have unusual terpenes, some produce a sweet sap-like substance, some have thick, leathery leaves, some grow with multiple tops (see my quad top plant), some are incredibly short (12 inches) some are pretty tall, some produce rare cannabinoids and terpenes. I’ve had expressions that are very sativa-like in their effects, but finished in 7 weeks.
There’s not any one thing to describe everything I’ve seen so far. There’s really quite a lot of expressions! I’m not personally looking for the highest THC strains. I’d consider that not to be special in terms of what other strains I have available to me. Ideally, in the next couple generations, I’d like to start hunting for a mother plant and run some tests to see what the cannabinoids are like. Something higher in THCV would be fun.
I got pissed about the fungus gnats and chopped this one. This is one of the RSC phenos – probably the one I like better. It’s a shorty, but very dense with resinous bud. Lots of defoliation required just to get this picture lol.
Man, even though you maybe chopped it a bit earlier than you wanted to (damn fungus gnats, hate those dopey little shits) that right there is a thing of beauty!! Plant looks like one big, huge nug! Albeit a bit leafy, but leaves be damned!
I love your last post too. All the more reason why I need to grow me some straight Lebanese!! (As if I didn’t have enough motive already )
Can’t get enough of all the great pics you took of them too bro, seriously appreciated every plant is just stunning, feel like I just watched the Miss Lebanon pageant, but with plants
Thanks! I’m pretty happy with how this one came out, considering all the struggles I had keeping it happy. But it pulled through and bulked up really well.
There’s so many different expressions, but this one definitely wins on the bud side, except maybe for her sister quad tops. I’m trying to hold out for her a little longer. I’m hoping I get some time to do a BTi root dunk. My yellow sticky cards are just full this time. It’s gross, and it’s causing root problems now.
It was especially gratifying for me too, watching you overcome the issues you encountered and in the end the Lebanese came through clutch!
I feel your pain fam. I was battling them for a few months last year when I had to bring in some new soil. Had enough and unleashed on them like Bruce Lee Nematodes, dunks, sticky traps, diatomaceous earth and just straight killing em with my bare hands like a savage.
Sucks that they’re causing root problems too, I remember reading that they spread pythium with their feet(?) Really nasty stuff. I know the larvae killed off a dozen seedlings on me last year, I think that was the straw that broke the camels back😆 Pulling out a dying seedling to find some larvae that ate their way all the way up the tap root made me go psycho on their asses.
When I had a gnat infestation a few months ago, I went with the sticky traps… And switched to bottom watering everything instead of top feeding. 99% of the gnats were gone in a week. Not sure if you can do that or not but it’s definitely the laziest way I’ve found while also being quite effective
I have sticky traps all over my pots, and they just get completely covered. I’m running flood and drain in buckets, and they just crawl in there and chomp on roots. They don’t seem to care about BTi (microbe lift BMC, moquito dunks, etc). They get caught in the traps and more just keep coming… it’s a nightmare.
Yea, I think they were causing a pythium infection in the plant I chopped. Probably the other RSC pheno too actually. I need to pull that one out and dunk the roots again today to try and clean it off. I’d like to run it for another week, but maybe it’s not worth it.
Oh damn, that’s crazy then! I’m doing flood and drain in 1 gallon fabric pots, coco/perlite. The flood maybe goes two inches up the pot but the top of the pots never get soaked…
Before, I’d top water and could literally see them crawling out of the dirt or coco on top. When I switched to this style, the tops are dry so the gnats just… disappeared over a few days…
You’re saying they’re getting into your res? I’ve seen a few down there but I run Calcium Hypochlorite in my res to keep everything sterile so nothing ever comes from that
Wow, that sounds bad. I’m lucky, because i still bring two Mother’ s Milk inside every night to finish flowering and haven’t brought anything in thank God. I figure it’s the last strain indoors so if I do I’ll have time to clear it good after they’re done.
We’ve been having these real tiny gnats outside that are smaller than fungus gnats but larger than no-see-ums. They seem sort of pink or flesh colored. So far they’re just a nuisance when outside but nothing on plants so far. That sun radiates things I believe, ha, it’s cooking on most days.
Sort of weird this year. I haven’t seen the wasps like years past. Only one or two here and there. They normally take up residence here all summer and are great predators. Lady bugs seem to be fairly normal. I have lots of birds hanging close, too, so they nab any grasshoppers or big stuff.
I figure if we get our normal July monsoon rains, I bet it explodes in the second half of summer. It just seems too quiet lately, lol.
Hope you get them under control. Maybe you could even try using a vacuum with a brush attachment to inhale as many as you can every time you go in. When flies get bad that’s how I deal with them. I suck them up, lol…
Hey, I dropped some of Bare’s 88G13/HP crossed to your 4P Haze (95% sure), yesterday for some friends. I may keep a couple here, too. I plan on going to the hills first of next week to get clones from what I took up there. PPP, Orange Goji, Herijuana, and Malana. Some other guys are getting these new seedlings. Also dropped some SSDD that I think got hit early with the Black Lime Reserve/OG. I’ll go back and get clones of them, too, I hope. Never seen how these other peeps grow. peace
They’re not in the res. I have a flood and drain bucket system, and there’s a small gap in between the inner and outer buckets where the like to hang out. The roots come out the bottom, and they really seem to like going down there where it’s always a little wet and there’s roots to munch.
I’ve read that a half inch(?) of sand as a mulch will prevent knats from using soil. I have fungus gnats myself right now, and I keep forgetting to try that out. Knats must be a bitch for any form of Hydroponics. I can’t imagine anything that would work aside from the sticky traps. Are there any Predators you can buy that eat gnats? Or better yet their eggs?
I’ve been saying the same thing. I’m working on a 10,000 square-foot house with old wooden overhangs. 10 years ago there would have been 500 nests on this house. I don’t see one. Starting to scare me that all the bees are dying. Probably that 5G. I have a yard full of flowers and not a bee on them
Ah ok I see what you’re saying… that’s super rough then… I’m not sure what you could do there short of washing the roots thoroughly and trying to seal that gap
Guess I’ve been okay here as all my roots are contained in the fabric pots…
I don’t think there’s much I can do about the gap between the buckets. I think it’s part of the design of the system. I’m almost thinking about trying adding a fine mesh netting over the tops of the pots and tied to the stem of the plants next time. Anything to keep those vermin from getting down to the roots.
This Black/Blue Leb has gone full black and looks great. I’m really liking this one so far – it’s clean, stacking well, nice structure, color and short finishing time. It’s finishing quickly, but behind the rest, because it got a little bit later of a start. I’ll definitely keep seeds off of this one if it continues to finish out strong.
And here’s ol’ quad tops, also turning a ripe shade of black. Weird ass plant… I left this one to go a little longer, even though it’s also getting smashed by fungus gnats. I did a BTi root rinse last week, which seems to be helping cut down the numbers. I’ll probably do one more, just to help it finish out. But it’s starting to fill in orange hairs pretty quickly now, so it should be done in not more than a week.
These RSC phenos really produce some chunky buds, so that’s an appealing trait. I backcrossed these with pollen from the tall, branchy pheno of the black/blue leb. I am curious to see if there’s a good compromise that might come out.
Thanks again @lefthandseeds for another great update. Really loving those plants, as if they were my own. I hope one day soon I can grow the Lebanese, they really captivated me even more with this grow! Great work
Thanks @Oldtimerunderground, it’s been a challenge and a lot of fun so far. I’m really excited to run my custom nutrient mix end to end on the next grow. This grow has been going a lot better than the last. Strangely enough, intersex traits are also way down… so I think my suspicions were right last time. If you get an outrageously phos hungry plant like these that results in N toxicity due to poor nutrient transport, you can stress it into expressing male traits that way. I think with 321 formulas, using the high phosphorous bloom step (10-30-20) can be very important for some strains.
These RSC phenos turned out immensely better than when I grew their parents, and they still hit some serious snags early in the bloom phase, even with me supplementing in more phos. I think my scratch mix is really going to make everything go even better next round. I don’t think I’m going to see the same early bloom problems next run. A few needed a bit of a tweak at the end for more K, but I think I’m really starting to zero in on all their wants and desires.
I’ll hand out some of these Black Leb backcrosses if you want to give them a spin. Black Leb is by far the easiest to grow of any of the lines I’m experimenting with, but it’s also been bred for indoor growing by Geneseeds. It’s a fun strain.
Now if I can just get these fungus gnats under control…
Nice leaf colors in that picture. Your ppm looks like you on time. No burn at all. In soil molasses will stop your flys. It traps them. They can’t get in or out. I use the yellow sticky fly paper. Dr. Earth makes final stop. I believe it’s the name. It will run them off. I have had my run in with them before. I hate them. Fans help. They will crawl. Makes me sick. I use a shop vacuum also. They hate neem oil. Any strong smells like wintergreen oil and mint. I have use apple vinegar before. It helps. YouTube has some stuff. Sometimes they are in the soil all ready. Hot water will cook them out. peroxide your soil will kill them also. It will foam your dirt. It will do some crazy stuff. Vinegar in little containers. With holes on top. They crawl in and not out. I’ll put them in the corners of my tent. A blue light helps also. A small one. Frying flys. I love it
These Lebs are usually somewhere in the land between. I was keeping those RSC phenos at 14/10, and they just decided to go into flower on their own. However, I don’t think they would have done it at higher light cycles.
I had 2 Black Lebanon moms that I took clones from. I was holding them under 18/6 cycles. One mom didn’t flower at all, and she was easy to clone. The mom from the #2 clone (the all black one a few posts up), she started into flowering a little bit and was stubborn as a mule to clone. I could only get 1 cutting to take, probably because she didn’t have the right hormones left. Such a pain!
But to me this trait is good in some ways. The plants start budding extremely fast under flowering light cycles. I think this “semi-autoflowering” trait can really be good for adding earliness when bred to some long flowering sativas. That is one reason that I am spending a lot of time on this. I consider most Lebanese to have more sativa-like effects, and often sativa structures, but they can add flower weight and earliness if combined to pure sativas. I also really like hybridized to Afghans too, so I think it will become a very versatile tool for me to use.
