Let's see your worm bins!

Anyone else get these trippy nest things that these guys make in your worm bins? Normally it’s a complete dome, my guess is it’s to reproduce… looks like a chocolate Easter egg made from worm castings. Weird

Those tiny snails are everywhere too, I guess diversity is a good thing :man_shrugging:t4:

Is that a centipede inside the “nest”?

Yes it is, they are always busy in my bins. The intricate work that goes in to those nest is impressive.

Off topic: any of you use fabric pots for your worm bins? One of my four bins is fabric and it seems to keep the best moisture levels, I find the plastic even though I’ve drilled holes in it doesn’t breath enough especially here in the tropics so the bottom layer stays too wet and almost anaerobic. Soon I will transfer all 4 bins in to smart pots.

I use a 30 gallon smarty and when in the outdoors during summer I put it in a half pallet to keep it off the ground for that exact reason provides more circulating air as well

Looking hard. Into the grass root pots but damn their hard to come by I guess they fly off the shelf wherever stocked

I started a 15/gallon smart pot as my second bin. It’s working pretty well, but I think I need more worms in it.

I was going to make a worm bin. I don’t like to touch or even see the worm wiggling  I bought myself a Mothers day present that showed up today. I didn’t think it would come till Monday.

It said it had screens, not. I threw in shredded paper and card board.
I watch so many YouTube video’s. They contradict each other. The worms come tomorrow. What do I need to do to make this ready. Did I mention I don’t like worms. I thought this set up would be where I didn’t have to touch them but not.
I have a little bit of worm castings, compost and a big bag of pelletized gypsum. I am not sure what or how much stuff to add or the order to layer or mix. Some say water the stuff and some say not to. I have alfalfa hay and goat manure in the barn but I don’t have a way to chop the hay and not sure at what level the poop would be good. or the order to add. they did say to add oat meal I the bin is not ready. HELP please all you wormers.

Awesome lookin bin is that the mega inn? Newspaper is good for the set up and cardboard layers if indoors I’d keep manure type products out of it for potential stink issues bedding does need to be moist however the bottom is where it’s harvested from, the casting will pack and hold in place just open it up and scrape out as needed with a bucket/ bin underneath bury food in areas and monitor! It will get easier as time goes you got this @G-paS !

Good on ya G-paS!!

Yeah, right now they icky, slimy squigglers…

After you have them a while and you get used to spoiling them them with slurpees and then figuring how to capitalize their sudden population increases to process old soil etc.

Then you will realize, we (everything on the planet) have been conditioned by these wee buggers to live in a world swimming in worm poop… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :call_me_hand:

Cheers

There was someone on here awhile back that was gearing up to sell worms, but it was on a different thread I believe. @TheWormGuy -wow, I remembered the name. Do you have any worms for sale yet bud?

Another option is uncle jims worm farm. I think he is where I got my euros from originally, and I’ve heard good things since then.

Once you get your bin going, post some pics!

True now, but north America was basically worm free before europeans…

Native earthworms all but disappeared more than 10,000 years ago, when glaciers from a Pleistocene ice age wiped them out. … New earthworms began entering North America as early as the 1600s, with the first European settlers. They crossed over in root balls or the dry ballast of ships.

Get her a Dubia colony, pet stores will pay $.10 each for them and they breed like mad. Im about to start another colony myself, I figure the frass should be a good amendment too

Mine is the Urban Worm Bag Worm Composting Bin Version 2 from Uncle Jim.

This is here I got my bin and worms from. I got a discount on the worms for getting both. Made the worms much cheaper than buying thru Amozon.

That is why I read only on my phone and laptop the rest. :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed:
